Bahnsen will move into the Phils rotation as they have 4 SP out, 3 for the season in Inks, Highball Wilson and Carlos Hernandez.

7/8 Phillies make another deal, for another arm, this time reliever Sean Green (27) from Chicago, the White Sox get big time IF prospect Pedro Gonzalez and IF Mike Hall back. Green was 0-1 2 Saves 2.28 ERA in 18 games.

7/10 Cardinals dealt OF Mike D Young to the New York Giants for 28 year old reliever Jeff Reardon and 19 year old OF Sam Bradshaw. Young was hitting 242-12-37 in 70 games for St Louis and has hit .351-3-10 in 17 games since the deal. Reardon was 5-1 3.18 in 23 games with NY and has gone 1-1 7.56 in 5 games since. Bradshaw is a fringe OF prospect who can defend well on teh corners.

7/14 The Giants then sent NL SB leader Scott Podsednik to the Boston Braves while getting 28 year old RP Joe McClain and 22 year old minor league P Jeff White in return. Podsednik was hitting .309-3-35 with 17-28 SB with NY and has hit .309-1-5 since the deal, with Boston. White was a blue chip 5 star relief prospect for the Braves and McClain is being used in the middle of the Giants pen now.

Working out format and what not, but for August it'll be in two week reports, likely to go to weekly in September, as long as there are races going on. And there are races going on. Cleveland and the Yankees are moving in on Detroit in the AL and the Cubs have caught the Reds, almost, in the NL. The HR race in the NL has seen Fisk catch Horner as well.

8/9 St Louis Browns star slugger Reggie Smith, who has not taken a swing all year after his spring training injury, has been pushed back at least another 4 months in his rehab. Meaning the 1950 season is a complete wash for the 30 year old slugger expected to anchor the Browns lineup this year. St Louis is 6th in the NL in HR's and 7th in runs scored, with Ian Kinlser (315-20-92) and Smith they could have been a much tougher club, now sitting 16 back of Detroit.

One month left and the first season of this appears to have no major flaws, looks like it could be a ton of fun and a cool way to spend some time when I am not focused on getting that 1st Iron Pigs title! Cleveland is keeping pace in the AL, looking to force a race on Detroit and it's looking like the Cubs did, well, what the Cubs do, and tanked their chase as Cincy heads into the final weeks 10.5 up in the NL.

8/14 Reds offensive catalyst Jimmy Walsh will miss 2 weeks after straining his hamstring against Pittsburgh today. He's hitting ,329-34-98 to help Cincy to a whopping 10.5 game lead in the N.L. Hopes are that he's back and fine as the stretch run closes.

Cleveland has closed to within 3.5, Chicago is teasing their fans, moving to within 8, but it's still a huge long shot. Indians Pitching has been insane, and they split a 2 game series this past week with Detroit scoring a run in the bottom of the 9th and 10th after the Indians scored 1 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th to tie it up. In game 2 Cleveland scored 2 in the top of the 8th to go up 3-1, Detroit answered with 2 in the bottom on Andrew McCutchen's 19th HR off SP Curt Schilling (who went 8-10-3-3-0-7 and Johnny Franco notched his 12th Save with a perfect 9th). to tie and Cleveland got another in the 9th to win 4-3.

The great thing is that these two teams play 5 of their final 8 vs. each other, with a 3 game series in Cleveland on the 22nd to 24th, and then a 2 game series in Detroit to close out the season!

In the NL the Cubs and Red play 1 more game, tomorrow, and Chicago has taken the first 2 4-2 and 2-1. In the first game Cliff Johnson (28) and Guy Zinn (9) hit back to back HR's in the top of the 9th off SP Fausto Carmona for the win, with Bill Wise (21-9 3.02) going to distance 9-6-2-1-4-10. In game 2 Perry Werden (15-13 4.38) went 8-9-1-1-3-1 to outpitch spot starter Chris Peters (2-2) who went 8.1-4-2-0-3-4.

They don't see each other over the final 3 weeks.

Bob Horner(BRAVES) hit 50th HR on the 9th, and is 7 up on Fisk (BRO) for the title in the NL while Rich Reese (NYY) has opened a 9 HR lead on Hank Aaron (CLE) in the AL.

Both batting titles are close, Reese leads Jimmy Bannon (BOS) by .003 in the batting race and Aaron by 11 in the RBI race as he works to a possible Triple Crown. J.D. Drew (BRO) is 3 pts up on Sam Thompson (CHI) in the NL batting race and Fisk leads rookie Brian McCann (PIT, and the likely Rookie of the Year) by 3 in RBI's, Horner is 4 back.

Bill Wise (CHI) is destroying everyone in K's with 249, and he's the only guy over 200. He's leading in wins and .003 back in ERA in a search for a pitching triple crown as well.

A teammate of mine, but just briefly. He came to camp in 1989 with the Orioles when he came back from Japan, and he was about the funniest man I've ever met. Additionally, he drank more Corona's per hour than any human being should or could attempt, amazing.

One of my funniest, by a mile, stories, came from him.

Our first day of camp we had to 'distance run'. You basically run for an hour around the 4 fields at the Orioles complex. It was hard.

He showed up to camp late so had to do his run the next day while we were working out. He shows up, the night AFTER he had taken all of us young rookies out, and he drank from like 7 until we left at like 2 am.

He shows up in one of those OLD time sweat tops, from mizuno. It's like 90 out, 25449243% humidity in Sarasota.

Starts his run, about 15 minutes in he is on the back stretch, jogs past the fence, into the parking lot and gets in his car and drives away......

The next day he takes us all to lunch after workouts. Direct quote....

"Ya, I just went home, I was tired. In fact I went home and was so tired I climbed into bed at 6pm, still fully dressed in my workout gear... So tired I woke up at 2am, had to crap, crapped in bed, kicked it out, and went back to sleep."

I in all honesty was crying real tears laughing....

The Indians have surged, and in doing so have tied Detroit for the AL lead with just 2 weeks remaining in the season. Philly has climbed to within 6.5 to add spice, while in the NL the Cubs have decide to go from teasing to torture, closing to within 5.5 of 1st place Cincy with just 12 remaining in the 154 game slate. The Reds were swept oday in Brooklyn 3-1, 9-6 and have lost 5 straight and are 2-8 in their last 10. After an off day today they play @ the Giants for 2, @ Pittsburgh for 4.

Detroit has lost 3 in a row, and 5 of their last 6. They'll play at home vs the Red Sox today, then welcome the A's in for 3 before heading to Cleveland for a HUGE 3 game set.

The Indians went 5-2 this past week, sweeping the Yanks before dropping the first 2 of 3 to the Senators, winning game 3 2-1 today. They are off today, then welcome the Sox in for 2, with another off day Thursday before Detroit comes in they'll be rested with some lined up pitching. IN the seasons final week they see Detroit on Sunday, have an off day, play the White Sox for 1 before 3 days off when Detroit comes back in for the seasons final 2 games. Detroit has 2 in hand in the loss column but has to play 10 more to Cleveland's 6, will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Both batting titles are still up for grabs, with Reese (NYY) and his triple crown chase now just a pt up on Jimmy Bannon (NOS) .329 to .328. He's iced the HR title with 38, 10 up on Clevelands Tommy Agee and 11 on the Tribe's Hank Aaron. He's 6 up in the RBI race on St Louis Browns 2B Ian Kinsler.

In the NL Sam Thompon leads J.D. Drew .353 to .352, Horner (BRAVES) has the HR title locked at 53-44 over Fisk. Fisk is leading rookie Brian McCann 127-124 in RBI's with Horner in third at 123.

Bill Wise' (CHI) pitching triple crown is facing multiple threats. Cincy's John Patterson has tied him in wins with 21, and Steve Rogers (NYG) has overtaken him in ERA 3.05 to 3.09.

9/18 Phil Tomney goes 2-4 with a 1st inning single to extend his record setting hit streak to 37 games.

9/19 The Tigers give up a stunning 16 runs in the games final 4 innings to lose to the A's 19-4 (George Wood of the A's goes 4-5 2B HR and 3 RBI's while scoring 5) moving the A's to within 5.5. While Cleveland drops a 7-4 decision vs Boston at home and the teams remain tied for first place.

In the NL the Cubs win in Philly, 2-1 while the Reds score 2 in the top of the 9th on John E Briggs 2 run double, to go up 5-4, and then Closer Steve Crawford blows his 7th save in the bottom half, giving up 2 unearned runs as NewYork drops the Reds 6-5, moving the Cubs 4.5 back.

9/20 Yankees OF Count Campau goes 1-5 to start his own streak of 20 games in an 8-5 Yankee win over the White Sox.

Phil Romney drills a single in the 1st and extends his MLB record hit streak to 39 games!

In the pennant chase Indians SP Ryan Bowen spins a 3 hitter vs the Red Sox and the Indians win 9-0. Meanwhile in Detroit the Tigers enter the 9th at home in a 3-3 tie with the A's, but the A's push 3 across in the top half. Tony Fossas replaces Wayne Lemaster to start the 9th for the A's, and Andrew McCutchen singles to lead off for the Tigers, down 6-3. Gavvy Cravath draws a walk, and Biggio moves the runners up with a ground out. Roy Cullenbine doubles them both home to make it 6-5. Mark Lewis draws a walk and Tracey Jones follows with game tying double. Billy Werber is sent up to PH, and is walked intentionally, Omar Daal relieves and Gil Hatfield singles on the 1st pitch to give Detroit a 7-6 walkoff win to keep the teams tied for 1st.

9/21 Phil Tomney comes to the plate with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, 0-3 on the day and faces Reds SP Chris Peters. He grounds out for the final out and the Giants win in 9, 5-2, ending Tomney's record hitting streak at 39 games and losing .5 game to the idle Cubs.

In the AL Detroit enters the bottom of 8 down 9-5 to Philadelphia and mounts a furious rally, but falls short and loses 10-8. The loss means the idle Indians are now .5 game in front of Detroit.

9/22 The reds Rube Oldring goes 5-6 as Cincy trounces Pittsburgh 12-5 to move back to 5.5 up on idle Chicago.

In the AL the first of 2 huge series between Cleveland and Detroit begins iwth Cleveland, now .5 game up, answering Andrew McCutheons 21st HR in the 4th with 2 of their own and another in the 7th to win 3-2. SP Curt Schilling (10-11 3.07) goes 9-6-1-1-0-8 beating Tiger SP Erskine Mayer (10-14 4.18) who also goes the distance with an 8-10-3-3-1-2 game. Cleveland is now up 1.5.


9/23 Cubs SP Perry Werden spins a 5 hitter vs the Cardinals in a 5-0 win to go to 17-13 4.14 on the year and coupled with Cincy's 3-2 loss in Pittsburgh moves the Cubs to 4.5 back

In the AL Cleveland's Lee Stevens hits his 18th HR in the 4th to tie the game at 1, where it remained until the 9th. Stevens led off the bottom with a single and scored the game winner on Dick Bartell's 2 out PH GW single to move the Indians to 2.5 games up with just days remaining in the season.

In Brooklyn, Dodger SP Dummy Taylor won his 17th game with an 8-0 3 hitter over the Phillies.

9/24 Cubs SP Sidney Ponson twirled a clutch 2 hitter over the Cardinals to move to 17-9 on the year while in Pittsburgh Cincy and the Pirates were in a 2-1 game after the first, and the game ended with the same score, Pittsburgh downing the Reds on Brian McCanns 39th HR in game 1 of their double header. Cincy came back with a 5 run first of game 2, and pummeled the Pirates 11-3 in the finale to keep a 4.5 game lead. Cincy has 6 games left, and the Cubs 5.

In the AL Detroit salvaged the final game of the series in a 6-3 win as Ace J.R. Richard returned to their rotation, they hope, in the nick of time. Cleveland is 1 game up with 3 games left to play, Detroit has 5 games left to play and they are tied in the loss column!

In the batting races, Yankees Rich Reese is 2 pts ahead of Red Sox slugger Rich Bannon, .326-.324, both have 6 games left.

In the NL J.D Drew had a strong week to retake the lead, and open a 7 pt spread (.356-.349) over the Cubs Sam Thompson.

Only 1 game with playoff implications today, the St Louis Cardinals at Chicago. The Cubs turn a 1-0 lead into a blowout with a 6 run 4th as Sam Thompson goes 3-4 with 2 HR's (36) and 6 RBI's to lead them to a 9-2 win, and move 4 games back of idle Cincy.

Jimmy Bannon (BOS) goes 2-4 with a run to move to .325 and Rich Reese (NYY) goes 1-3 with his 39th HR to fall to .326 in the batting race.

J.D. Drew (BRO) goes 0-4 to fall to .353 and Thompson's monster day for the Cubs puts him at .352 in the NL race.

Red Ames (NYY) tosses a 4 hitter vs. the Senators to move to 15-15 3.68 while Dave Goltz (BRS) wins 5-2 in Philly over the A's to go to 22-10 4.24 on the year. Vance Mungo (PHI) tosses a 1-hitter in Boston to beat the Red Sox 2-0 and move to 13-18 3.80.

Detroit, down 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd scores 4 times to take a 4-1 lead. Leading 5-2 into the 8th they give 2 back but hold on for a 5-4 win. Bob Rhoads wins (18-14) and Rick Lysander saves it for his 8th.

In Cleveland it's a wild one. 3-2 after 1, White Sox up. 5-3 after 3, 5-4 after 4, Sox still leading. Cleveland jumps them in the 7th for 3 to lead 7-5 but the White Sox get 6 in the top of the 8th and 1 in the 9th and then hold off a furious 9th inning Indian rally to win 12-10. Clevelands Tommy Adee goes 2-4 with 2 HR's (30) and 5 RBi's in the loss.

In Chicago the Pirates, behind rookie Brian McCann's 40th HR and Nelson Mathews 4-5 3B, HR (6) and 6 RBI's rout the Cubs while Cincy SP John Patterson overcoms early issues to win his 23rd (23-11) with Steve Crawford saving his 16th, and Cincy clinches at least a tie with 5 games remaining. A Red win or Cub loss in the final 5 games will clinch the NL Pennant for the Reds.

In New York 1B Rich Reese goes 3-5 to move to .329, and now leads Boston's Jimmy Bannon .329-.325 for the batting title.

Sam Thompson went 0-4 in the Cubs loss to drop to .349 while Dodger J.D. Drew was 0-1 in a PH appearance to fall to .352.

Detroit had a chance to grab a lead with Cleveland idle. Up 2-1 into the 9th Tigers SP Dana Kiecker yields a leadoff single to the Browns Mike Redmond and Closer Rick Lysander is summoned. Max Flack singles, and Ian Kinsler does the same, loading the bases. A 10 pitch Hand Edwards at bat ends with a bses loaded walk, a blown save, and a tie game. Jose Macias then puts St, Louis up with a sac fly and Lysander gets George Decker swinging for the 2nd out. Roger Nelson relieves him and ends the inning with no further damage.

St Louis starter Bob Muncrief starts the 9th by getting Roy Cullentine to fly out, then punches out Gavvy Cravath. Billy Sullivan Jr doubles on an 0-2 pitch and St Louis summons closer Rob Nen. Jimmy Welsh pinch hits for Detroit and on a 3-2 pitch lines a single to tie the game as Sullivan Jr scores from 2nd. Tony Womack hits a single and Welsh gets to third. 2 pitches later he scores the winning run on a Rob Nen wild pitch!

Cincinnati is merciful to Cubs fans as Mike Mussina goes 9-7-2-2-3-8 to win his 16th (16-11) and Cincy clinches the NL Pennant.

In New York, Yankee Rich Reese foes 2-4 with his 40th HR and 3 RBI's to move to .330 on the season while Jimmy Bannon goes 0-3 in Boston to fall to .324.

J.D. Drew (BRO) goes 3-5 with a double (22) and his 31st HR to move to .355 (Bob Horner hits 2 HR's for the Braves in this game, #'s 54 and 55 on the year).

Sam Thompson (CHC) goes 1-5 to drop to .348 in an 11-5 season ending loss to Pittsburgh. Scott Rolen went 3-5 with his 33rd HR for Pittsburgh (WOW! Rolen was drafted by Philly in the 1st draft, 3rd round 39th overall and in the 2nd draft he was taken 3rd round (47th overall)! That's actually kind cool.

1 game with post season implications today. Detroit hosting the St Louis Browns, and they jumped out 1-0 in the first. St Louis put 2 on the board in the top of 5, but Detroit answered with 2 in the 6th and 2 in the 8th to win 5-2 and open a full 1 game lead over Cleveland with 2 games vs Cleveland remaining.

In Pittsburgh Scott Rolen had another big day, going 2-4 with 2 HR's (35) and 3 RBI's while Brian McCann drilled his 41st in a 13-10 win over the Cubs. Sam Thompson went 0-5 to fall to .344 while J.D. Drew (BRO) went 0-4 to fall to .352.

Rich Reese (NYY) went 3-5 to move to .332 and Jimmy Bannon (BOS) went 2-4 to raise his average to .324.

In the batting race New York had an off day while Jimmy Bannon (BOS) went 1-4 to remain at .324.

In the NL JD Drew had a pinch hit appearance, going 0-1 to fall to .351 while Sam Thompson went 1-4 with his 37th HR to fall to .344.

Game 1 of the 2 game set between the Indians and Tigers will feature Tiger Ace JR Richard (14-5 3.27) vs Curt Schilling (10-11 3.07)... Sweet.

Hank Aaron drills a 2 run 1st inning HR (28) and a 2 run 7th inning HR (29) and Curt Schilling (11-11) goes 9-6-0-0-1-5 to beat Detroit and JR Richard (14-6 (3.32) who goes 8-7-4-4-5-8.

The Cleveland win means the seasons final game will determine the American League Champion!

The two AL contenders for the batting title squared off and Rich Reese's Yankees lost 5-4 but Reese went 2-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI's on his 41st and 42nd HR's while Jimmy Bannon went 1-4. Reese goes into the seasons final day with a .333-.323 lead and a virtual lock on the 1950 AL Batting title, as well as the AL Triple Crown.

Van Mungo tossed his 2nd consecutive shutout to move to 14-18 3.68 and while holding the Dodgers scoreless he held NL batting leader JD Drew hitless in an 0-2 day to drop him to .349, which keeps him leading Sam Thompson (CHI) who did not play, .349-.344

Brian McCann (PIT) is 2 RBI's behind Pudge Fisk (BRO) for the NL RBI title as well.

As I read over your thread, I thought it would be interesting to compare how your random debut league using 1950 settings compared to the one I am using for my HOF algorithm test run.

By having your league debut and drafting for 6 leagues, you are starting with a very rich talent pool. I am using historical settings, so our aggregate output should be similar for each 1950 season. However, I speculated that your stat leaders would have higher numbers. As your season is winding down, it looks like this is case.

In one of those cool coincidences: In my 1950 season the Detroit Tigers had a 35 y/o Curt Schilling lead the AL in strikeouts with 163.

Detroit....Andrew McCutcheon's 3 run homer in the 3rd was all the offense Detroit got, or needed, in a 3-1 win over Cleveland to clinch the AL Pennant on the seasons final day. Bob Rhoads (19-14) went 8.1-8-1-1-6-2 and Rick Lysander got the final 2 outs for his 9th Save to beat Chris Young (19-9 2.74) who went the distance 8-8-3-3-3-2 in the loss.

In the batting races Rich Reese (NYY) went 2-5 with 2 runs to finish at .334 and Jimmy Bannon (BOS) went 3-5 with a double (37) and a HR (18) to finish at .325.

In the NL race Brooklyn's JD Drew went 4-5 with a double to finish at .354 and Sam Thompson went 1-3 to finish at .343.
