Free Agent Strangeness

I just got to the offseason in my OOTP14 league. Players just filed for free agency and my owner set the budget. According to the financial screen, I have 1.4 million for free agents next year, and 10.1 million in year 2. I transferred control of signings to the AI just to see what kind of free agents they decided to go after. The first offer they made was to a stud Starting Pitcher who wants 15 million a year. The guy responded "liked offer but better offer was received".

Now, what happened to 1.4 million available for next year? How was the AI able to offer a 15 million dollar a year contract for 5 years? I took control back and tried to modify the offer down to 10 million a year, and I got my hand slapped saying "the owner does NOT approve this deal!" So he approved a 15 million dollar a year deal yesterday, but not a 10 million dollar a year deal today?

Something is fishy here. Has anyone else seen strangeness like this?

Sounds like the AI is your Owner's bratty nephew and that the owner doesn't like you.

Sounds like it might confirm a suspicion of mine that budgets only apply to humans in the game.

Well, I guess I dont want to complain. But, I kind of get me vs. it with the computer sometimes. So, I do get a little peeved at perceived advantages given to the computer.

I will never use warmup the pitcher in the bullpen, because when I first started playing, the AI was somehow able to not have to warmup (or hide their bullpen underground) so I never knew they even had someone warm up, much less who. Seemed like an unfair advantage.

This contract was so far over the "budget" set by the owner that I would be curious to know what happens if the guy actually signs the deal? Maybe the offer is just for show and would never truly be signed anyway. Either way, I would love to know why it is allowed.

In general, a human player should be able to run circles around the AI, so I don't mind an occasional AI advantage. They should have to play by the same budget rules, though.
