The Pittsburgh Pirates are available for a new General Manager to take the reigns.

This team is struggling, and has been for several seasons as they've suffered through a series of inactive GM's. There are some plusses to this franchise:

1) They're certain to have a high pick in what is expected to be a very good draft this year (1980 NL rookies, 1980 AL rookies).

2) They have four nice young position players already on the team: Eddie Murray, Jeffrey Leonard, Ken Oberkfell, and Garry Templeton.

3) Two pieces are set in the rotation with 23 year old Danny "Dr. Death" Darwin and 29 year old J.R. Richard (in this universe we'll be able to see "what if" for Mr. Richard).

4) Despite being an awful team, the Attendance and Financial Report still looks pretty good. This means you can make a relatively quick turnaround if you're paying attention.

See the instructions in the first post of this thread to apply to be a GM today!

*NOTE: We're approaching the end of the season this week, which means if there are GM's who didn't meet the minimum level of participation we might have a couple more open teams. This is the perfect time to throw your name in the hat!*

It's a great, competitive league run by a professional reliable commish.

We're just getting to the good years (1980's) now, so its a perfect time to join us!

We're getting ready to start the 1980 season, and there's currently two teams that need new leadership in the ORB2:

Baltimore Orioles- Want a rebuild opportunity? The Orioles were 70-92, finishing last in the AL East. They were under league control for the last part of the offseason, so they did acquire some pieces to make them more competitive this year (and/or flip for picks/pieces after the FA signee trade deadline is lifted).
Top Position Players: 3B Buddy Bell, 2B/1B Dan Driessen, RF Brian Rosinski.
Top Pitchers: SP Larry Christensen, Steve Busby. (pitching needs a LOT of work)

Los Angeles Dodgers- A rebuild project doesn't interest you? Want more of an instant contender? The Dodgers are your team, then. Finished second in the NL West last year with a record of 87-75, 7 games back. There's plenty of pieces here for an active GM to put this team in the playoffs.
Top Position Players: LF Willie Crawford, 1B Sachio Kinugasa, SS Doug Flynn.
Top Pitchers: SP Jim Willoughby, CL/SP Monty Montgomery, SP Tsuneo Horiuchi.

To learn more about the ORB2, see the first post in this thread. PM me here if you're interested in taking over either of these teams.

The New York Mets are currently looking for a new General Manager.

The Mets are one of those teams that are primed for an immediate rebuild. They have lots of stars over 30, that could be quickly flipped for picks and youth. A GM who comes in and does what's necessary could find themselves quickly competing with the Phillies in the NL East.

Ed Kranepool is one of the top offensive players in the league, though he's having an off year. Johnny Bench is the league's top defensive catcher, with some home run pop (yup, it's "Other Reality").

The biggest prize is starting pitcher Don "Black and Decker" Sutton, who would certainly grab a nice return on the trade market.

Sadly, the Mets saw 2B Joe Morgan's career end this year with the dreaded "torn labrum" injury.

ORB2 also brings in "defectors" who are real life foreign players each offseason, as well as giving us the ability to import real life minor leaguers. The latter program is based on our Participation Point system. This is an active, writing based league and we're looking for folks who want to have an immersive experience. If you're an export only kind of guy, and don't like to visit forums regularly- we're probably not your type of league. If you've been in leagues where you wish there was more chatter and you wish more GM's would be involved- this is probably a good league for you.

First time online leaguer? We have a lot of supports in place for you- with two League Directors dedicated to helping you navigate the online league experience. It's not always easy to acclimate, we try to make sure there's "no man left behind".

Come check us out!

Just about to finish up the 1980 regular season, so it's the perfect time to join. the New York Mets are still open- and I also anticipate a couple more openings this offseason. Get in now and be able to shape your team through the upcoming draft and free agency!
