Dave Perez 1979 Missing Umpire
I couldn't find a forward-facing picture of Perez, but the back of his head is shown in this May 20, 1979 picture of Perez (right) getting screamed at by Texas Rangers manager Pat Corrales. (AP Photo/Gary Stewart)

Clarence Adams 1976 Missing Umpire
An article in the Indianapolis Star from 1976 mentions Adams' only big league game and refers to him as a "high school English teacher." His only major league game was a Cubs-Pirates game in Pittsburgh, and a search of area high schools reveals a Clarence Adams who taught English at Steel Valley School District. Here he is shown in the school's 1996 yearbook.

Jack Baswell 1979 Missing Umpire
Retrosheet lists Baswell as being born in 1944 in Gadsden, Alabama. I found a Jack Baswell as a sophomore in the 1960 Gadsden High School Yearbook on Ancestry.com.

Howard Jumper 1979 Missing Umpire
Retrosheet gives Jumper's birth date as March 1, 1934 in Texas, and a search of Texas yearbooks on Ancestry.com reveals only one solid match for a Howard Jumper, born March 1, 1934 in Franklin, Texas. He is shown in the 1955 East Texas Teachers College yearbook. Records also reveal Jumper died on March 26, 2010 in Texarkana, Texas.

John Spange 1991 Missing Umpire
I was able to locate a photo of John Spange umpiring what I assume is a spring training game or a minor league game featuring a Twins affiliate named after their parent club, as his lone regular season MLB contest was an Expos-Pirates game on April 8, 1991. This comes from his Facebook page.

Bob Long 1992 Missing Umpire
My search for John Spange led me to a Facebook group for Minor League Baseball Umpires Alumni. I searched for missing major league ump and longtime minor league umpire Bob Long, and found his profile. Here he is.

Tom Gillean 1879 Missing Umpire
Multiple sources indicate that Thomas J. Gillean was both a ballplayer and a successful jeweler in addition to his 31-game stint as a National League umpire in 1879 and 1880. Here he is pictured with the 1876 London Tecumsehs. I've also included his obituary.

James Clarke Scott
We have a photo of James C. Scott in an umpire uniform on page 27 of this thread, but it primarily shows the back of his head. This is an improved photo, clearly showing his face. It is from his obituary. He died on May 1, 2019 at the age of 76.

Jim Sheasgreen 1981 MISSING UMPIRE
The replacement umpire formerly listed simply as "Shaesgreen" has been identified as Jim Sheasgreen. Long after his umpiring tenure, he entered local politics in Alberta, including a time as mayor of Fort Saskatchewan. The attached photo shows him during one of his election races, ca. 2010.

Marvin Hecht 1979
This is an improved quality photo for Marvin Hecht, albeit one at a much more advanced age. It's an obituary photo from the Chicago Tribune. He died on Aug. 2, 2019.

Eddie Stack 1910 (Umpire 1934)
As noted earlier, former major league pitcher Eddie Stack became a prominent Chicago umpire - semi-pro and college games - and was asked to fill-in for an ailing NL umpire Cy Pfirman in a game at Wrigley Field on April 29, 1934.
The Chicago Tribune photographed Stack behind the plate at least twice in 1941. Especially nice was the image of him working the Chicago Police Game: |

Firpo Marberry 1923 (Umpire 1935)
Many umps were ex-big league players but certainly all-time relief great Fred "Firpo" Marberry accomplished something that may have been unique. He went from active player to umpire in the same league, in the same year, and then went back to playing the next year. His career path reads Tigers/American League/Giants/Senators.
Upon joining the American League staff in the early summer of 1935 he posed for a couple of hard-to-believe shots for wire services, details of which have held up pretty well over the years. That's American League President Will Harridge in the shot in which Marberry looks less like a rookie ump and more like Billy Sunday: |

Charles Johnston 1936 (?)
This is from an RMY Auction from quite awhile ago - I can find a google image on a search but no link to the shot. It was Opening Day 1936, and was, as I recall, identified as umpires Johnston, Summers and Owens, Coach Bill Webb, managers Jimmy Dykes of the White Sox and Mickey Cochrane of the Tigers.
I'm not sure if the umpire IDs were meant to be definitive, but the boxes show Brick Owens worked the plate that day (and was injured) and the figure obscured by Cochrane seems to be an ump with his chest protector on the ground by his feet. The animated ump seemingly shouting a point about Grounds Rules is certainly Bill Summers. That would make the figure on the right Johnston, who lasted only two years as an A.L. ump. I'm not certain that he's a perfect facial match to the other visuals we've seen of Johnston but Owens was beefier-faced and far less stern-looking. |
