2022 St. Louis River Walkers: Two years without a postseason
The St. Louis River Walkers have just entered the first day of the offseason following a second straight campaign where they failed to make the playoffs.
Decisions have already been made, after being given a hefty contract following the 2020 season catcher Tucker Barnhart proceeded to hit below .200 much of the 2021 campaign. His option, which was for a second season at $9.5 million, has been declined. The team will look to either re-sign him at a lower price or look to find another starting catcher. Arbitration has been declined on left-handed relievers Grant Dayton and Jacob Lindstrom, as well as outfielders Andrew Toles and Scott Schebler and infielder Whit Merrifield. All three of the position players, along with Lindstrom, spent the bulk of the season in the minor leagues. Free-agents, outfielder Michael Conforto, pitchers Danny Duffy and Yu Darvish all have been made the $15 million qualifying offer. Although none are expected to accept it. Left-handed reliever Jake Diekman and catcher J.T. Realmuto will be allowed to depart without compensation. |

Walkers news: Notes from owner
I have received a pair of notes from Owner Bill DeWitt III.
The first with a list of suggestions on what he wants to see going forward, I may be on the verge of being fired after two straight postseason misses, and the other on the budget of the team. |

Walkers news: St. Louis loses Conforto to Akron
The St. Louis River Walkers were shocked to learn that All-Star right fielder Michael Conforto has decided to sign with the Akron Flying Feet as a free agent.
The team had gone through preliminary talks with the 28-year-old and offered an six-year deal worth $19 per season ($114M). Conforto opted for less dollars and more years, sevebseasons at $17.2 million ($120.4 M). The front office of the River Walkers is slightly peeved that there was no indication Conforto was close to signing with Akron, as no notices had been sent out about talks between the Feet and such a high-profile player. |

Walkers news: Darvish signs with Cincinnati
The St. Louis River Walkers have seen right-handed starting pitcher Yu Darvish sign with the Cincinnati Skyline.
The Walkers really didn't put much effort into bring back the 35-year old due to his insistence on a multi-year deal, which he got signing for three seasons at $17.4 per. Darvish had a decent campaign for St. Louis in 2021, going 16-9 with a 4.44 ERA. Last edited by rink23; 05-10-2019 at 03:46 AM. |

Walkers news: Duffy jumps ship to Springfield
The National League leader in ERA in 2021 (2.86), free agent left-hander Danny Duffy has agreed to a four-year deal with the Springfield Prairie Fighters worth $14.6 million per season over four seasons. The final season being a player option.
The River Walkers were willing to give Duffy $16.4 over four season, but that final campaign included a team option. |

Walkers news: Buxton inked to seven-year deal
The St. Louis River Walkers have announced the signing of 28-year-old outfielder Brian Buxton to a seven-year contract worth $19.3 million per season.
Buxton replaces, for now, Michael Conforto in the St. Louis outfield. He probably will not replicate the power Conforto provided, but is one of the best defensive outfielders in the game. |

Walkers news: Catcher Hedges agrees to contract
After voiding the option-year of four-year starting catcher Tucker Barnhart, the St. Louis River Walkers have added Austin Hedges to be their new starting backstop.
While Hedges doesn't seem to bring much to the table offensively, he gets high marks for his defense and leadership. The 29-year-old agreed to a one-year deal worth $2.33M. |

Walkers news: Lefty reliver Vazquez signed to contract
The St. Louis River Walkers have announced the signing of left-handed relief pitcher Felipe Vazquez to a minor-league contract.
While Vazquez has not fared while in his opportunities in the majors, scouts like his ability if used as a left-handed specialist. |

MBL news: A-Rod and Ortiz make hall.
Although, I did not vote for either of them, Alex Rodriguez (convicted steroid user) and David Ortiz (probable steroid user) have both been elected to the Hall of Fame.
