That's easily explained. Through 1972 Topps did not prepare, print, or distribute all a given year's cards all at once. They were produced in Series, with the first hitting stores around March 1. To meet that deadline the cards had to be printed by, say, December 7. If a player in the first series was traded to a new team on November 15 Topps might have time to swap in a new, airbrushed photo. If he was dealt on November 30, they might just ink out the logo on the cap and change the team ID. In Pete Burnside's case he was traded on December 5 - only enough time to change the front text line "Washington Senators" to "Baltimore Orioles."

He was telling me back then that the Topps photographer would come up to players, ask to take a few pics and then go on to the next guy He said that he was asked to pose for about 2 pics each time and that was it..

I thought that I had a TV Dave Moates with Rangers, but can't find it in my files. Maybe I'm imagining having it or simply lost it some how. I would love to have it posted if it does exist. ( I believe it was a batting pose thigh high as well)

Hardly my era, but out of the RMY Auction online catalogue, and attributed to the Cleveland photographer Louis Van Oeyen, outfielder Joe Rabbitt, whose entire two-game, three at-bat career was contained in a week in Cleveland in 1922:
