Monty Williams

Smart, hard-working, good defensive catcher with an ability to draw a walk and hit some dingers.
Pretty much exactly the kind of catcher I prefer and seek out for my Brewers. (Though I've had a hard time getting the power part of that package.)

He actually accepted my offer too! Let’s hope he avoids off the field distractions in Compton and develops into the player he should become.

2077 Season (6/14 – 6/16)

Los Angeles Lakers (39-23, .629, 1st NL West) @ Houston Dynamo (21-43, .328, 6th AL West)
The Houston Dynamo are something of a Laker dumping ground for noodle armed pitchers… SP Josiah Kawka, the Ace who fell from grace while wearing the Purple & Gold, RP Saul Guzman, the hard-partying everyman who earned 24 saves before going down for the last 6-games of the season with ‘dead arm’, and RP Rudolf the Ruiner, who was just terrible, have all found a home in Houston. Kawka, back in the ‘Ace” role has a 5-7 record with a 3.92 ERA, and is only maintaining that spot by virtue of the rest of Houston’s staff being so far below subpar that one has to wonder why the Dynamo brass hasn’t hit the Bush League for talent. And, Rudolf? Well, he’s fitting right in – 2 blown saves and a loss since joining the club. And, Saul? 7.71 ERA, 7 BB/9, and a -0.5 WAR. The Dynamo are in the midst of a full-on tanking effort, it seems – they’re ranked 12th in Runs Scored, OBP, bWAR, BR, FIP, and ZR. Hell, even their batboys could use some work – prancing around the field like a gazelle on Xanax with a running gait that can only be described as a poor man's imitation of a duck waddle… It’s a rare thing that you see a club that is this good at being bad… If this isn’t a sweep, we riot.

63 of 162: Dejuan Burns (5-4, 3.35) @ Cleveland Cornejo (3-7, 5.14)
Win, 7-3
. Recent call-up, 2B Mark Messick, went 4 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run… Otto clubbed his 16th and drove in 3, Voorhis put his 8th out of the park, and Burns gets his 6th W off of a 7 IP, 3 ER effort. Lots of good stuff in this one – 3 stolen bases (Lonzo, Otto, Hamza), 2 DP’s, a SAC BUNT from Hamza, a SAC FLY from PEPPER, and a double for OH HONG.

Elsewhere: C Brahnan Jones, of the Portland Timbers, went 4 for 6 with a HR, 6 RBI, and 2 runs in their 17-7 victory over the Phoenix Suns – helping the Laker cause… Portland was victorious in this one despite Jacob Wells’ 2 HR & 5 RBI performance for Phoenix. Jones has been a career backup at Catcher and has spent time in Vancouver, Brooklyn, and Portland in his MLB Career. He started off this season in the Bush League as the starting Catcher for the Sunrise Supremos where he hit .338 with a HR and an RBI before the Timbers purchased his $600K contract on May 9th. He won a World Series with Vancouver in 2072. Wrist and elbow problems have plagued him a bit during his career, but he’s managed to put together a pretty respectable fringe career in the Bigs…

64 of 162: Paul Yeager (9-2, 3.10) @ Prior Balazs (4-8, 6.14)
Win, 5-2
. Yeager gave us 7.1 innings of work and allowed only 2 runs to score, PEPPER went 1 for 3 with a homer, and Otto drew two walks and scored… Save #15 for Barbaccia, a stolen bag for Ethan, doubles for OH HONG and Rajkumar (who was also hit by a pitch), and a sweet McDonnel-Mack-Hong double play in this one – we’re doing what we’re supposed to do here, playing at full throttle against a club that is built like a Yugo.

65 of 162: Newton Weiser (7-3, 2.61) @ Josiah Kawka (5-7, 3.92)
Win, 7-4
. The streets of Houston are safe tonight – we got the sweep, there will be no riot. Otto went 2 for 4 with a HR & 4 ribbies, and Newton went deep into the game (8 innings) and gave up 4 runs – look, he wasn’t magical tonight, but he got it done… 16th save for Barbaccia, another double for OH HONG, stolen bags for Lonzo Gonzo, Otto, and Ethan, 2 double plays, and an OF Assist from Voorhis. We’re pretty good at baseball you guys – especially when we play a team like Houston. I’m not convinced that they could even make the playoffs in the Bush League.

Some notes: We’ll head to San Francisco for a 4-game series next followed by a day off and then 3 more on the road against Vancouver… Our lead on Phoenix has been extended to 5 games and with a couple of patsies on the docket we’ll have a good opportunity to pad it even more… the combined winning percentage of our next two opponents is .385. In the Bush League… we have some really tight divisions so far… in the Independence Division, the Dearborn Dilly’s have a 1 game lead over the Naperville Nibblers, Nolanville ‘Nauts, and Gainsville Gamecocks… while, in the Justice Division, the Beaumont Bullies, Columbia Blowfish, and Decatur Donnybrooks are stuck in a 3-way tie for the top spot.

Speaking of the Bush League… I might need to invest in a club down there (maybe go halves with Shawna) because it seems like selling players to the Majors (for a fee of $500K a pop) is pretty lucrative… So far in 2077, the following contracts have been purchased.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of 3B Ethan Cope to the Orlando City.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of C Joon-Ho Kang to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Ferdie Acker to the Toronto Reds BC.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of CL Chip Gaytan to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of SS Sammie Fregoso to the Minnesota North Stars. – Had no idea this even happened, Sammie is having a really good season for the North Stars too…
  • Quincy Quackers: Sold the contract of RP Tony Dyson to the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of C Yo****aro Nakamura to the St. Louis Rams.
  • Coney Island Footlongs: Sold the contract of 2B Zippo Hollins to the Phoenix Suns.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of CL Kayden Thomason to the Phoenix Suns.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of C Tanner Meminger to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
  • Quincy Quackers: Sold the contract of SP David Ouwerkerk to the San Francisco 49ers.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of CF Zoë Cuello to the Chicago Fire.
  • Dearborn Dilly's: Sold the contract of LF Roy Schoenherr to the San Diego Chargers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SS C.J. Elliott to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of LF Thomas Torin to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of SS Ethan Beckmann to the Houston Dynamo.
  • Columbia Blowfish: Sold the contract of CF Jason Dalton to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Coney Island Footlongs: Sold the contract of SP Jack Monroe to the Montreal Impact.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of SP A.J. Hinson to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of SP E.J. Powers to the St. Louis Rams.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of SS Kevin Palmer to the Portland Timbers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Flamengo Zamora to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of CL Carlos Cortez to the Carolina Panthers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of 3B Sherman Hardcastle to the Green Bay Packers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SS Wyatt Lucas to the Carolina Panthers.
  • Columbia Blowfish: Sold the contract of 3B Devin Kelly to the Chicago Fire.
  • Sunrise Supremos: Sold the contract of C Brahnan Jones to the Portland Timbers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of CF Ned Saucerman to the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of CF Zach Lavoie to the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of C Max Vislosky to the Seattle Sounders.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Jay Hernandez to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • Dearborn Dilly's: Sold the contract of C Alshon Jimena to the Golden State Warriors.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of CL Adrián Oronia to the Montreal Impact.

Beaumont has pocketed $8M in fees so far! Yeah, I’m definitely buying a Bush League Club – who do I talk to about expansion?

2077 Season (6/17 – 6/20)

Los Angeles Lakers (42-23, .646, 1st NL West) @ San Francisco 49ers (31-34, .477, 4th NL West)
Four days in San Francisco... world-class sushi, Chinese food, and 4 games against a beatable baseball club. The 49ers are one of a few clubs that have taken a giant step back in 2077 - not as giant a step as the one that Philly has taken, they weren’t great last year after all, but, directionally they are going the wrong way and given their lack of assets it would appear that the brakes on the 49ers bus are a bit shoddy. There’s no telling just how low this once storied franchise can go. 11th in Runs, bWAR, and OPS, 12th in base running, but their staff, helmed by Landon Sampson (7-3, 2.40) is holding up okay at 6th in the NL... a beatable club, but no walk in the park. The 49ers have entrenched themselves, somehow, in the middle - they’ll play us tough, but if we show up, we should get over on them easily enough.

66 of 162: Aiden Jensen (5-6, 4.95) @ David Ouwerkerk (4-5, 3.04)
Win, 6-2
. Aiden nearly completed the game – 8.2 innings, 5 hits, and 2 earned for the young man… last out went to Barbaccia. Save #16 took him 10 pitches to complete – he gave up a hit before getting a grounder for out # 27. 2 RBIs each for Voorhis (who hit 9th in the lineup today), O-Mack (2-run double), and Ethan (2 SAC FLIES, Y’ALL)… Otto went 3 for 5 with a run, SBs for Otto & Ethan, error for Dontrell Gay. Mack got thrown out trying to make it home by SF CF Filonas Polyclitus – highlight reel OF assist for the bad guys there… Hamza has a 20-game hit streak… Longest in Laker history was 32 straight for SS Johnnatan Candido in 1997 – Candido was a 5-time AS & GG while in Los Angeles & his 110th birthday is on June 24th, 2077. Might have to see about getting him out to the park to lead us in a rendition of ‘take me out to the ballgame’ if he’s up to it. Of course, we’ll be in Vancouver BC on that day, so, maybe not.

67 of 162: Michael Brisk (6-5, 4.07) @ Landon Sampson (7-3, 2.40)
Loss, 4-2
. Brisky allows 4 in 6… not awesome (106 pitches too) and Landon hit double digits for K’s… he kept us off balance all night – Lonzo Gonzo is the only starter that didn’t strike out tonight… Dom hit a double, and Lonzo swiped a bag. Really not much else to say about this one. Lackluster baseball from the yellow caps in this one, no doubt. Oh – one thing – Hamza’s streak ended at 20… but you knew that was coming, didn’t you?

Elsewhere: Phoenix LF Jess Alford went 3 for 4 with 2 dingers, 2 RBI, and 3 runs in their 6-2 victory over the North Stars… Minnesota’s starter, and former Laker washout, Matt Olston allowed 3 homers in 5 innings of work (he also struck 8 out, but that hardly matters when you let three leave the park, amiright?)… Former Laker, current Pittsburgh Steeler, 1B Ian Hanan went 3 for 3 with a double, a ding dong, 3 ribbies, and a run in their 10-5 LOSS against the Brooklyn Citizens – BRK got 3 RBI each from LF Aramis O’Connell and (FORMER LAKER) Ruben Zarate.

68 of 162: Dejuan Burns (6-4, 3.39) @ Dustin Pate (3-5, 4.68)
Win, 4-1
. Burns was serviceable over 5 innings, nice hold for reliever Jonny Garcia, and 18th save for Barbaccia… Ethan, 4 for 4 with 2 runs, Otto, 2 for 3 with a HR and 3 RBI, and another hitless day for Hamza… Messick & Mullins swipe bags, errors for OH HONG & HAMZA… 41 thousand 49er fans came to watch their club get smoked.

Elsewhere: DH Tom Franzone, leading All-Star vote-getter (so far) out of Pittsburgh, went 5 for 5 with a double, a homer, 2 RBIs and 3 runs in their 9-5 win over Brooklyn… 1B Ian Hanan is still hot for Pittsburgh – drove in two for the Steelers in this one. Franzone is a 26-year old DH – that’s, um, interesting.

69 of 162: Paul Yeager (10-2, 3.05) @ Jan Hernandez (6-2, 4.63)
Win, 7-5
. Rajkumar Kosciusko went 4 for 4 with a double, RBI, and run & Paul Yeager gave us 7 hard scrabble innings where he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits… Barbaccia allows two hits (and runs – attributed to Jonny Garcia though), so Ferdinand Loving saved the day for the 1st time this season – he secured the final two outs on 10 total pitches to give us a 3 & 1 series in the Bay… Voorhis hit a double, PEPPER hit a SAC FLY, and 2 double plays for the La La’s – nice series win before our day off and a trip to Vancouver BC.

Name: 69 Win.PNG
Views: 170
Size: 188.6 KB

Note: Otto took home the NL’s Player of the Week Award. He went .423 with 3 dingers and 10 ribbies… Houston traded RP Saul Guzman to Seattle for a couple of Minor Leaguers – RHP Ben Benitez looks to have some upside – the Dynamo may have done something pretty good with this trade, time will tell. Somehow, Saul doesn’t look as drawn out in a Sounders kit – maybe it was Houston’s color scheme that made him look like he had been out partying for 15-days straight. CITY OF COMPTON news… LF Bakari Konate went 3 for 3 with 2 homers and 3 RBI in our 6-4 win over the Austin Grackles… so, that’s pretty cool.

2077 Season (6/22 – 6/24)

Los Angeles Lakers (45-24, .652, 1st NL West) @ Vancouver Whitecaps (22-47, .319, 6th NL West)
7-21 at home, a double-digit ranking in every major statistical category, and trending to lose 110 games in 2077 – It’s safe to say that the Vancouver Whitecaps are in a bad way. They are trending to their worst season of all-time… their previous worst came way back in 2042 when they finished with a 63-99 record. In fact, they’ve only finished last in the NL West four times (1992, 1998, 2017, and 2042). It’s safe to say that this has not been their year – not due to injuries or any other outside factors either. Nope. They’re just terrible – not built for winning… just a collection of stiffs with suspect athletic ability and little to no baseball acumen. Their top pitcher is ranked 23rd in the league, their third baseman wouldn’t make the big club on any other organization, and LF Eloy Delando – the Dutch Antillean Nightmare – has soured their clubhouse to the point of mutiny. Their GM, Bat Hampton, is serviceable, but he’s not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination – vanilla, milquetoast, and unimaginative. You have to wonder how long he will last before the owner, TJ Torres puts him out on the street. Long story short – it’s tough to be a Whitecap supporter right now, so, props to any fans that bother to make it out to the park for this 3-game road set.

70 of 162: Newton Weiser (8-3, 2076) @ Julian Brooks (1-8, 7.14)
Win, 10-7
. Newton gave up 4 runs (including a homer) in 6.2 innings of work, but Vancouver’s starter, Julian Brooks, gave up 7, including 3 homers in, wait for it…. TWO INNINGS OF WORK. We crushed this poor kid – took a 7.14 ERA and puffed it up to a nice, round 8.00 for him. Voorhis, Otto, and Rajkumar all hit dingers, OH HONG, PEPPER, and Tony add a double each to the mix, and we get 2 ribbies from Otto despite the fact that he fanned out 3 times tonight. Basically, we were mixing up a stew in this one – fresh seafood, some all-spice, and that Laker brand of alchemy all mixed up in a cauldron of awesomeness… and, we invited each of the 22,816 in attendance to come on down and enjoy a sample. Unfortunately, our witchcraft magic could not protect us from injury as, your boy, PEPPER GRANT, was hobbled while running the bases in this one… DIAGNOSIS PENDING.

Name: 70 Win.PNG
Views: 171
Size: 188.4 KB

Note: The diagnosis is no longer pending – your boy has back spasms, is DtD for the next 5-7 days… all good.

Elsewhere: Josiah Kawka, of the Houston Dynamo, pitched a CG, 6-hit shutout over the Los Angeles Galaxy and added 7 strikeouts in the 4-0 win. The LA Galaxy committed 3 errors in the game – really should have been a 1-0 victory for Houston had all their players remembered to bring their gloves into the field with them.

71 of 162: Aiden Jensen (6-6, 4.68) @ Anthony Boswell (2-4, 4.07)
Loss, 9-3
. Arthur Grant killed us today… 3 for 4 with 2 homers and 4 RBI. Aiden only lasted through the 4th inning, and reliever Mason Sandoval made sure to spot the Whitecaps a few extra runs before handing it off to Paul Wilson. Ethan came to play – he’d get 3 hits and even stole a bag, Hamza stole his 29th, and, well, no one else really contributes much for us in this one. Oh Hong struck out 3 times, Otto struck out twice, and without Pepper in the lineup to ignite a spark we couldn’t get warm enough to get anything cooking. Nothing is given to you in Baseball – one day, you’re the best in the biz, and the next day you’re lucky if you get your laces tied correctly before the game.

72 of 162: Michael Brisk (6-6, 4.19) @ Adam Gunter (6-7, 4.15)
Win, 8-5
. When you take a peek under the hood, Adam Gunter & Michael Brisk are basically the same guy with the only discernible differences being that Gunter wears a handlebar mustache while Brisky sports a super-sexy Magnum PI ‘stache and that Brisky rolls a Lambo while Gunter drives a ’76 (electric) Ford Bronco… having said that we won. OH HONG won the man of the match on a 2 for 3 performance with a double, an RBI, and 2 runs, Voorhis & Mullens put balls out of the park, PEPPER played (1 for 5 with a run), and Hamza swiped his 30th bag of the season… in the bad news department – 3B Dontrell Gay developed a hitch in his giddyup while running the bags… ANALYSIS PENDING.

Name: 72 Win.PNG

Notes: We’ll head home for a 6-game stretch with sets against Orlando City & the St. Louis Rams on the docket… Our lead over the Suns sits at 4 ˝ games – we like that, but we don’t love it. Brooklyn has taken a 1-game lead in the NL East with STL a single game off the pace and Montreal only 1 ˝ back… Jacksonville’s 2B Telma Tavares, who leads the league in WAR at 4.1, will be out of commission for 4-weeks with an Oblique strain – memories of 2076 have come flooding back (we lost the WAR leaders for both leagues (Heathcote & Ray-Ray) at the end of that campaign…). Orlando CF Masaharu Watanabe, last season leader in strikeouts, has regained the lead in that category again – he has fanned at the plate 96 times so far in ’77… Hamza leads the league in runs scored at 61 and in times caught stealing at 9 (Ethan is second in CS at 8)… Current Laker, SP Paul Yeager, leads the league in wins at 11 and Former Laker, SP Matt Olston, leads the league in losses at 11 – that’s called symmetry folks (Right? I think it does)… the CITY OF COMPTON’s SP Kordell Littles leads the IL in Sac Hits at 9 – kids a ballplayer, always looking for a way to win… And, I put Minor Leaguer, LF Joseph Zody, on the block – he’s solid, but doesn’t factor into my long-term plans, so it’s time to get him onto another club where he will be given an opportunity to actually flourish – problem is, when I shopped him around, I didn’t even get a nibble on him. He’s stuck in baseball purgatory for now it seems… Lastly – look at this guy I found in the Bush League – SP Jax Abreu, an independent league lifer, who was drafted out of East Carolina by the Golden State Warriors before being released the following year (rumors at the time seemed to indicate that he got caught fraternizing with the Skippers wife during the 7th inning stretch of a game that the San Jose Sharks were playing against the Columbus Bluejackets) and starting what would become his life’s work in the Bush League – where he’s made stops in Columbia, Hagerstown, Dearborn, Decatur, Gainesville, and Naperville before joining the Coney Island Footlongs… he’s an okay baseball player, nothing special, but the man has himself as strong a ‘stache game as I’ve seen in some time.

2077 Season (6/25 – 6/27)

Orlando City (37-35, .514, 5th NL East) @ Los Angeles Lakers (47-25, .653, 1st NL West)
As one of five clubs in the NL East with a .500 or better record, City stands out as the one most likely to spring a leak in their water wings and sink to the bottom… they have a +2 rDiff, are +5 against the Pythagorean, and, despite winning their last two games, are 4-6 for their last 10… their best player, LF Otis Murray, is on the shelf for at least two more weeks, and, in his absence, their offense has started to reveal their true selves – 10th in OPS, power-starved at 11th in HRs, and 10th in wOBA – theirs is a machine that sputters more than it purrs. The Pitching has been good, though, with the Starters acquitting themselves nicely despite being surrounded by mediocrity – of course, the fact that they’re 12th in errors committed doesn’t give any of their hurler's confidence that their efforts will be rewarded on defense. Orlando is a club in flux – it’s hard to understand what it is that they are going for this season after trading away their assets for okay returns in the form of some less than sure-thing prospects… they haven’t made the playoffs since 2074 and they aren’t likely to break that trend in 2077, so, for now, they are just another club mired in a sea of mediocrity and hoping that the coasties will show up soon…

73 of 162: KJ Judd (2-5, 4.02) @ Dejuan Burns (7-4, 3.29)
Win, 3-1
. A walk-off win, at home, in extras – Dontrell Gay hit his 4th dinger of the season, a 2-run shot off of RP Radoslav Borovsky in the bottom of the 11th, to secure a sweet home victory for the Lakers faithful… this one was tightly contested, not much offensively worth highlighting – Ethan stole a bag, Gay’s GWHR came with 2-outs on the board, Burns only gave up a single run – Barbaccia struggled to get the win (of course), but Ferdinand was there to mop it up and earned his 4th win of the season… I’ve really fought putting him in the rotation thus far – may have to put him on the bump in an “opener” capacity soon just to see how that plays out…

Elsewhere: Pittsburgh’s 1B Ian Hanan went 2 for 3 with a GRAND SLAM and 4 walks in the Steelers’ 7-2 road victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in extras – Hanan’s GS came in the top of the 13th and was all they’d need to finally send this one to the showers… relief pitcher, Hunter Thomas, who is now 0-5 with a 4.65 ERA, gave up 5 runs in the 13th frame and was saddled with the loss. Thomas won the 2076 IL Democratic League Reliever of the Year Award but has struggled so far in the Majors… In Bush League news – 25-year old Hagerstown 1B, Micky King, went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 homers, 4 ribbies, and 3 runs in the Hummers 10-8 win over the Nolanville ‘Nauts – curious to see when a Major League club comes calling for this guy as the $500K entry fee seems like a small price to pay for a guy who could develop into a bootleg Ethan Mullens in the right system – maybe it’s the twisty ‘stache stylings that are hold him back, too dorky for primetime.

Also, BIG news out of Houston… with RF Elias Baron going on the 10-day IL, DEREK JETER will have an opportunity to join the big club – his contract was purchased from Salt Lake today, and he will join the Dynamo on the road in Chicago immediately.

74 of 162: Mike Clendenin (3-2, 3.96) @ Paul Yeager (11-2, 3.09)
Loss, 2-0
. Another tight ballgame, but this time there’d be no magic for the La La’s… Clendenin gets the CG, 7-hit, shutout win for City while Paul Yeager gave up 2 runs over 7 innings of work with 10 K’s… apparently, the injury to Otis Murray was overstated as he returned to the lineup today for Orlando and went 2 for 3 with a solo-HR… Rajkumar struck out three times, Messick GIDP, and Voorhis went 0 for 4. We were terrible at the plate tonight and sent 47,583 fans home tonight feeling like they wasted their money on a ticket, parking, and over-priced concessions…

75 of 162: Cathal Magill (7-1, 2.81) @ Newton Weiser (9-3, 2.93)
Loss, 6-2
. Ouch. Three straight days of fierce pitching from the opposition where we could only muster one magical moment… CG, 4-hit, 2-run effort from Magill, while Newton could only manage 6.2 with 5 runs earned… Hrs for Otto & Voorhis, a double for HONG, and an error from Hamza – plus, 10 total strikeouts for the club with two each for Otto, Ethan, and PEPPER. Not our finest hour, that much is clear.

Elsewhere: Carolina’s SS Larry Wronski went 4 for 6 with two doubles, a homer, 5 RBIs and 2 runs in their 13-10 win over Golden State and RF Timmy Simpson hit a 3-run jack to add to the fun… our lead over the Suns is sitting a 3 ˝, so that doesn’t make me happy, and Brooklyn is now in a two-way tie with STL for 1st in the NL East while Pittsburgh & Montreal are only a game off that pace… Derek didn’t crack the lineup in his first day up with Houston – they played a close one against the Fire (a 4-3 Dynamo win), so none of the reserves managed to get in the game…

2077 Season (6/28 – 6/30)

St. Louis Rams (43-30, .589, 1st NL East) @ Los Angeles Lakers (48-27, .640, 1st NL West)
When you think about the Rams, there are only 4 names you need to know – 2B Mike Duncan, LF Lynden Urmanski, RF Jonah Dove, and SP Josiah Weber. On their own, anyone of these gentlemen is capable of giving you fits, but, as a unit – when they are in sync – they’re enough to run you off the field post haste. After a .500 season in 2076, where they, ultimately, got swept in the second round of the playoffs, St. Louis has taken a giant step forward. They’re no longer a .500 club that you don’t have to be too worried about – not anymore – now they’re a club that gives you heartburn, a real “now I got worry” situation where there isn’t enough milk of magnesia to curb your anxiety – no, playing these guys is the baseball equivalent of a taut, boogie-down infused blues bombast straight to your face… it’s enough to knock you down and to make you wonder if it’s better to just wait it out instead of getting back up. It should be a tough set here for the La La’s… don’t get me wrong, we’re good for it, but I’d rather see these guys on better form.

76 of 162: EJ Powers (0-1, 3.86) @ Ferdinand Loving (4-0, 3.60)
Win, 7-4
. I decided to give Aiden a spell and to skip his turn in the rotation – the extra rest should help him right the ship – and put Ferdinand in as an Opener… he went a total of 41 pitches in 2.1 IP and only allowed a single hit while K’ing 3 – of course, our Skipper brought Aiden out of the pen and he didn’t fare so well – 3 earned in 0.2 innings of work – but Paul Wilson gave us 5 innings in long relief to secure the win and Barbaccia picked up his 20th save. I’m not sure if my experiment worked – but we got the desired result. Hamza scored three times, Voorhis twice, and Ethan drove in two… Double for Messick, triple for Ethan, and a homer for Voorhis… two steals for Hamza and an error charged to PEPPER. A good win, it got dicey there for a bit, but we dug deep and got it done.

77 of 162: Masaya Nakagawa (8-5, 3.41) @ Michael Brisk (6-6, 4.52)
Win, 4-3
. We’d get a good version of Brisky today – your boy has been up & down so far in 2077 – in a 7.1 IP performance with 10 hits, 3 earned, and 6 K’s, and Rajkumar Kosciusko went 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI… 21st Save for Barbaccia (3 K’s, no hits), 2-out RBIs for PEPPER & OH HONG, and a swiped bag for Ethan – a nice 68-degree night at the park.

78 of 162: Josiah Weber (7-3, 3.11) @ Dejuan Burns (7-4, 3.13)
Win, 10-7
. We chased the goat out of this one during the 5th after charging 6 earned to his account – OH HONG went 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer, Rajkumar hit a 2-run jack, and Messick hit a double & a homer… the young bloods coming up wild. Garcia gets the Win in relief, Barbaccia secured his 22nd save, and Hamza collected his 33rd bag. We got ourselves a somewhat surprising home sweep against a good club that was in good form when they arrived in LA – not so much anymore, I guess…

Elsewhere: I purchased RF Ronin Greene off the Columbia Blowfish after my scout turned in a favorable report on the kid – looks like he could develop into a contributor & local fave with the proper seasoning – time will tell. He’ll be spending time in Compton working on his craft… Former Laker SP Merl Crawford (BRK) took home the Pitcher of the Month Award in the NL – he’s 10-3 with a 3.58 ERA so far in ’77 and went 5-0 in June. Our own Rajkumar took home Rookie of the Month with a .444 AVG, 3 HR, 14 RBI, and 9 run performance in June… he’s hitting .302 on the year. Derek Jeter went 0 for 4 with 3 K’s in his only appearance for Houston so far – yikes… Our lead on Phoenix is back to 5 ˝ games – DANCE & REJOICE – and Brooklyn is now tied for 1st in the NL East with Pittsburgh while Montreal & STL are only a single game off the pace… Heathcote Kinton has taken the AL lead in WAR with Telma Tavares out due to injury – nice to see Kinton heating up, let’s hope he stays off the IL.

2077 Season (7/1 – 7/4)

Los Angeles Lakers (51-27, .654, 1st NL West) @ Phoenix Suns (46-33, .582, 2nd NL West)
Nothing beats a rivalry series… Phoenix has themselves an ultra-high-powered offense – 1st in RS, OBP, OPS, wOBA, and HR & 2nd in AVG – that they pair with a middle of the road pitching staff that is oft-injured and easy to score on. They enter this series at 7-3 in their last 10 games, with a +29 rDiff, a phenomenal 16-6 record in 1-run games (tops in the bigs) and are +4 against the Pythagorean. A motley crew of crusty desert dwellers who can play ball a bit and who always get up for a set when we are in town…

79 of 162: Paul Yeager (11-3, 3.03) @ Jack Sanchez-Flores (8-6, 4.15)
Loss, 4-3
. Walked off in Phoenix – the subtitle of my yet to be written autobiography, to be sure… Some late, bottom of the 9th, magic from Jacob Wells to send us to the showers – kid hit a 2-out, run-scoring single to secure the win and save us all from extras. RBIs for Mullens, OH HONG, and PEPPER, and not a lot from anyone else – where oh where have my ballplayers gone? Dontrell Gay went 0 for 4 with 4 K’s – that’s special – and Hamza stole one and got caught on his second attempt… Yeager labored out there in the hot Arizona sun – 113 pitched over 5 innings of work for the 6’1” 190lb whirling dervish today. Some guy named Tony Wohlberg went 4 for 4 on us – looks like he was added to their club in a trade with Houston and called up to help manage injury fallout on the 22nd of June… My scout tells me that the kid is trash, but his box score says otherwise.

Speaking of Houston… they pulled off what is, in my estimation, an absolute coup of a trade today when they sent SP Cleveland Cornejo to Vancouver for RF Reading Minor and minor league RF Aris Anaconda… Anaconda is the steal here – my scout isn’t high on him but his OSA ratings are off the charts. I have to side with the OSA ratings on this one – kid’s a beast.

80 of 162: Newton Weiser (9-4, 3.16) @ Jake Talley (2-3, 3.38)
Win, 8-2
. Some nice get-back today for the good guys… Weiser gave us 8.2 innings of 2-run ball before handing it off to RP Paul Wilson for the final out, Tony Voorhis went 1 for 3 with a 3-run HR, and Otto hit a 2-run blast of his own… Pepper drove two in, Voorhis secured his 4th ribbie of the contest on a SAC FLY, Hamza was hit by a pitch, and Otto threw Jacob Wells out at 3rd from CF – take that guy who ruined Christmas in the bottom of the 9th last night…

81 of 162: Aiden Jensen (6-7, 5.29) @ Julen Morales (6-4, 4.00)
Loss, 5-1
. Jensen was better than he has been, just not good enough… 7 innings and 3 earned for the future stud who is still feeling his way around in the Majors… Our lone highlight is a SAC BUNT from Messick – everything else was ugliness… Hamza with the GIDP, Tucker got pegged by a pitch, Messick commits his 2nd error, and PEPPER had the day off. Wait. What? Who authorized a day off for PEPPER? With as much as he’s getting paid now, I expect him to go full Ivan Drago and trot himself out onto the field like a GD machine! Nothing else will suffice.

Note: We can all rest easy again, my friends – OTTO NOW LEADS ALL VOTE-GETTERS IN NL ALL-STAR VOTING. That is all.

82 of 162: Michael Brisk (6-6, 4.46) @ Del Miller (6-5, 5.13)
Win, 10-4
. We’ll settle for the split… Brisky did what he had to… nothing more, nothing less, Voorhis was a nightmare for the Suns – your boy went 3 for 5 with a 2-run ding dong, and Ethan drove one in and scored 3 runs… 22nd longball parked in the cheap seats by Otto, doubles for Hamza & PEPPER (welcome back little guy – hope you’re all rested up), and we stole 4 total bags (2x for Ethan, 1x for Dom & Hamza)… sweet outfield assist for Tony as well – he managed to throw Jess Alford out at home from deep in Left Field. Alford should’ve never gone for it – must be buying into his own (well-deserved) hype.

Elsewhere: Kwaku Kwaku, of the Montreal Impact, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a homer, two RBI, and three runs in Montreal’s 14-1 win over the crestfallen Philadelphia 76ers… Harlem Peterson & Mack Ramirez also each drove in three runs for the Impact, who also hit 6 total doubles as a team… With the split in Phoenix, our 5 ˝ game lead remains intact – good enough for me… Pittsburgh has wrestled sole ownership of the top spot in the NL East away from Montreal (for now), the Toronto Reds are looking to overtake the New York Jets in the AL East and are now just a single game off the pace, and Seattle is sitting on a comfortable 6-game lead over the suddenly floundering LA Galaxy (who are 3-7 in their last 10).

2077 Season (7/5 – 7/8)

Los Angeles Lakers (53-29, .646, 1st NL West) @ San Diego Chargers (33-47, .412, 5th NL West)
From one paradise to another – first we had four games in Phoenix, now we get a four-game stretch in San Diego… Let’s hope that Brisky can control himself this time. The Chargers, after missing the postseason for the first time in three seasons in 2076, are poised to do it again, albeit in a more spectacular fashion. They’ve fashioned a barely-above average offense that is 2nd in the NL for OBP and 5th in just about everything else but has a lot of work to do in the pitching department if they plan on being competitive any time soon. 11th in RA, Bullpen ERA, FIP, and pWAR, and 12th in Starters ERA – the San Diego pitching staff can’t really do the one job they have to do very well. And at 4-6 for their last 10, with a -51 rDiff, and a 16-22 home record – I think that it is safe to say that San Diego is in rough form. This should be a nice respite before the all-star break replete with winning, street tacos, and roller-skating on the boardwalk.

83 of 162: Dejuan Burns (7-4, 3.54) @ Burt McElheny (6-5, 3.71)
Loss, 3-1
. Well, I did go roller-skating last night after arriving in San Diego from Phoenix, so there is that – the winning though, well, not so much… Dejuan gave us 6 innings, gave up 2, and was saddled with the loss as Big Burt McElheny went ham over 7.1 innings of 1-run ball while striking out 9 of my La La’s… Otto went 3 for 4, Lonzo got caught stealing, and, well, we just really sucked in this one. The Chargers put TWO SAC FLIES on the board tonight and that was the difference. That and the fact that we sucked. Our suckage helped too.

84 of 162: Paul Yeager (11-3, 3.11) @ Rod Garcia (4-4, 5.70)
Win, 6-5
. Yeager didn’t look great – he gave up 5 in 7.2 but somehow walked away with the win anyway… we’ll take it, but I expect better from our Ace. Ethan went 3 for 5 with a solo HR, OH HONG went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Barbaccia picks up his 23rd SV, and ETHAN STOLE THREE BAGS. 3 homers in the game – Otto, Ethan, Dylan Tucker (his 1st), 2 doubles – Messick & Voorhis, and 2-out RBIs for Messick, Otto, and Ethan… some good stuff out of the Yellow Caps tonight.

85 of 162: Newton Weiser (10-4, 3.08) @ Artyom Fadeyev (3-11, 6.73)
Win, 4-2
. Newton pitched 7 solid innings, and Dom Cooke’s solo HR in the top of the 8th put us up for good tonight – another ho-hum, game 1 like performance from the team, but we got it done this time… 24th save for Barbaccia – dude’s been automatic lately, digging on that… PEPPER hit his 20th double, Dontrell hit a SAC BUNT, and Hamza, after seeing what Ethan did last night, went out and stole two bags in response… he also committed an error which Ethan did not do last night… so, is that one-upmanship? Bagging rays by day and winning games by night – a man could get used to life in San Diego… also – I’m thinking about getting glow in the dark wheels for my roller-skates, something in neon green. Dunno yet, need to temperature check the locals.

Elsewhere… FILE UNDER: Good God, man, what happened? The Columbia Blowfish dismantled, razed, and flat-out destroyed the Quincy Quackers by a score of 27-4 in Bush League play tonight… two of their players put up 5 RBI, another 4 put up 3 RBI, they hit five dingers, TWO SAC FLIES, stole a few bags, and touched up 8 of the 10 pitchers that made an appearance for Quincy…

86 of 162: Ferdinand Loving (4-0, 3.41) @ Mike Augustine (2-7, 6.75)
Win, 7-5
. Another “opener” start for Ferdinand – he gave up 4 runs in 2 innings, so it did not have the desired effect – that we, fortunately, escaped unscathed as we went on to score two in the top of the 9th to secure the victory here. I tried to get cute with my staff again and almost got burnt for it… Barbaccia, unfazed by my shenanigans, picked up his 25th save, Otto & OH HONG hit doubles, SAC FLY for Isaac, steals for Lonzo Gonzo and Hamza, and some extreme luck for the La La’s here… Ferdinand gave up TWO DOUBLES and TWO HOMERS as the opener – just got hit tiddies liddy in this one folks, I’ll not be pulling this type of thing again until after the All-Star break.

Note: I purchased Lloyd Daniels’ contract off of the Decatur Donnybrooks… it’s the last of my budget, so I hope that it's worth it… My head scout, Zahur Peterson told me that Lloyd will take a walk if he doesn’t get a pitch to hit and the he has good contact ability – which was enough for me… Phil Murray’s money was burning a hole in my pocket – I just couldn’t help myself. I’ll keep tabs on him in Compton from time to time… if anything, I can pork-barrel the kid into a trade as filler to push it through.

2077 Season (7/9 – 7/11)

Los Angeles Lakers (56.30, .651) @ Minnesota North Stars (42-42, 3rd NL West)
Shawna’s club has made some strides – sure, they’re a .500 club so far in 2077, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg – see, while their big club is toiling through another ho-hum MLB season, the Minnesota Braintrust has been busy restocking their Minor League system. They now rank 8th in that department – up 12 spots from their previous perch and seemingly positioned to become a respectable club in short order… Here is a team that can knock it around a bit – 1st in AVG, 2nd in OPS, bWAR, and wOBA, and 3rd in runs scored – with a pitching corps that has the 11th ranked Starters ERA and 10th ranked Runs Against. If only they could speed up the development of their arms who are currently housed in the minors… but, that’s not how this thing works – they’ll have to wait like the rest of us and hope that their fans will be patient enough to stick around for the results.

87 of 162: Aiden Jensen (6-8, 5.19) @ Matt Olston (2-12, 6.15)
Loss, 6-0
. Before the game, I asked my assistant why she thought that Matt Olston still had a job in the Majors – she responded with a shrug… He, however, did not. A complete game, 4-hit shutout for the former Laker in this one – putting his old club on notice here… Jensen, conversely, continues to underwhelm – he has the talent, but just can’t seem to put it together. He needs time – maybe, I’ve brought him along to quickly? Who knows… Oh Hong led the team in hits with TWO, hit a double in the 7th, and committed a fielding flub that will be on lowlight reels for years to come – all in a day's work. Defensively we were okay in this one – 4 double plays… just couldn’t get anything going against Matty. He had us befuddled, addlepated, and punchy in this one… all noodle legged and unsure of ourselves – like a bad-tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance.

Elsewhere: Brooklyn’s RF JULES WINFIELD went 3 for 4 with a double, a homer, 3 RBI and 2 runs for the Citizens today – his was a wasted effort, however, as the NYC based club was unable to capitalize and fell to Montreal by a score of 12-6… on the other side of the ball, LF Harlem Peterson gave Brooklyn the business with a 3 for 5, 4 RBI performance. Jules, one of my faves, always a bridesmaid & never a bride. I just hope all the kids had fun.

88 of 162: Michael Brisk (7-6, 4.36) @ Shiro Nakamura (5-8, 6.37)
Win, 9-0
. 8 inning, 8 hits, ZERO EARNED in a blissful performance from Brisky – your boy is always good for some get back, a real “when the chips are down, I’m your man” type… a dying breed. Otto hit a 3-run moon-shot, Hamza scored 3 times, Mullens drove in two, walked twice, and scored, and PEPPER got a phantom RBI despite not getting a hit, a walk, or a HBP in this one… (no sacrifices either).

Elsewhere: Final All-Star Vote is counted… three Lakers made the cut – NEWTON, HAMZA, and OTTO. Other notables include – Palmer Parker (PHI), Ray Gerhold (PHX), Tom Franzone (PIT), Josiah Weber (STL), Case Tunnell (LAG), and Heathcote Kinton (LAG).

89 of 162: Dejuan Burns (7-5, 3.51) @ Dylan Tuyay (7-4, 6.75)
Win, 17-4
. We really put a bad one on Shawna’s club in this one – no mercy… Ethan (not an All-Star?) went 4 for 5 with two ribbies and 3 runs, Dom hit a homer & recorded 4 RBI, and Tony Voorhis (not an All-Star?) went 3 for 5 with a 3-run homer in the 4th… Otto (leading vote-getter) hit his 25th out, PEPPER put 3 safely in play, OH HONG struck out 4 times, we hit 5 doubles to go with our 3 homers as a club, Mullen & Hamza each stole a bag, Otto & Tony got hit by the pitcher (with the ball), and we head into the All-Star break feeling like we are the best damn baseball club on the entire planet. And who knows, maybe we are…

Notes: Our lead over NL West rival, the Phoenix Suns, has ballooned to a nice & comfy 7.5 games – they went 4-6 over their last 10 and are on a 3-game skid as we speak – couldn’t have happened to a nicer group of guys… Heathcote Kinton (LAG) is leading the league in WAR (he was leading it at this point in 2076 as well – let’s hope he doesn’t end the season on the IL again) with Otto in second at 4.3… I sent Aiden Jensen to Compton and decided to take a look at Trevor Dotson in his stead. Oh, and the National League won the All-Star game by a score of 8-3… Philadelphia’s Palmer Parker took home the MVP trophy, Hamza went 0 for 3, Tommy Franzone (MLB HR Leader) hit one out, Otto went 0 for 2, and Newton pitched a perfect inning in the 4th, 3 up, 3 K’s, only 13 pitches… wow.

Special Note: SP Aiden Jensen pitched a CG, 5-hit, shutout in a 3-0 win over the Gwinnett Stripers in his CITY OF COMPTON debut… we’ll let him chill down there for a bit – it’ll do the young man some good. Besides, the kid looks sharp in the Compton kit.

2077 Season (7/16 – 7/18)

But, first… regardless of your club affiliation, and despite your outright hatred of everything that the Cardinals stand for (it’s okay, embrace it), you must admit that there is no more beautiful play in baseball than a WALK-OFF SAC FLY IN EXTRAS!

Los Angeles Lakers (58-31, .652, 1st NL West) @ San Diego Chargers (35-52, .420, 5th NL West)
Look, let’s be honest, not much has changed since we last met the San Diego Chargers, in San Diego, only a scant few days ago or so – they are as we left them… still serviceable on offense and still dreadful on the bump. We’ll that’s not exactly true – they did trade away CF Smith Wells, the man with two last names, on the 6th, in exchange for a trio of garbage minor leaguers. They are embracing the suckage it seems… And so, it is - second verse, same as the first... I basically live in San Diego now and probably need to start thinking about finding an apartment. This is not a complaint - 3 more days in paradise spent sampling the local cuisine while locking horns with a club whose form looks to be pitiful is as good a way to spend some time as any from my perspective. Of course, I’ll be here, my assistant, however, will not - it seems that the Bush League club in Sunrise, Florida is contemplating a sale and I’ve sent her to investigate (and to scout the team). I expect mixed results on that initiative (she doesn’t even like baseball) – so, in addition to missing several meetings because, without her at the helm, I’m terribly disorganized and wholly incapable of being a serviceable GM, I should also get a poorly worded recap of a game that she could barely be bothered to pay attention to in the next few days. It will most likely come as a series of text messages, sent back to back, and at inexplicable speed. I wonder what kind of emoji’s she’ll use…

90 of 162: Paul Yeager (12-3, 3.27) @ Burt McElheny (7-6, 4.00)
Loss, 5-2
. Burt McElheny, it turns out, is the sultan of swag – he spent his time on the mound today talking to the ball and willing it to do his bidding against us… the crusty, handle-bar mustachioed, vet went 7.1 innings of 6-hit, 2-run ball against us here while Yeager spent the same amount of time on the bump but let twice as many runs get across. Hey… we weren’t without highlights (actually, we were) – I mean OH HONG went 2 for 3 (he hit a double – his lucky 13th) before our skipper lifted him in a low-leverage situation for PH O-MACK, PEPPER left 6 on-base, Dom had another passed ball (leading to the unearned 5th run), and Dontrell Gay struck out 3 times. Here’s the thing – when we’re bad, we’re really bad…

A text from Megan, my assistant… hey boss I went to that game you told me about. The team with the taco on their hat won I think.

A 2nd text from Megan, my assistant… the thrower had one of those mustache’s you like, his name is EJ Born – he’s like 34. he told me after the game that he won the Pacheco in 71. pretty cool lol

Clearly, I’ve made a mistake…

91 of 162: Dejuan Burns (8-5, 3.39) @ Teagan Rachel (8-3, 3.65)
Loss, 6-3
. Well, I think that it is safe to say that San Diego sucks… the weather is too nice, the local talent too attractive, and the baseball is meh… Teagan went 8 and gave up 3 while Dejuan gave up twice that, including 3 in the bottom of the 1st… Otto hit a SAC FLY. That’s all I got, man. Seriously – that. is. it.

Elsewhere: Some guy, out of Houston, named Mick Udelhoven went 5 for 6 with a double, a homer, and 2 ribbies in the Dynamo’s 5-4 loss in Portland. Only Houston finds a way to lose that game… Also, SP Steve Allen, of the Dallas Cowboys, pitched a complete game, 4-hit, shutout in their 10-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy and, in the process, has done his part to make sure that all of the baseball fans in Los Angeles will go to bed unhappy tonight. Fun times…

92 of 162: Michael Brisk (8-6, 4.07) @ Artyom Fadeyev (3-12, 6.51)
Loss, 5-4
. Before we left this morning, Brisky came to my room and told me that the only way he’d feel comfortable on the mound tonight would be if I rented him a Lambo to drive over to the ballpark. I told him no and that he was being ridiculous – it turns out, I was wrong. Brisky was fine – 7IP, 4H, 2ER – but the La La’s were not. Instead, we were on the wrong end of a sweep for the first time in 2077. PEPPER hit one out, OH HONG struck out 3 times, Ethan hit a SAC FLY, and Hamza got caught stealing (I’m not bailing him out this time), Jonny Garcia falls to 2-2 after blowing his first save of the season – dude gave up 3 runs and didn’t even make it through the 8th frame. I mean… whatever.

Elsewhere: Heathcote Kinton (LAG) went 3 for 4 with 2 jacks, 6 ribbies, and 2 runs in the Galaxy’s 10-7 win over the Cowboys – some sweep revenge for the other LA club (I wonder what that feels like…). HK is now hitting .325 with 18 HRs and 65 RBIs on the year – and his WAR is now at 5.0 – he’s pretty good at this… in Carolina, 1B Pablo Madera hit a GRAND SLAM in the Panthers 10-6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars… he’s also pretty good at baseball. Our lead over the Suns is back down to 4 ˝ games – a real two steps forward, one step back situation… Hamza is no longer leading the league in steals as that honor now belongs to Jamie Burke of the San Diego Chargers – that brat went 2 for 3 in steal attempts against us during this set while Hamza went 0-1. The kid is a 26-year old speed demon out of Arizona State (and who was born in Chandler, AZ) that can play a little bit of defense, hit it around a smidge, and who runs like the dickens.

2077 Season (7/20 – 7/22)

Vancouver Whitecaps (33-60, .355, 6th NL West) @ Los Angeles Lakers (58-34, .630, 1st NL West)
The Vancouver Whitecaps are basically a Unicorn – except without the magic and devoid of purity and grace. So, essentially, they’re not a unicorn at all… no, that was a terrible analogy – they’re actually a lot like a hard-drinking uncle who gets the meat sweats at family bar-b-ques. The type that seems cool until you look on them with more mature eyes… They are also a Strangeverse rarity – these guys are bad everywhere… offensively challenged, defensively inept, and the pitchers couldn’t hit the glove from 5-ft away with a beachball. All of this is concerning really… they are the kind of team we should destroy in our sleep, but don’t. In that way, maybe we are the Unicorn – content to spread our love around and sprinkle our special brand of magic dust on all the crappy teams we play. See, these guys are no better than San Diego and you saw what happened there… these are the sets that give me nightmares, the ones where we are supposed to win but often don’t. Confirmation bias? Maybe. Call me old fashioned – I’m a what have you done for me lately type of guy.

93 of 162: Cleveland Cornejo (4-10, 4.97) @ Newton Weiser (11-4, 2.91)
Loss, 5-2
. Yeah, so, this happened – our 4th loss in a row comes to Cleveland Cornejo, who is a terrible pitcher against every club not called the Lakers. The vet went 7 strong, gave up 5 hits, and allowed only 2 runs – but that’s less than half of the story. It was their bullpen (RANKED LAST IN THE NL) that really did us in – 6 shutout innings spread across three relievers topped off with a 3-run top of the 13th courtesy of CJ Elliot’s bases-loaded walk that put the Whitecaps up for good. Our highlights: PEPPER put one out, Lonzo Gonzo hit a double, and Ethan stole his 32nd base…

94 of 162: Adam Gunter (9-8, 4.01) @ Trevor Dotson (0-0, 0.00)
Win, 5-2
. Trevor’s major league debut was a success – he didn’t come out of the gates quite like Newton Weiser, but he acquitted himself nicely here. I hope he enjoyed it as I’ll probably bring Jensen back up in a couple of days… Ethan was clutch, 2 for 3 with the RBI that put us up forever, Barbaccia notched his 26th save, Hamza drove two in, another double for OH HONG (15th), two triples (Hamza & O-Mack), and 3 double-plays… it’s nice to see the club playing baseball again.

Elsewhere: SP Cam Murphy (PHX) pitched a CG, 4-hit, shutout against the San Diego Chargers in a 5-0 Suns win. The former Blue Mountain State Goat added 8 K’s and no walks to the performance… It took Cam a while to develop in Tucson (Phoenix’s minor league affiliate) and he finally seems to be turning the corner in 2077 – if only he could improve his movement though. With more movement, this kid would be a world-beater. Legendary stuff, great FB, better slider, and middling movement…

95 of 162: Jeronimo Tucker (2-4, 5.51) @ Paul Yeager (12-4, 3.36)
Win, 8-1
. We’re back, baby! Off that schneid and back on that high life! Otto went 4 for 4 with a HR, 3 RBI, and 2 runs, Yeager gave us 8.2 innings of 6-hit, 1-run ball, and Mark Messick went 3 for 4 with two doubles and 2 ribbies in a rare start (kid plays in about 30% of our games)… 5 doubles for the club (Messick 2x, Ethan, OH HONG, and Hamza), Otto’s 26th, and a SAC FLY from PEPPER in this one. Some good stuff from the yellow caps here – and we’re back on form just in time to welcome the fearsome Pittsburgh Steelers to town.

Side note: I recalled Aiden after the game, which means that Trevor Dotson is once again flexing the Olde English C & Black Cap in Compton… his day will come, don’t you worry. Also, our lead over Phoenix sits at 4 games now – I mean, not ideal but it could be worse…

2077 Season (7/23 – 7/25)

Pittsburgh Steelers (56-39, .589, 1st NL East) @ Los Angeles Lakers (60-35, .632, 1st NL West)
The Steelers are the bogeyman with a roster that boasts the four horsemen of the baseball apocalypse in Ian Hanan, SP Robby Garrett, SP Gregory Moran, and, on the pale horse, 1B Tom Franzone… They’re built for balance – they may wobble, but they won’t fall down – ranked no lower than 5th in any relevant statistical category, these guys are the real deal… They have a +62 rDiff, are on a 4-game winning streak, are 8-3 in extras, and are doing it all despite ranking 10th in the league for payroll. Their GM, CJ Graber, is widely considered one of the best in baseball, and at 66-years young isn’t going to retire anytime soon – he likes veteran leadership, offense, power, and doesn’t make trades – his talent is either homegrown or picked up, after a thorough vetting process, in free agency. His clubs have made the playoffs in 7 of his 10 seasons at the helm and are looking good to make it 8 in a row this season. This set will be a tough one – always is when Pittsburgh is in town.

Note: I brought Trevor back up and gave him a role in the bullpen…

96 of 162: Tony Hulquist (6-3, 3.23) @ Dejuan Burns (8-6, 3.71)
Loss, 3-0
. Well, Tony Hulquist came to play – complete game 3-hit shutout in our park that improves his ERA to below 3… We just couldn’t get anything going tonight – Hamza, Dom, and Otto record our only hits, Tony, who we traded Hanan for, went 0 for 4 & ground into a double play, and Otto committed an error.

Elsewhere: Montreal’s Harlem Peterson went 5 for 6 with a double, 3 RBI, and 2 runs in the Wanderers (new name – I got bored with the old one) 13-8 win over the San Diego Chargers… Montreal spread their 13 runs in this one across 3 pitchers and hung 6 of them on San Diego’s Starter Teagan Rachel. The Wanderers are 6-13 so far in July, 3-7 in their last 10, and now find themselves 7 games off of Pittsburgh’s pace in the NL East.

97 of 162: Gregory Morgan (9-4, 3.89) @ Michael Brisk (8-6, 3.98)
Loss, 3-2
. Ouch – tough one. Brisky was doing fine, until he walked 3 batters in the 7th – 6.2, 6 hits, 4 walks, and 3 K’s for the game before we lifted him…Dontrell Gay hit a solo HR – no one else does anything of note unless the fact that OH HONG & Tony left 3 stranded each for the game is of interest.

98 of 162: Kurt Miller (5-2, 3.64) @ Newton Weiser (11-4, 2.92)
Loss, 3-0
. Well – this is a new low for the 2077 Lakers – swept at home in a set where we only score two total runs. We were utterly dominated by the Steelers here – Franzone, perched atop his trusty steed, went 3 for 4 with a double and a run and Kurt Miller toyed with us for 6 strong innings (8 K’s over that stretch too)… again, the song remained the same for us – nothing of any substance to report – OH HONG K’d twice, we stranded 9 baserunners, and basically wilted in front of our hometown crowd. What a mess.

Elsewhere: While Pittsburgh reached up to claim the #1 spot in the Weekly Power Ranking we plummeted to the #5 spot – looking up at St. Louis, Seattle, and Phoenix now… SS Donny Jeter, of your St. Louis Rams, went 2 for 3 with TWO HOMERS, 4 RBI, and 2 runs in their 5-2 win over the Minnesota North Stars – he was basically the whole show here – digging that he still is good for a performance like this every now and again (LONG LIVE THE JETER BROS)… It’s been over a minute since anyone on my CITY OF COMPTON RAIDERS has given me anything worth highlighting and that makes me sad… Of course, Rad Taylor picked up a win recently and his ERA is below 4, so… progress? As for the big club – we, like Montreal, are 3-7 in our last 10, and have now been swept twice in July – the wheels haven’t exactly come off (we’re 9-11 in July) but we’ll definitely need to get our alignment checked.

Trade Alert: I sent 2B Mark Messick to the San Francisco Seals (I changed their team name as well) for a couple of low-key pitching prospects – both relievers with good movement and control (iffy elsewhere). Zechariah Stillman joins the big club (down goes Trevor… again), Tatum Leibowitz will report to Compton, and 2B Mario Marshburn gets called back up to LA…

2077 Season (7/26 – 7/28)

Philadelphia 76ers (49-50, .495, 6th NL East) @ Los Angeles Lakers (60-38, .612, 1st NL West)
Despite having two of the game’s best position players in CF Norris Flaherty and LF Palmer Parker, Philadelphia has a bit of a hitting problem. As in, they can’t seem to do it very well – 11th in AVG / 12th in OBP – the 76ers are unlikely to beat you with their hitting. Their pitching is mostly solid – they’re middle of the road in most categories – but their bullpen has been among the best in baseball when they’ve been afforded an opportunity to impact the game. Before winning 60% of their games and going into the playoffs as the prohibitive favorite in 2076, the 76ers missed the playoffs for three straight years and given the giant step back they seem to have taken it may take that long to get back. At 14-7 so far in July, Philadelphia has been playing teams tough lately – this will be another tough series against a club from Pennsylvania here – let’s just hope we don’t get swept again…

99 of 162: Nat Millard (5-7, 3.87) @ Aiden Jensen (6-9, 5.50)
Loss, 3-2
. Norris Flaherty stole second in the 1st and then took 3rd on a Dom Cooke throwing error – Palmer Parker brought him in on a hard-hit infield grounder… and just like that the 76ers went up 1-0… A Cody Keenan solo shot put them up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd – Ethan brought Marshburn in on a fielders choice in the bottom of the 5th and a double from Otto would tie it up in that same frame – we were battling here, but in the end Aiden would give up his second HR of the game – this one to Justin Jenkins – and that would be all she wrote. Another 4-game losing streak from the La La’s, who just can’t seem to dial it in, with errors for DOM & OH HONG helping to ensure that Philly kept the Pennsylvania dominance on track.

100 of 162: Vin Uhlman (10-6, 3.60) @ Paul Yeager (13-4, 3.22)
Win, 5-0
. Finally, we get a little something going – O-Mack went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, PEPPER brought one in, Yeager gave us 6.1 shutout innings, RP Paul Wilson went 2.2 innings in relief to preserve it, and Hamza brought 2 in on his 16th double. This was as good a bounce-back performance as we could have hoped for given our recent run of ineptitude… we’ll take it, we’ll hopefully build off of it, and finish off July on something of a high note.

Elsewhere: SP Nacho Valadez gave the Chicago Fire a CG, 4-hit effort in their 9-1 win over the Portland Timbers – at 10-5 on the season, Nacho has been a welcome surprise since being traded to the Fire by Orlando City in the offseason. His ERA, currently at 4.22, isn’t ideal – but, he’s been keeping his club in a position to win and at this stage of Nacho’s trajectory that’s about all you can ask for.

101 of 162: Gregory Highman (3-2, 3.15) @ Dejuan Burns (8-7, 3.66)
Loss, 11-2
. Well, so much for putting something together – former Laker, Nehemiah Jenkins, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, 3 RBI, and 2 runs & Norris Flaherty went 4 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs… Burns was okay – I mean he gave up 4 runs over 6 innings, so could’ve been worse – but the real story here is that newcomer Zechariah Stillman’s Laker debut wax an absolute mess – new guy gave up 6 runs in only 1.1 innings of work and even committed an error. Good stuff.

Elsewhere: Golden State’s 1B Ryan Wright had a 3 HR game against the New York Jets and nearly doubled his 2077 HR total at 8 – it was an 11-8 road win for the Warriors… this will, most likely, be the only time Wright (and his 55 Power rating) ever does something like this again in an MLB game… soak it in young man – you got the golden ticket today. Green Bay’s SP Isaiah Zuno is out for the season due to radial nerve compression – I don’t really know what that is, but it has to suck… I’m a Zuno supporter and wish him a speedy recovery… Oh, and, after this latest display of inequity – Phoenix is only a scant 2 ˝ games off our pace and it’s looking likely that they will overtake us by mid-August. Great.

2077 Season (7/29)

Josiah's still got it...
While we were busy enjoying (or not, depending on which player you ask) a rare day off, the G.O.A.T., Josiah Weber, was busy giving the baseball world a vintage performance against the Phoenix Suns. The Rams beat the Suns by a score of 5-0 on the back of Josiah’s complete-game, 4-hit, shutout performance… Weber added 11 K’s to the mix (including 2 K’s against SS Ray Gerhold) and was an absolute craftsman over his 122 pitches – he mixed in 80 pitched strikes over the course of the game and often got the befuddled batsmen of Phoenix to chase after bad pitches during the contest. Josiah is now 10-4 with a 3.23 ERA and 3.9 WAR – not quite the world-beater he once was, sure, but still capable of shutting down a world-class club. I fear that he will retire before he wins a championship – it’s the only piece of hardware he needs to complete his collection – well, that and a no-hitter would be nice… is that too much to ask?

Special note: Josiah's handiwork improves our lead over the Phoenix Suns to 3 games in the NL West - your boy is doing the Lord's work my friends...

2077 Season (7/30 – 8/1)

As I await our date with the Montreal Wanderers and faced with the unenviable reality of a day off staring me in the face, I’ve made the terrible mistake of taking stock in my club to idle my time. This, of course, was an analog exercise where my assistant, Megan, painstakingly printed out hard copies of everything I would need to conduct a thorough and proper analysis. That she left a small cup and large bottle of whiskey next to the stack of printed materials should have clued me into the foreboding I was about to subject myself to. But, it didn’t. Because I’m dense, too prone to abject positivity to go into this effort with eyes wide open. What followed then was a journey into the heart of darkness, one where you know exactly what you will find but are too stubborn to realize it. I’ll keep my discoveries brief - we are, since the all-star game, the worst team in all of baseball (10-13 record). Our hitters can’t hit, especially against lefties where, based on the numbers (sub-.200 average), it would seem that many of our guys enter the box without a bat. Our pitchers, once the best in the league as a unit, are struggling - they’ve mastered the art of treating throwing strikes like an impressionist painting where they simply can’t be bothered to do it for real. It’s this last bit that concerns me most - we’ve become the embodiment of an Italian deli where meatballs are sold individually and served to order. There really is very little to like contained in the stacks of paper Megan has provided - and I’ve tried everything... reading the papers from the last page to the first, turning them upside down and pretending like they are some alien hieroglyphs that contain the secrets to time travel. All for naught. In the end, it’s difficult to discern the meaning of it all - maybe there is no meaning in baseball - and even an entire bottle of whiskey coupled with Megan’s two sizes too tight, tight pants, are not enough to stir my imagination to the point of feeling optimistic about the contents of her report. We’re in a bad way, folks, in a free-fall where our main parachute is faulty, and the backup is suspect.

So, it is with reservation that we travel to Montreal to face the Wanderers - a club whose post-all-star free fall seems to have been solved by a jury-rigged chute and some wide-eyed optimism. There will be none of that here, folks, we’ll save our positivity until we have a reason to display it.

Los Angeles Lakers (61-40, .604, 1st NL West) @ Montreal Wanderers (54-47, .535, 4th NL East)
So, Montreal has been worse than us in July (10-14) and their post-All-Star doldrums has been equally severe… until very recently when they swept the San Diego Chargers on the road and took a set off of the San Francisco Seals at home – they, unlike us, seem to have found a way to right the ship. Their recipe has been simple – solid, but not otherworldly hitting, paired with solid, but not otherworldly starting pitching, served with an out-of-sight Bullpen that ranks 2nd in the NL for ERA. In fact, 5 of their 7 relievers have a sub-2.50 ERA and all three of their lefties are in the midst of superb seasons. This is a good club – and one that would be a surefire playoff club in any other division… they also have 3 regulars who have hit 20+ homers (their 108 as a team ranks 2nd in the AL). So, yeah, a solid power alley with a lockdown bullpen – the exact kind of club that gives the La La’s fits…

102 of 162: Michael Brisk (8-7, 3.98) @ Ashton Hughes (6-6, 3.94)
Loss, 2-0
. Name another Lamborghini owner with an 8-8 record. You can’t, can you? No bother – it’s not your fault – it’s just that, Brisky, Mr. Cool Breeze, is the only one… He is neatly illustrating my failure as a GM and working hard to secure my head for Mr. Murray at the end of the season. Harlem Peterson was the biggest difference here – 1 for 3 with a HR and 2 RBIs. Well, him and the bullpen – who locked us down for three innings to close this one out.

Elsewhere: Xavier Pace of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Gavin Nalley of the Chicago Fire both hit GRAND SLAMS today… Xavier did it in a 10-5 win over the Chargers, while Gavin put his out of the park in a 15-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys… Also – trade deadline is tomorrow… I plan on standing firm and riding this ****-show into the abyss.

103 of 162: Newton Weiser (11-5, 2.95) @ Max Harrington (5-10, 4.33)
Win, 6-4
. A special note – Barbaccia has earned a save in 28 straight attempts, tonight would have been his 29th had he not blown it in the bottom of the 9th. Newton gave us 8 strong innings where he allowed 8 hits and only 2 earned runs and Dom Cooke played the hero at the top of the 12th when he put out a 2-run blast that put us up for good… PEPPER, Dontrell, Hamza, and Voorhis drive in our first four – and HAMZA pulled off this sweet feat – 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 sac bunt, 1 sac fly, and 1 stolen base. I feel like I should buy the guy a hotdog or something.

Elsewhere: Harlem Peterson was named the top hitter in the NL for July… good for him, he deserves it. LF Arthur McCready of the Green Bay Packers took the AL’s version of that trophy home - .336 with 10 jacks in July… CF Easton Thorn of the Nolanville ‘Nauts went 4 for 5 with a double, THREE HOMERS, 7 RBI, and 3 runs in their 17-6 win over the Hagerstown Hummers – Easton spent 8 years in the Houston Dynamo’s organization before spending time in Oakland (GOLDEN STATE), Pittsburgh, Montreal, New York, and Portland. This is his second stint in the Bush League and he’s currently batting .252 with 22 homers and 33 RBI.

104 of 162: Aiden Jensen (6-10, 5.32) @ Jaxson Mottola (6-10, 4.88)
Win, 6-5
. More heroics from DOM – 4 for 4 with a double, TWO HOMERS, 3 RBI, and a couple of runs for our suddenly red-hot catcher (don’t get too excited – he had another passed ball in this contest). Aiden looked wonderful – 9 K’s and only 3 earned in 7.1 innings of work, Ethan scored twice and drove two in, Barbaccia picked up his 27th save, another SAC FLY for Ethan, and three stolen bags as a unit (Otto, HAMZA, and O-MACK)… it’s nice to get a series win here and to start August off on the good fit – let’s hope that this is the start of something nasty.

Notes: Well… alright, alright, alright – we’ve moved back into the top three of the weekly power rankings and have maintained our 4-game lead over the Suns… We’ll head west to meet Orlando in our park for a 3-game set followed by 4 more at home against the SF Seals – in all we have ten straight home games coming up. We’ll need to put something nice together…

2077 Season (8/2 – 8/4)

Orlando City (53-52, .505, 5th NL East) @ Los Angeles Lakers (63-41, .606, 1st NL West)
City is a .500 club – they went 11-11 in April, 14-14 in June, and 13-13 in July. They are 5th or worse in every statistical category with the only outlier being strikeouts where they lead the MLB at 875 on the year – for comparison purposes, the 2nd place team is a full 25 K’s behind them. Their starters can deal – no doubt about it – the problem here is that their defense could use some work. A tune-up, new fielding gloves, or new personnel altogether may do the trick. Hard to say. Their other problem is that their lineup is power-starved – their 79 HRs so far in 2077 is good enough for 10th in the NL with only San Francisco and San Diego putting fewer balls out of the park. This club really hasn’t been very good since the 2074 season when they won 90 games and made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs – which, if you’re counting, lines up quite nicely with the arrival of their young, analytics-driven, GM Pop McMillian, who, 5 years into his career as a baseball man has yet to deliver any results – he’s a trade first and let the rest sort itself out kind of guy who is probably going to find himself in the unemployment line if he can’t guide this team into the playoffs for Owner Vinny Fan.

105 of 162: Mike Clendenin (6-6, 3.84) @ Paul Yeager (14-4)
Win, 5-3
. Yeager gave us 7 innings of 10-hit, 3-run ball and manages to get the win here despite allowing a 2-run blast in the top of the 7th to LF Otis Murry. Otto’s 2-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th frame put us up for good, Barbaccia notched his 28th Save, and Hamza recorded his 45th steal. A solid effort out of the La La’s tonight – we had to gut this one out, but, in the end, we're able to get it done… which, lately, hasn’t been the sort of thing we’ve been good for.

Elsewhere… in the CITY OF COMPTON: SP RAD TAYLOR pitched a complete game shutout over the Nashville Sounds – Rad improved his record to 6-8 and added 7 Ks to his season total of 95. This is Rad’s third straight pitching victory for Compton – he’s only allowed 5 runs in 24 innings of work bringing his ERA to a career-best 3.70 – let’s hope he can keep this up. I keep sticking my neck out for this kid, and if recent events are any indication, it may turn out to have been worth it after all. Compton’s only run in the game came off of a Tyrel Thomas solo homer in the top of the 1st… the 22-year old, 2nd year Compton Raider was our 8th round pick (199) in 2076 and looks to have a ceiling that puts him as a big-league backup or bush-league starter. Great infield arm, fantastic stealing ability, and little else for the youngster.

106 of 162: Radoslav Borovsky (5-3, 2.42) @ Dejuan Burns (8-8, 3.77)
Win, 5-3
. The last time we faced Radoslav he chewed us up. This time? Not so much. Voorhis got into a bit of a groove tonight – 2 for 5 with 2 homers, 4 ribbies, and 2 runs – including the game-winning, bottom of the 9th, WALK-OFF 2 RUN DING DONG… We also got a SAC BUNT from Hamza, steal #37 from Ethan, and a sweet Hong-Hamza-Hong double-play! Gotta love a yo-yo DP!

107 of 162: KJ Judd (4-8, 3.97) @ Michael Brisk (8-8, 3.88)
Loss, 3-1
. Unfortunate. That’s how I’d describe this loss. Brisky, in a nice bounce-back from his last outing, gave us 7.1 innings of 2-run ball and still took the L to fall below .500 for the season at 8-9. An RBI double from Otis Murry wins it for Orlando in a game where we can only be bothered to offer Brisk 1-run in support… Dom Cooke brought it in on a double, OH HONG struck out THREE times, and OTTO, HAMZA, and Voorhis went hitless.

Elsewhere… in the land of poor decision making: SP Jason Bangs of the Cincinnati Bengals (Green Bay’s affiliate) pitched a complete-game, 12-inning, 5-hit shutout in a 1-0 loss versus the Salem Silverbacks – I mean… why? Also, in the same game, SP Riley Valentine of the Salem Silverbacks (PDX affiliate) went 11-innings in a CG, 3-hit, shutout performance to secure the win (he also added 9 K’s)… it’s like the managers were engaged in some sadistic staring contest out there – hopefully, no permanent damage was done to these young arms… In the MLB – 3B Aldo Fernandez went 4 for 4 with 2 HRs, 2 RBIs, and 4 runs in the Minnesota North Stars EIGHTEEN-to-NADA victory over the Brooklyn Citizens… and, dig this – every starter batted in a run, they hit 5 homers as a club (three off of Brooklyn reliever Lino Marin alone) and had 6 2-out RBIs. Craziness.

Quick notes: Our lead over Phoenix is now down to 3 after they swept the Montreal Wanderers in a series where every game was decided on runs that came after the 7th and included a spectacular 3-run walk-off homer for SS Jess Alford in the sweep-clinching 3rd game – they won that one by a score of 10-9… oh, and every division outside of the AL West features a 1st place club trying desperately to hang on to a slim 3-game lead. But, in the AL West, where things are a bit more cut & dry, the Seattle Sounders have an 8 ˝ game lead over the Los Angeles Galaxy. We like that - helps our ticket sales.

4 against San Francisco next! They're terrible - which has never stopped us from dropping games that we shouldn't - and we're not all the way back to where we should be - so... hope we take at least three of them.

Is it better to burn out or fade away?

In Strangeverse, the send off for Derek Jeter has been less than glorious, if this is the send off that is... after Toronto declined to renew his contract during the 2076 offseason, Derek had a hard time finding a club that was willing to pay him to play baseball. It wasn’t until mid-May that Jeter was finally signed - the Houston Dynamo took a flier out and let him spend 38 games in Salt Lake to work out some kinks prior to promoting him to the big club where he played in 5 games (4 as a starter) before being released. He didn’t set the world on fire in Houston, but was serviceable enough - it’s just, well, the Dynamo brass weren’t interested in granting a victory lap to a guy who was only a shell of his former self. This, of course, is where the Bush League comes in... the Nolanville ‘Nauts convinced Jeets to join their club for the less than princely sum of $169k as a DH. In his first game flexing the neon blue and pink Nolanville kit, DJ went 1 for 3 with a run and a K. The ‘Nauts lost the game, but the bump in attendance should be more than worth the price they are paying.

Look, Derek is nearly 40 years old in this Verse and his overall rating is now in the 30’s so the fact that he isn’t on a sailboat somewhere in the Caribbean enjoying the company of a harem of supermodels and a Mai Tai is something of a surprise. A welcome surprise, sure, but an unlikely scenario nonetheless. I’ll be watching him as he plays out the remainder of his career in the BL and I have to think that he will wrap it up after 2077... the end of an era. The Bush League is fun like that - it’s been a weird mixture of a retirement league for fallen stars and a developmental league for the occasional serviceable player that did not hear his name called during the draft. And, while I’ve toyed with adding a few rounds to the draft pool & adding a 6-team Indy League with an age limit to supplement the Strangeverse development funnel, its moments like this that make me think that’s not such a great idea. It also reminds me that it’s been a while since I’ve imported a former, mid-level, fringe superstar into SV... I brought in John Kruk (he did okay), and Dave Winfield came through for what was a pretty ho-hum career... maybe it’s time to do that again. Maybe a Bo Jackson type, or even Jose Canseco could become draft eligible in 2078. Or a even a pitcher - Jamie Moyer maybe, or a Bartolo Colon... who knows.

Either way - with the run of the Jeter Bros nearly complete (Donny is still holding it down in the MLB), maybe it’s time to bring someone else through the multiverse to see what they can do in this world.
