Suggestion: AI player strategy

I've requested this before, but I really would love it if, in Commissioner mode, we could have an option to control player strategy on an AI team.

My request for this is that, though it's usually great, there have been times that I have seen the AI make moves that just don't make sense in the real world and take me out of the immersiveness.

An example would be a legendary veteran (let's say he has 10+ years with the same club) who has a high salary. This veteran is on the back nine of his career and his OVR has dropped to a state where he is just another guy ratings-wise. The AI has a guy who is a journeyman and just a few ratings points higher and the legend gets benched.

I understand the thinking behind "the best player should be the one who plays", but this doesn't happen in real life. If the legend was a 20 and the replacement was a 60, then yes, obviously. But if the legend is a 38 OVR and the replacement is a 45, there is no way a major league club would bench him.

I love the immersiveness and stories that I build for my fictional league and these are the times that I like to interfere as Commissioner and I would like to be able to lock a player into a role (at least until the season is over), but the AI changes it as soon as I advance a day.

It shouldn't necessarily be something that everyone should be able to do, but if we want to go to Commissioner mode, then why not? We can do almost anything else.

Would this be too difficult to put into the coding?

Markus, Matt, Lukas?

Would be a difficult thing to do? Or would that be something that you would just not want to do?

I like that suggestion. I've seen that happen too and it's tough.

I'm assuming if you "act as" the team in commissioner mode and then click on the player to set that player strategy, once you no longer act as the team the fictional GM overrides you?

Hmmm. Makes me wonder if the AI is aware enough to play the aging star if he is Very Popular and the other guy is Insignificant, considering the impact to morale and fan support/merchandise/tickets etc. Haven't payed close enough to attention to know.

I would like this as well. I personally think it’s just a case of the AI placing too much value on young guys over vets. It’s been that way for a few versions now.

That is correct. The GM essentially overrides any decision you make on a team you don't currently control.

I honestly think more often than not, it's simply the OVR player rating.

If the younger less popular guy is like 5 OVR points higher (on a 20/80 scale) for the same position, the AI treats it as a no brainer.

Obviously, I understand every AI has limitations. You can't expect it to look in the past history and check how many all-star appearances or gray ink the guy had. That's why I'd like this feature. To help the AI out in areas where the immersiveness came up short.

I prefer that the AI field the best team possible. Maybe, you can trade for the player so the vet can finish his career on your team.

I had no problem messing with this in commissioner mode as I had a for sure HOF player and the AI kept trying to bench him and he was still going strong in favor of a young player. I messed with his injury settings and the MGR setting and he was able to play more then he went FA but that team played him and started him

I want the game to be as real-life as possible. How foolish would it be if in OOTP two years ago, the AI Red Sox benched David Ortiz if they acquired a better player at DH (if there was one). For you, you're just looking for a challenge, but I'd have trouble getting over that because that would NEVER happen in real life and that's what I'm looking for...realism.

That's all well and good if it's my own team, but I'm talking about a different team. I'm just asking for a lock button in Commissioner mode that would lock the decision in for a limited time, maybe until the end of the season
