Handicapping the competition
It seems like the AI doesn't recognize extensions. I was playing as the Mariners and I gave one of my average players an 8yr 160M extension. I then traded him to the Angels and, because they haven't cut him, have been terrible since. With 20M/yr less for the budget, this makes it impossible for them to sign any good players.
The AI should recognize more than the current contract in dealing with trades. Last edited by cooluu; 06-29-2011 at 07:13 PM. |

Cutting him would have required the team to eat the entire remainder of the contract all at once. How many years were left? Most teams don't have $20M in payroll to spare for a dump like that, let alone multiple $20M's.
Ideally, the AI should have never accepted the player trade in the first place. Last edited by Nighthawk42; 06-30-2011 at 03:16 PM. Reason: Expanded thoughts. |

The team accepted the trade because the current year's contract was only 400k. The extension, however, was 20M/year. Because the AI only recognized the current contract of 400k, the "overpaid veteran" message did not show up and the AI accepted the trade.
