Taking advantage of players
Player A wants 5 million/year for 3 years.
I offer him 4.5 million/year for 4 years. His counter offer is 4.5 million/year for 3 years I then offer 4 million/year for 4 years He counter offers 4 million/year for 3 years I eventually settle on a contract for 2.5 million/year for 3 years (he started with great morale and ended as very unhappy) When the player is set on a certain number of years, in this case 3, you can lower his demands pretty significantly. This is useful for meeting a budget, but it is very unrealistic. |

We always try to improve the AI, maybe the toughest part of a game to get right. The AI in iOOTP is the same as in OOTP (PC/Mac), so any improvements there will find its way into iOOTP at some point.

It seems like it doesn't work as well with established players

I've been able to do something similar, but for large contracts I almost cut the demand by 50%.
Say, Zach Greinke is looking for a 5 year/17 M per year contract. I offer a 3 yr/9M per year contract. He returns with some negotiating of his own - the usual "I've got other interested teams - if you're interested in signing me then you better up your offer." So, I up the offer to 3 YR / 11M per season and after more negotiating I end up signing him to a 3 year/12.5M per year contract. Then again, I've had some negotiating fall to the player. I started a fictional league and was interested in signing a FA first basemen during the off season. He wanted 3 YR/6M per season. I offered him a 1 YR/3M deal. After some back and forth negotiating he received some better offers that increased his asking price to 4.3M per season. However, he was very adamant about two years. So, I caved and offered him the 2 YR/4.3M per season deal. He accepted. Shortly after wards, he was traded for a prospect or two. |
