How are position ratings capped?

I've noticed that fielders gain additional position rating the more innings they play at a particular position, up to a point. Typically this is for players at a position other than their highest-rated, although I think I have seen outfielders gain slightly at their primary position.

Does anyone know what the formula or cap on increase is? It seems like it might be related to arm and error ratings, but in some cases the position rating exceeds arm/error/range, so it's not like the cap is an obvious derivative of those.

One thing you can do is download the OOTP 11 demo, turn off scouting and check the ratings that way (since they're editable in the desktop version of the game).

A simple guideline, though, is:

1B requires a non-horrific rating at all 4 infield ratings.

2B requires high double play rating, followed by range and glove ability. Arm is the least important for 2B.

3B requires arm mostly, with glove and range being relatively important, as well.

SS requires every skill to be at a high rating.

LF requires every skill at a passable level.

CF focuses more on range and glove than arm.

RF is more on arm than anything else.

Every time a player plays a game at a position, they get 1 point in their experience in that position (can only be seen in the editor, so it can't be accessed in iOOTP). Experience is capped at 200, and a player's experience rating combines with a certain formula that is put in place per position to make their rating at that position. If a player has high infield ratings, they could already be around a 15 or 16 as a first baseman even with a 50 or 60 in experience.

That pretty much confirms what I thought, but lots of extra info. Thanks!

I'm new to the OOTP universe. Can someone tell me what the colors represent in the, 'Position Ratings View'? Is this how you can see if someone has increased their ratings by the color? Or somewhere else?

Thanks

Colors are basically a heat-map of how strong their ratings are. Red = bad, orange = poor, yellow = mediocre, green = fair, teal = strong, blue = outstanding.

Thanks. Is this in the manual somewhere, or just sort of a 'should know' thing?
