unsignable players

In my altered NHL history line I have started to see some unsignable players who aren't on contracts from the WHL and don't appear to have been drafted by other teams so that I'd have to trade for their rights. These are some very good players (Charlie Gardiner, Babe Siebert, Ace Bailey) that I'd like to see in the NHL.
Any idea what might be the problem?

What year are you in? Those guys are all 1903-04 birth years, so they may not have gone through the draft yet.

I'm in the 1931-32 season. Each of those guys are in their mid twenties and I thought they had been drafted but I don't see a record of that.

In their edit screen, check how the NHL league rights are set - I'm guessing it's set to "None", if so change that to "Free" and they'll be signable. But assuming that's the case, I'd still like to have a look at that save if you can upload it - I want to see how they wound up that way, since their rights should've been sent to free as soon as they went undrafted (although it's odd that players that good would've been ignored, so I'm wondering if there's some unusual complication in their career history that explains it.)

Changing status from none to free did the trick.

However I have zipped the .dat files for that saved game if you want to have a look at how they came to be that way.

I think I see the problem. Was this a July 1 start in 1924-25? That's left the rights empty for the players who would've been eligible for a July 1924 draft. Should be easy to fix if that's it.
