This is a league that you cannot miss! We are still taking applications, even while we have a full set of GMs! If an opening comes up, don't miss your chance to pilot one of PEBA's 26 history-filled franchises!

We are now entering the 2028 playoffs, and lots of storylines are developing :

Here are the Best-of-5 "Wild Card Series" situation in both leagues ... Imperial and Sovereign :

------------------------------------

- The Scottish Claymores, a 99-loss team last season, has found new light under new GM Vic Caleca. The team's performance turnaround has been swift, and they have now qualified for the Imperial League Wild Card series against the Arlington Bureaucrats, itself led by newbie GM Justin Barker. When Barker came in in late-May, he thought he would have to go to a full rebuild. But, after some clever moves at the deadline, he had a shot at the playoffs! Could the new kids on the block shock the establishment?

- The Sovereign League Wild Card Series will feature the Neo-Tokyo Akira as the higher seed, led by long-time GM Ron Hiscock. The Akira gets it's first chance to show off it's newly-developed squad of young talent. The team spent the last half-decade building it's farm team for this moment, and they are backed by 26-year-old pitcher Jose Fernandez, Aussie veteran Luigi Bright, and the slugging provided by 24-year-old phenom Tomas Martinez. This squad of young guns looks dangerous!

Facing them in the Wild Card Series is unstoppable pitching machine the Bakersfield Bears! ..led by returning GM Dan Vail, the rotation features heavyweight names such as Maes, Womack and Littleworth, and the 44 saves of closer Sadakuno Nakagawa.

If Dan and the Bears succeed, he will face his brother Kevin and his defending PEBA champion Shin Seiki Evas in the first ever all-sibling series in the SL Division round!

------------------------------------

To get you all caught up, open up the HTML Report, and catch the latest episode of 'PEBAcast' , previewing the full PEBA Post-Season!

------------------------------------

For those wondering, we are switching to OOTP 20 after this season! Migration to the new version is expected in late-May or early-June

Update :

Both Wild Card series go to a deciding 5th game!

Imperial League
Scotland (96-66, GM Vic Caleca) vs Arlington (84-78, GM Justin Barker)

vs

Thanks to recently-acquired right-fielder José Guillén's 3-for-5 performance with 4 RBI in game 4, the Claymores tie up the 'all-rookie-GM' series 2-2!

The Bureaucrats looked like a well-oiled machine at first, as they took games 1 and 3 with fabulous pitching performances from veteran Motoyuki Hatsutori and unlikely blue-collar workhorse Roberto Camacho!

To counter, Scotland was able to put together two wins of their own on evenings 2 and 4, both scored 7-4, by letting star outfielder José Guillén do his thing! So far this series, the ex-Kalamazoo Badger has hit .375 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI!

As the deciding Game 5 arrives, will Scotland's league-leading offense led by Guillen power though, or will Arlington's stellar pitching get it done? Which rookie GM, Vic or Justin, moves on to the Division Series?? Stay tuned!

---

Sovereign League
Neo-Tokyo (95-67, GM Ron Hiscock) vs Bakersfield (94-68, GM Dan Vail)

vs

The Sovereign League Wild Card has been all pitching so far.

Runs are at a premium in the Sovereign League Wild Card series! Neo-Tokyo, arguably the league's youngest competitive team, has shown that their pitching can pair up with the best, as their starters have captured 'player of the game' honors in all but one of the games so far. In games 1, 3 and 4, Fernandez, Fererira and Ramos got the nods respectively, and won 2 games so far.

Despite this, Bakersfield, which is well-known for it's unstoppable pitching, has also been very efficient in the series. On 2 of the 4 nights (with Watson and Womack starting), the team eked out a win. The problem with the Bears has been offense, which the team has little. In 4 games, they have only scored more than 3 runs once...

Can Ron get his epic rebuild to the next level? Or will Dan ride his pitching staff to glory and face his brother Kevin in the Division Series? The deciding Game 5 is coming up!

Playoff Update #2 :

The Claymores and Akira move on!

Imperial League Wild Card Series - Elimination Game
Arlington 3, Scotland 6

Ogawa, Ogawa, Ogawa!

Claymores starter Soichiro Ogawa continues the season of his life with the clutch GAME of his life, as he struck out 7 in a solid 7+ inning performance to power his Claymores to the Division Series!

Ogawa's career up until this season has been shaky and difficult in the big show : the pudgy, hard-throwing Japanese right-hander had only put up a 7-23 record and a horrid 5.71 ERA over his first 4 major league seasons with the Claymores, but he came alive in 2028, finishing the season 18-7 (thus nearly tripling his career win total), along with a 4.10 ERA and 123 K's!

Arlington, meanwhile, did all they could to keep up but eventually fell short. However, several players shone in the series, such as mid-season acquisition Sean Peters, an outfielder, who batted an impressive .421 in the Wild Card Series! Despite the defeat, Arlington will be retaining most of their players for the 2029 season and could end up being a force again.

---

Sovereign League Wild Card Series - Elimination Game
Bakersfield 4, Neo-Tokyo 5

Neo-Tokyo's veterans came through, with of course some help from their youth movement at crunch time, to edge out the Bakersfield Bears 5-4 in a thrilling final game!

The game leaned back and forth in the early innings until the bottom of the 4th, when, trailing 4-3, veteran Akira players Ramiro Reynoso and B.J. Gassaway scored, having been pushed along by a string of hits from a series of youngsters to get them around the bases. The team was then able to hold the 5-4 lead the rest of the game.

On Bakersfield's side, starter and 19-game-winner Neil Maes had a moderate start, allowing 9 hits, 5 earned runs and striking out 5, but it proved to be just short of a win. The Bears, which only managed 6 hits all game, once again had trouble getting the bats moving. But, with new management thanks to GM Dan Vail, things are looking up and the team will no doubt be a dangerous one in 2029, as they will look to beef up the offense to pair it up with their lethal pitching staff. Keep an eye on this team next year!

... And then there were four!

For those unfamiliar with PEBA, one thing that is near and dear to fans' hearts is the fact that the Imperial League and Sovereign League have no interleague play! A throwback to the major leagues of yesteryear! Back when being a member of your league mattered!

well, the League Championship Series are here in both the Imperial and Sovereign Leagues! Here are the candidates :

Imperial League Championship Series

#2 West Virginia (94-68, GM Greg Abcarian) vs WC Scotland (96-66, GM Vic Caleca)

vs

Sovereign League Championship Series

#3 Fargo (90-73, GM Cristian Shofar) vs WC Neo-Tokyo (95-67, GM Ron Hiscock)

vs

This is the year of the upsets! Believe it or not, NONE of these teams have won a PEBA championship before! Who will be able to get to glory in 2028?!?

If you want to be a part of PEBA, you know where to find us! Fill out an application and we will contact you when a team becomes available!

Update #4 : Wild Cards eliminated, Fargo and West Virginia advance!

Two 'Cinderella' stories were eliminated in one swoop, as the hard-hitting Claymores and youthful Akira were eliminated in the League Championship Series!

Here is how the series went :

Imperial League Championship Series

West Virginia 4, Scotland 3

vs

The two most potent offenses in the Imperial League went head-to-head, very appropriately, for the League Championship!

West Virginia, led by long-time GM Greg Abcarian, built up a hard-hitting, fast-moving contender with pitching to boot. 3B Alejandro Lujan and 1B Brad Davis provides the offense, while veteran starters Clayton Lewis and Oniji Yokoyama provides the pitching. But, the depth doesn't stop there : the Alleghenies minor league system is the stuff of dreams : all four of their teams in the minors finished at the top of their division simultaneously in 2028!

Meanwhile, the remarkable turnaround story of the Scottish Claymores, led by enthusiastic rookie GM Vic Caleca, was the opponent. Despite their role as underdogs, having lost 99 games just a season ago, the Claymores had some serious offensive might, built up over the course of the season, as they led the I.L. in runs scored with 736. The current slugging star of the Claymores is mid-season acquisition Don Mercer, pried away from Duluth, who finished the season with 39 homers and 110 RBIs!

West Virginia won the first game behind a good pitching performance from Lewis, but then the Claymores offense hit overdrive, out-scoring the Alleghenies 21-11 over the next three games to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

However, West Virginia fought back. Clayton Lewis allowed only 1 run and 2 hits in a game 4 win, then West Virginia shut down the Claymores offense, winning three straight games convincingly 4-1, 11-1 and 3-2, to come out ahead after 7 games!

West Virginia, which has only won 1 playoff series in it's history (a wild card series in 2024 vs Kentucky) will now experience the bright lights of the Finals for the first time! It is worth noting, however, that GM Abcarian is no stranger to elite competition, as he made three finals appearances in the Japanese League won two league championships for Fushigi Yigi in 2010 and 2018 before taking over the Alleghenies a few years later!

As the team arrives in the biggest series of all, their weakness has been injures : no fewer than 10 players are currently on the disabled list! That minor league depth might come in handy, as they try to clinch their first title.

Sovereign League Championship Series

Fargo 4, Neo-Tokyo 2

vs

Over in the Sovereign League, both teams were in uncharted territory.

The higher-ranked team in the matchup was the Fargo Dinosaurs, led by GM Cristian Shofar. Through thick and thin, Cristian has led Fargo for 21 seasons now, dating back to 2008; PEBA's second season.

Although the Dinosaurs qualified for the post-season 4 times over the years, they had never won a series until this year, and had recently been in a 10-year playoff drought. However, over the last 5 seasons, clever moves and an eye for a balanced team have crept the Dinos up the standings to the point of qualifying for the playoffs this year, and now, for the first time ever, to the finals! The team's leader is the oldest player in the league at the moment .. their DH, 43-year-old Rob Raines! Although no doubt in the twilight of his career, Raines is still playing for keeps, and is looking to add a second title to his name before he hangs em up!

Meanwhile, their opponent is the 'youth brigade' of the Neo-Tokyo Akira!

The team, led by long-time GM Ron Hiscock, initially made their name in the LRS, the same Japanese League that featured West Virginia's GM. Ron and the Akira also won two Japanese titles during their time there, in 2012 and 2017. However, as the league was absorbed by PEBA in 2021, Neo-Tokyo had an uphill battle adapting a Japanese roster for the big leagues. So, rather than aiming for instant wins, Ron Hiscock instead furiously stockpiled young prospects over the first half-dozen seasons in the league, looking to win long-term. During this time, the team lost 100+ games in 4 of their 5 first seasons.

However, in 2028, things began to seriously pay off.

The Akira nearly equaled the Claymores' offensive production, and is led by outfielder Tomas Martinez, who hit 31 home runs and 105 RBI this season! 20-game winner Jose Fernandez anchors the rotation on the mound.

The series was a back-and-forth affair, as Fargo won the first three games, then the Akira responded with 2 playoff wins of their own, and game 6 not only went down to the wire, but went into extra innings with Fargo squeaking the win in 13 innings to clinch the series!

Fittingly, 'Old Man Rob Raines' was named MVP of the series!

As both teams reach uncharted territory, it will be exciting to see how the Fargo vs West Virginia series plays out! Stay tuned

Update #5 : Fargo Dinosaurs crowned 2028 PEBA Champs!

Turns out, the Fargo Dinosaurs, led for a 21st season by GM Cristian Shofar, not only won their first ever playoff series, they won ALL their playoff series!

The Dinos made it past the youthful Neo-Tokyo Akira 4-games-to-2 in the Sovereign League Championship, and faced the formidable West Virginia Alleghenies in the finals, led by veteran GM Greg Abcarian.

Despite West Virginia winning game 1 of the finals, the Dinosaurs stormed back with 4 straight wins, 7-5. 7-3, 5-3 and 8-5 to capture their first ever PEBA title!

The team's young outfielder Lorenzo Castanieda was named Finals MVP, while the ageless legend Rob Raines was the MVP of the League Championship, aged 43! Word on the street is that Raines, who turns 44 next September, has no plans to retire yet!

Congrats to GM Cristian Shofar for a fantastic season!

BREAKING NEWS : PEBA Expands, one of the new teams is looking for a GM!

The Charleston Statesmen, one of the teams rejoining PEBA in 2029!

Exciting news coming from the PEBA offices as we reach the offseason : PEBA is expanding from 26 to 28 teams!

The rumor mill had been going for a few weeks during the post-season, but finally it was official : The Manchester Maulers and Charleston Statesmen were rejoining PEBA!

With the announcement, the Manchester Maulers announced they hired their new GM Steven Palps, and the search is now on for Charleston's GM! The team was previously in PEBA from 2007 to 2023, becoming champions twice, before breaking away into a rebel league, the World Independent League. After 5 seasons with unfavorable finances in the new league, Charleston returns to PEBA! You can read more about the team's history here.

Unique rebuild opportunity

Unlike traditional expansion, there is no expansion draft. Charleston will instead retain it's WIL rosters : 40 active, and 25 reserve.

In PEBA, the team will gain 4 affiliate minor league teams (AAA, AA, Single-A and Short-A), and the team's players will be scattered throughout all levels. The rest will be filled by Free Agents (Major and Minor League), the Rule 5 Draft, and a special extended Amateur Draft during the 2029 season which will give the two new teams a total of 30 selections (instead of the traditional 15). If you are interested in a total build from scratch, the tools are put in place for you to do just that!

What about the major league team, you ask? The team will be given a budget boost from 73 to 120 million. This, topped with the team's light payroll means you can go on a major free agent signing spree this off-season!

If you are interested in this unique challenge, make sure to reach out to us and fill out an application!!
