Recording of LSU HC & Kansas assistant not allowed to be admitted into evidence. The defense claimed the recording suggested a discussion about paying recruits. The tape supposedly included discussions of getting ZIon Williamson's (last year's most popular blue chip) father a job & housing.

Interesting. Then he had a change of heart and went to Duke for free, I suppose.

So when do the coaches' trials begin? This is the 1st domino. You can bet the small fishes are going to turn on the whales.

The verdicts by definition mean there’s been a finding of fact that the schools were victims.

Now that doesn’t bind the NCAA.

SMH. Again, as I say often, the law & common sense are 2 entirely different things.

I figure that. But I've been hoping so much dirt gets dug up that it causes sweeping changes in the NCAA model. If the programs get portrayed as victims, its going to be harder for reform to take place.

I agree with all of that.

KU is withholding Silvio from competition now. This is their “out.” He was cleared last season by MCAA. Now that they can’t say they didn’t know he was given impermissible benefits, I suspect he’ll be released eventually unless the NCAA somehow says he can play.

Didn't Memphis get in trouble because Derrick Rose was found to be ineligible even though the NCAA had cleared him?

I don't remember the exact details, but I don't think he was "cleared" the way I'm talking about. His was a cheated SAT score if I am recalling correctly. The only thing I really remember from that team is Mario Chalmers' miracle shot on the "chop" play.

The thing with DeSouza is that the NCAA specifically said in regard to amateur status "play him. he's eligible." That's different in terms of equities. Conversely, they didn't say that with Billy Preston which resulted in him leaving the team because Kansas wouldn't play him until the NCAA gave the same assurance.

Again, I have no way of predicting what the NCAA will or won't do, but they specifically addressed Silvio's status as an amatuer. Given that a federal court itself found the exact same thing that Kansas maintains, I think the NCAA would have a hard time going against it's own statements. A primary principle in law, which would presumably apply to the NCAA, is that an organization such as the NCAA has to at least follow its own rules in dealing with members.

Now, prospectively, I think Silvio is done with college ball. But again, we shall see.

This would normally be true. But I remember w/UNC's troubles, the chairman that was in charge of the disciplinary committee told the investigators their charges weren't hard enough & ordered them to come w/more serious charges. So, despite acting as judge, he put himself in charge of the prosecutors.

So the execs got 9, 6 & 6 months in a minimum security prison of their own choosing. They could have received as much as 3-5 yrs. I think the judge told the NCAA what he thinks of their rules & the feds what he thought of them bringing up the charges.

What does it say when the 2 players involved were essentially banned from college basketball & the people administering the bribes don't even get sent to jail for a full collegiate year?

Cobra, I'd imagine you might've seen this considering your interest in the subject, but have you seen SB Nation's youtube documentary about the recent Ole Miss situation? Very much worth a watch if you haven't.

I'll check it out. That was a huge mess when I was reading about it. But I wasn't surprised when Ole Miss was caught. I think all major programs are dirty. I think all of the SEC is super dirty (maybe not Vandy). And I thought the Rebs were super-duper dirty.
