OK, thanks steve. I respect and appreciate that. EDIT: I wanted to point out that I did a COMPLETE reformat of the HD. I deleted partitions and the created another, re-installed Windows XP Pro, downloaded all updates for every card (audio/video, ect). This did not help either. Until recently. My game worked perfectly, both version 5 and 6, that is until I downloaded Directx 9.c and the Microsoft service pack and now both my games crash everytime with the sound on. From what I have seen and read in these forums it hardly seems to be rare that the game is crashing. This is really trying my patience at this time.

I deem that the crash of v6.11 is only being posted by a few(currently on the fron page of the troubleshooting forum there are 3 or 4 threads which mention a crash) and so out of 1,000's of copies of the game in use I'd say that is rare. I have personally tried to recreate most if not all of these w/o success. In the programming world if you can't reproduce the problem it makes it all that much harder to find a solution. I have passed the link to several of these crash topics to Markus and hopefully that will help him.....but atleast in some of these cases I'd say that the problem isn't the program.
I don't know that we can do much more than we are curently doing, I apologize for the problems and hopefully they will be corrected soon.

Steve, have you updated to SP2 yet (assuming you have win xp)?
If not, then that may be why you have yet to encounter this issue. EDIT: I am wondering if it is a SP2 problem or JUST a direct9.0c issue (although I think SP2 installs direct9.0c). Last edited by Deitrus; 11-06-2004 at 11:43 PM. |

No and I have no plans to anytime soon due to so many programs that had/have problems with it.......I'd recommend that all do likewise.

Hmm, maybe the real solution is to reformat the HD again and then only update to sp1.

I thought about this and I have many other games that require direct 9.0c to be installed. So I will not be reformating agian. The thing is that I have no issues with any other software. I have the following;
PC Applications: * Office Pro 2003 * Microsoft Works Suite * 3D-Studio MAX 6 Pro * Paint Shope Pro 8 * Photoshop 7 & CS * Adobe Audition 1.5 * Alcohol 120% * Nero Burning Ultra Edition 6.19 Games: * Rome: Total War (version 1.1) * Total Pro Football (version 1.41) * Super Power 2 * NASCAR Racing Season 2003 * Battlefield 1942 * Operation Flashpoint (w/all expansions) * Century of warefare * Medal Of Honor (w/all expansion packs) * Call of Duty * World War II Online * GTA III None of these "appear" to have any issues with 9.0c (except for OOTP6). |

I'm not convinced it is a DirectX 9c issue as I have that installed and have no problems at all.

I can now confirm that this is NOT a SP2 issue or a directx9.0c issue. I did a complete reformat today *again* and I installed just SP1 with directx9.0b and I still get the crashing issue, HOWEVER, it is not as much.
Steve, Markus needs to look as this a bit closer. This is not a SP2 issue. |

Guys, I may have found a work around. Try this in a test league to be safe.
Leave all options enabled (menu animation, interface sound & INCLUDING game sound & internal browser). After you are done playing out your game do not click on the screen but immediately click the minimize button (which looks like this - ) in the top right hand of the screen. Let OOTP6 do its thing. Allow for the internal browser to pop-up (while you are on the desktop). Then allow for the hard drive to stop generating the reports (which it does by itself via the game *OOTP6*). It will save the reports and then go to the schedule screen all by it-self. Click on OOTP to maximize the screen and you should be fine. Try this out and then let me know if this worked. Good luck. |

Well after testing this (the work around posted above), it has crashed 3 out of 10 times. Still not good enough to use because the risk is there where it may corrupt your league.

For me it is either a directX issue or a SP2 issue, Both my versions of OOTP (5&6) with all the latest patches were working perfectly with sound on before I downloaded SP2 and DirectX9.0c and ever since, both versions of OOTP 5 and 6 now crash with the sound on at the completion of a game. They work fine with the sound off. One thing I always thought was weird before I started having these problems was at the completion of the game in both 5 and 6, even though the game itself wouldnt crash (This was previous to my D/L SP2 and DX9.0c) I would get a browser crash everytime if I tried to access the internet when I had finished playing a solo game.

I have neither and still have the crash. It is not a SP2 or a directx9.0c issue. I did a complete reformat (deleted partitians, did a clean instal of windows xp pro, ect) and then I updated but to SP1 & Directx9.0b ONLY. I still crashed. As I have said, I believe it is not a SP2 or a directx9.0c issue, however, I still believe that its a directx issue just not sure which version because it almost seems as if Markus didnt use the lastest version of the Directx9.0 SDK package. |
