Isolating the Trading Problem

The problem with the trades crashing in the Career 2004 league that the game comes with, and in other various leagues I have creates, seems only to happen when:

One clicks the Trade Players box on the top
They choose the team that they wish to trade with.
They click Add Player
And they left click to scout the player and check his ratings.

Adding the player to the trade is fine, as is making the trade. It is simply scouting the players on either team while in the trade menu that makes the game crash. It says:

Ootp6 has caused an error in OOTP6.EXE
Ootp6 will now close.

No idea whether anyone is looking into it yet. I think I read at least one other person besides us with the same issue.

I haven't tried with any rosters outside CBLs, perhaps its a roster issue and not a game one? Which roster set are you using?

I'm using the CBL rosters as well, and no problems with that here.

Sometimes when I add players to a trade(historical league) the game will freeze and I have to exit using ctrl-alt-del.

The same occurs for me using Win98SE.

Additionally, it happens when trying the following:

Click |Trade Players|
Click |Add Player| from own team
Left click to scout player

Usual error & close.

It arises both with a converted O5 league and a custom league.

Yeah, this is a pretty nasty little bug.

Makes trading process very tedious. Do note that once you do right-click to add a player to the trade screen you CAN then click on the name and scout normally.

You just can't left click from the player select screen.

Hi All,

I've got the same problem re: trading. It is not a roster issue, as I have gotten it while working both the 2004 career league and CBL v2. Using right click to select a player works, using the left click crashes, regardless of league.

Reviewing the error, it indicates the problem is a conflict or error in the COMCTL32.DLL module. I'm running Win98SE, 1.0ghz, 512MB.

The COMCTL32.DLL on my system is version 5.81, time-stamped 8/29/02. Just wondering if those not getting this error might be using a more recent version of the file.

With the right click solution, the bug is not a kille, but certainly a pain if you forget.

C'mon guys, there has got to be something cooking. I can't believe this one slipped by the beta-testers <grin>

Mike,

I have a very similar setup to yours and my file is the same version (5.81 - 8/29/02)

Is anyone not using windows 98 getting this particular bug?

So, when clicking on a player that you want to trade you have to use the right key on the mouse?? Any way to change that to the left?

I don't think so.
The left click opens the scouting screen as it normally would anywhere else in the game. (Except that in the trade players window it causes a crash as well)
