Wow!
They suspect he was murdered too. "Former champion Arturo Gatti has been found dead in northeastern Brazil on Saturday, several media outlets are reporting. Gatti, 37, was on a second honeymoon with his wife and 10-month-old baby, the CBC reported. Gatti's blood-stained body was found in an apartment in Porto de Galinhas, Brazilian police say. A police investigation is underway and foul play is suspected, the CBC reported. Gatti was found in his underwear, with blood stains on his neck and the back of his head around 6 a.m. Saturday morning, the CBC reported." Wow...what a shame. A guy who seemed like he'd overcome prior demons. One of my favorites.

R.I.P. Thunder.
Arturo gave me some of the greatest thrills as a fight fan. He was a warrior and one of the bravest, toughest fighters out there. |

I was scrolling down the OOTP sections and saw this thread...I thought, "This can't be."
RIP Arturo. Wow. What a great, great fighter. If anybody truly deserved a peaceful and prosperous retirement... I'm trying to hold back the tears...

This was a shock to me. I just returned from the home opener for the Toronto Argonauts, and before I came home I stopped off at work (just across the street), and was floored by the news of Arturo's death, as apparently our station broke the story.
I met Arturo a little over a year ago at a fight card in Montreal, and we spoke, and he told me that he was hoping to get into the promotional side of the sport.

Thanks man. I made the four-hour ride from CT to the Boardwalk in Atlantic City a couple of times, including Ward II. Nothing like seeing the AC skyline in the distance knowing you were going to get a show. I'm still shocked. I never even met the guy, but still, it's just not a good feeling.

Wow, absolutely shocked about this. RIP Champ. What a terrible week for boxing, first Alexis Arguello, then Johnny Caldwell, now Arturo Gatti.

I am watching the Agbeko/Darchinyan fight (replay, but I didn't get to see the first showing..lol) when I saw the announcement on Show Box. Gatti was the Warrior's Warrior. He always gave his all whenever he was out there. On top of that, when he got older, he had the intelligence and skills to reinvent himself, which is something you don't see often. Arturo was one of the most entertaining fighters of our generation!
My prayers go out to the Gatti family in this dark time in their lives. |
