promoting players

how is the easiest way to bring a pitcher up from the minors if your pitching staff is lacking, in my case in the department of relief I seem to be lacking so i need to add an additional relief

The easiest way is to click and drag the guy you want to the active roster on the Rosters & Transactions page. Assuming you currently have a full roster though, you will need to demote someone first to make room.

how do you do that when only one team is displayed at a time? or can you change that?

On my Rosters & Transactions screen I have six different "boxes" for teams. From left to right and top to bottom I usually set them as:

Active roster 40-man roster AAA roster

AA roster A+ roster Injured list

There is a drop down for every section to set which team or roster set that you want displayed there

When I started my first saved game recently, the 1981 Yankees, I had 9 boxes laid out like that. Obviously, it has something to do with how many minor league teams are affiliated with your MLB team.

1080p with standard text size and you can fit 9 tiles on that screen. keep the most active tiles in teh top rows and the last couple tiles you swap out if 9 isn't enough.

text size may not cause fewer tiles, but it will cause fewer readeable chacters in each tile. more truncation

the important players i typically promote this way after reviewing their ratings development.

the bulk players that aren't so good i only promote at the beginning of the year. if you do that sort of thing where large portions of players remain where they are for 1-2 years at a time or you use MiL age or service time rules, you may want to try to "List all Players" -> subcategory of all minor league players. use some filters/views to select for each level so you can easily cycle through them. select many players at once sorted by age/service time and easily right-click to promote.

Even filling position gaps not related to service time or age promotiions, this screen is very useful. easier to flip between each level and you can see entire team sorted by all sorts of options -- like position, age, service time.

custom views help too. heck, you can split it up between batting/pitching too.. i find that's easier and reduces how many columns i like to see for each type of player on one screen without getting too scrinched.

Does monitor size determine how many boxes appear on the screen?

It's your screen resolution that matters most. The higher the resolution, the most possible windows. However, they will start appearing smaller and smaller if you put too many on the same screen.

OOTP 21 has some awesome new feature(s) that is going to give us more customization options, which I can't wait to use.
