Historical Evolution

I know that my historical league will expand and the team names/city moves will happen according to history. but there are a few things I have not experienced yet because I haven't gotten that far.....

I just want to confirm the game will automatically implement free agency during the correct year as long as the proper auto-adjust league financials every year box is checked?

Also what about the DH rule?

Draft pick compensation?

Free agency will implement automatically after the 1976 season, the DH in 1973. Draft pick compensation begins with the dawn of free agency in 1976, though if I recall correctly it took a few years longer for it to be implemented in the real world.

So, does this mean I can ignore the "contract signed until xxxx" date on my player profile for a league I'm starting in 1961? Do I still have the reserve clause?

No, draft pick compensation was there from the start. However, the free agency system (including compensation) worked differently back then. It didn't take on its more 'modern' form until after the 1985 season. (And which was changed again in the most recent Basic Agreement.)

Do I have to deal with free agency in 1961?

You shouldnt. Just check your league set up and see if "enable reserve clause era..." is checked.

why does FA start in 76, I thought it would begin in 74 or 75 based on the Curt Flood and Mike Marshall issues

Because Curt Flood lost his case. Players didn't win the battle until Andy Messersmith and Dave McNally were granted free agency by an arbitrator on December 23, 1975. This cleared the way for free agency to effectively begin in 1976.

No, that setting updates only your financial modifiers for things like salaries and revenue. The free agency settings are always separate, so you can turn on free agency or leave it off.
