Possible bug? New York players
I'm not sure if anyone else is seeing this but in my current fictional game that I created after the patch today, I am seeing something odd. Currently out of 62 pages of American players, 19 full pages of them are from New York (New York.) This seem way out of line considering other major cities like Chicago and Los Angeles have about a half a page of players each.
Something weird just with this one league? I'm not sure. |

Dunno then. Thought maybe someone accidentally added an extra digit when changing from the txt to xml files or something.
Maybe Markus overtweaked it while working on the new world database interaction. Hopefully he'll take a look. |

I'm not sure it's just New York:
I just quick-simmed to the draft... 1050 players in the draft - Chicago: 8 players Dallas: 3 LA: 9 Maracaibo: 42 (Caracas had 9) New York: 194 Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico etc all seem to have an issue similar to Maracaibo. edit: yep, looks like the biggest city in each country is getting a hugely disproportionate number of 'births'. I suppose I should try a quick fictional league and inaugural draft, to see if it's just an MLB issue or not. edit: if you get 'city of birth' "unknown", with an odd looking flag (looks familiar, I'll try and place it), clicking the flag crashes the game. edit: Afghan flag.

Fictional league, inaugural draft, just over 20% of the 3240 draftees are from New York. About 4% are from Maracaibo and 6% from Santo Domingo.
(The New York figure doesn't include Queens, Bronx and Brooklyn, which have a number of their own. No one ever from Manhattan, though).

Looks like a pretty significant (if sort-of cosmetic) bug.
For example, of the Dominican Republic players in the inaugural draft, about 70% are from Santo Domingo; of Venezuelans, half are from Maracaibo. The largest city in each country (even if only slightly larger than the next largest, checking the figures in the World screen) seems to have a very high proportion of all 'births'. (Re-name thread to 'City of Birth Bug' ?)

Hey! I'm a native Noo Yawker.....! Not all New Yorkers are Yankee fans. Remember, the metropolitan area is so large that at one time we supported three teams.
BTW- Yeah, I'm a Yankee fan since I was 8 years old back in 1973.

Did you complete your test with the fictional league? Is it just an MLB roster issue?

By all means run a quick test - there's a possibility something about my and the OP's configuration (pre-order 12.01 plus patch rather than 12.03 full install?) has caused this. More people testing with different installs would be good to confirm.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I'm seeing it too. I'm using build 12.0.3 full install. Also players with unknown city of origin has the Afghan flag by default and clicking the flag crashes the game.

I may know what the issue is
I have been looking at the xml file and I think I may see the issue.
Using Djibouti as an example (because it is small). There are 864,000 people, but if you add the city populations up it is only 715,977. I think this may be the source of the problem. I can't prove it though. Code:
<NATION id="54" name="Djibouti" pop="864000" lid="17" gender="0" bbqual="0" abbr="DJI" dem="Djiboutian"> <ETHNICITIES> <ETHNICITY lid="17" pct="100" /> </ETHNICITIES> <STATES> <STATE id="927" name="Jibuti" pop="623891" abbr="JIB"> <CITIES> <CITY id="34666" name="Jibuti" pop="623891" lat="11.56" long="43.15" abbr="JIB" /> </CITIES> </STATE> <STATE id="928" name="Ali Sabih" pop="40074" abbr="ALI"> <CITIES> <CITY id="5228" name="Ali Sabih" pop="40074" lat="11.16" long="42.71" abbr="ALI" /> </CITIES> </STATE> <STATE id="929" name="Tajurah" pop="22193" abbr="TAJ"> <CITIES> <CITY id="78058" name="Tajurah" pop="22193" lat="11.79" long="42.89" abbr="TAJ" /> </CITIES> </STATE> <STATE id="930" name="Awbuk" pop="17776" abbr="AWB"> <CITIES> <CITY id="5136" name="Awbuk" pop="17776" lat="11.97" long="43.29" abbr="AWB" /> </CITIES> </STATE> <STATE id="931" name="Dih_il" pop="12043" abbr="DIH"> <CITIES> <CITY id="20650" name="Dih_il" pop="12043" lat="11.11" long="42.37" abbr="DIH" /> </CITIES> </STATE> </STATES> <CAPITAL id="34666" /> </NATION>

Ran a small test draft. U.S. players only and 4 teams
184 total players generated. 48 were from New York (New York)

Manhattan is, for all intent and purposes, referred to as "New York City." For example if you mail or send something to a New York, NY address it will be delivered somewhere in Manhattan.
