Cannot start OOTPX
I have been running OOTPX without prolems since it first came out. Today, when I double-click the desktop icon to launch the program, I get an Application Error: "The application failed to initialize properly (0x000005). Click OK to terminate."
I have uninstalled and re-installed OOTPX but the Application Error still occurs. I am running OOTPX with the latest patch on Windows XP. Can you please help? Ian |

Same problem here
Only in my case it has never started. I got the same response each time I installed the game and patch, upon clicking the icon. I am running Windows XP Professional.

I'm beginning to think my problem has something to do with IE8.
I've installed this program but have problems with it - specifically, I cannot close IE8 - the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) facility stops me from doing so. I have to use Task Manager to close IE8. Trying to solve this problem is the only think I've been doing in the period from being able to launch OOTPX to not being able to do so. I've even uninstalled IE8 back to IE7 and, while I can close IE7 as normal, I still cannot run OOTPX. I looks as though installing IE8 has made some permanent changes to my XP operating system. Or........ is OOTPX compatable with IE8? Ian...... missing OOTPX dreadfully......... |

SOLVED IT !
I read the first article here: Problems running the game with Vista? I had ignored this thread until now as I'm running XP. But one of the suggestions in the top thread was to make OOTP Baseball 10 AND Runservice DEP exceptions. That worked...............my OOTPX has returned! Ian |

You did return to using IE8, or did you go back to IE7?

Quick look-see found this:
Re: IE-8 process does not closes ,instead have to kill by task manage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Internet Explorer in 'No Add-Ons' mode: If you have XP: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons) If you have Vista: Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons) Alternatively, you can create a shortcut on your desktop with the following target path: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff If the problem does not occur in 'No Add-Ons' mode, then it's being caused by one of the add-ons that you have installed. We can show you how to identify which add-on is causing the problem. Problems with Internet Explorer can also be caused by by malicious software ('malware') that has been installed on your computer. And my own comment: This might be remedied by downloading, installing, and running malewarebytes. Might be worth a shot. In addiiton, there's a few interesting and informative articles available Googling Task Manager IE8 Must Close In any event, again great news and yes, Dan's the Man; yet another OOTP undercurrent that keeps things moving in the right direction.

endgame........
Thanks for the heads up on how to check IE8 addons. I found an old addon that was causing my problem closing IE8. So...... I no longer have to use Task Manager. Thanks again. Ian |
