1969 Expansion
While I wait for resolution of an issue with my 72 Phils, I thought I'd take a step back 3 years further.
What if...the Expos and their financial woes, the Pilots and their attendance woes, and the Padres and their general misery had never happened? Let's face it: KC was a gold mine from day #1. The other three teams all had major issues. So...what if the Pilots had opened in Milwaukee as the Brewers, the Padres in Denver as the Bears, and the Expos—instead of that primitive crap hole they called a ballpark in 69—were in America's 16th largest city at the time...Nashville. Starting this with the same horrifically bad rosters that the 69 clubs began with, and moving forward. I'll be in Nashville. Spring Training awaits...

Day 1: Mack Jones and Tony Scott to Cleveland for Cardenal and Tiant and a 5th round pick. Yeah...I'll do this. Howie Reed for Larry Bowa! DONE! Dodgers approach me on Davey Lopes for Coco Laboy. I screwed 'em out of 10K in cash too.

Victory! The Sounds open the season with a 2-1 win over Seaver and the Mets!!! Manny Mota hits the winning HR. Finish the day by trading Marv Staehle to the Bears for Cito Gaston and a 2nd round pick...hmmm. Claimed Hal Lanier off waivers. Traded Garry Hestadt for Dave May and 10K. Decided to keep Lanier—he fields well, and Maury Wills is getting on in years.

Mets 6, Sounds 2. Morgan endears self with 2 early errors. Tiant is awful.

The Cubbies swat us down, 10-5. Notable in the game is that my pitchers were 1-2 with 2 BB at the plate.

Beat the Cubs 3-2...Maury Wills put one onto Waveland Avenue to win it. This is going to be a strange season.
