Jerry Mumphrey was released. The Blue Jays just couldn't find him playing time. What they really need is a CF, and he isn't that.

Bryan Moreno was called up from AAA.

Robinson Lopez gave up four Yankee runs in the 1st before settling down and holding them scoreless the rest of the way. Unfortunately it was too big a margin for the Toronto hitters to make up and the Blue Jays lost 4-2.

The Blue Jay offense turned on with Ken Phelps hitting two home runs and Rickey Henderson adding another but it was not enough as Toronto dropped their 8th straight game, losing 9-5 to Oakland.

Just when it looked like Nolan Ryan had led the Jays out of their losing streak, David Wells blew the save in the 9th and the Angels won 3-2 in 12 innings.

With the current troubles, the one bright spot was that Dave Winfield was due back in a week,

At least it was. We are now told that Winfield's return is unclear.

The Blue Jays came in having lost 10 in a row. The Angels came in having won 9 in a row.
Sounds like a blow out.
And it was.
But in the other direction.

Toronto won 7-1 thanks to a great outing by Howard Richmond.

Ken Phelps hit his 6th homer of the year.
