The Impossible Infinity Gauntlet
What a daunting title!
What is the Impossible Infinity Gauntlet? What I have done is taken every team from 1901 to 2018 and seeded them by victory total. Then loss total. Then year record was achieved. And lastly by alphabetical order. Then the very last seeds will face each other in a Best of Seven 2-3-2 format. The winner will face the next higher seed and so forth. Each series settings will be based on the year of the higher seeded team. This includes use of the designated hitter. Yes, this seeding rules will be unfair to teams in strike-shortened or war-shortened seasons but sometimes life isn't fair. Opening Day rosters will be used. I am not listing all the seeds at this time. That's too damn many! But I will tell you the gauntlet will begin with the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics taking on the 1919 Philadelphia Athletics. Based on 1919 settings. The winner will face the 1981 Toronto Blue Jays. Sent from my LG-M150 using Tapatalk Last edited by vrobx1; 05-11-2019 at 06:06 PM. |

1916 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS 1919 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS
The 1916 Philadelphia Athletics finished with a record of 36-117 and are in the conversation for Worst Team of All Time. As Bad As It Gets is a book that details the story of the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics. The 1919 Athletics also won only 36 games while losing 104. They are, however, largely forgotten thanks in no small part to the Black Sox Scandal. GAME ONE Fittingly, this battle went into extra innings. Walt Kinney did not give up an earned run in the first nine innings but the 1919 Athletics committed four errors in those nine innings and the game headedinto the tenth tied at two. In the bottom of the tenth, Red Shannon hit an RBI single with runners at first and second and one out to give 1919 the walk off win. Final score: 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 3 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 2 10 innings. GAME TWO 1916 just crushed 1919! The 1916 Athletics scored eight runs in the second inning and rolled to an easy win. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 11 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 4. GAME THREE What comes around goes around. The 1919s jumped out to a 9-0 lead, beginning with a four run first and cruised to a 2-1 series lead. Final score: 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 12 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5. GAME FOUR The 1916s broke open a close game with a four run fifth and held on to even the series again. Wally Schang hit a two run single that was the big blow of the inning. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 7 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 4. GAME FIVE The 1916s went into the bottom of the ninth down by two. Rube Oldring tied the game with a two run double. Nap Lajoie then won it with a two out RBI single. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 4. GAME SIX The first elimination game of the gauntlet is decided by a single run. Amos Strunk hit an RBI double in the top of the fifth and the 1916s held on to eliminate the 1919s. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 3 1919 Philadelphia Athletics 2. 1916 Philadelphia Athletics win the series 4-2. Sent from my LG-M150 using Tapatalk |

1916 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS 1981 TORONTO BLUE JAYS
The 1981 Toronto Blue Jays went 37-69 in the strike shortened season. This will be the first series to see the DH in play. The winner will face the 1935 Boston Braves. GAME ONE The Athletics made it four wins in a row. They doubled the Blue Jays hit total to go up 1-0 in the series. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 2. GAME TWO The Athletics overcame an early 5-0 deficit to force extra innings. But, in the bottom of the tenth, Otto Velez sent the Canadian fans home happy with a walk off RBI single. Final score: 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 6 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5 10 innings. GAME THREE Mark Bomback didn't need much run support but that didn't stop the Blue Jays from pouring it on. Otto Velez hit a double and a home run as the Blue Jays crushed the Athletics. Final score: 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 10 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 2. GAME FOUR In the opening series of the gauntlet, the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics found themselves down 2-1 before winning three straight. Now, they find themselves down 2-1 again. Despite committing four errors, they out hit the Blue Jays 11-5 to win. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 2. GAME FIVE The Athletics are one win away from advancing again. Bullet Joe Bush went the distance. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 7 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 2. GAME SIX The Blue Jays must have gone back on strike. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 14 1981 Toronto Blue Jays 3. 1916 Philadelphia Athletics win series 4-2. 1916 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS VS 1935 BOSTON BRAVES
The Braves were almost as bad as the Athletics, posting an abysmal record of 38-115. 40 year old Babe Ruth signed with the 1935 Braves. The winner moves on to face the 1904 Washington Senators. GAME ONE Aren't the Athletics supposed to be the worst team of all time? Nap Lajoie hit a two run double in the top of the third and Bullet Joe Bush went the distance. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 6 1935 Boston Braves 2. GAME TWO Damn! Jing Johnson gets the complete game shutout. And that's just the beginning of the problems for the Braves. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 15 1935 Boston Braves 0. GAME THREE And home team falls to 0-3 in the series. The Braves rally from down 2-0 to win late. Final score: 1935 Boston Braves 4 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 3. GAME FOUR The Athletics continue to find success in Game Fours. Elmer Myers allows just four hits and Amos Strunk scores four times. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 10 1935 Boston Braves 2. GAME FIVE For the first time in the gauntlet, the Athletics failed to finish a team off in an elimination game. Fred Frankhouse two hit the Athletics. Final score: 1935 Boston Braves 1 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 0. GAME SIX The Braves fail to win a single game at home in the series. Jing Johnson allowed just one run and the Athletics continue to climb the gauntlet. Final score: 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 4 1935 Boston Braves 1. 1916 Philadelphia Athletics win the series 4-2. Final score: 1904 Washington Senators 6 1916 Philadelphia Athletics 5. GAME TWO The Senators appeared on their way to a 2-0 series lead. But, in the top of the ninth, Wally Schang hit a bases loaded triple with two out to tie the score. Interesting concept. Do you reset the pitching rotation between each series?

1981 NEW YORK METS (41-62) AT 1952 PITTSBURGH PIRATES (42-112)
