Comparable Players (Career)

I'm not exactly sure what this means, in particular what the number between the player name and their career scope represents. Dustin Pedroia is most comparable to Jose Vidro, with a 'score' (?) of 957.

Responding in another thread, I used Baseball Reference. I will use it again here.

I looked up Ken Griffey, Jr. on Baseball Reference. Follow that link and scroll down to Similarity Scores. See how it ranks him against various other great players, in two ways: entire career and at various ages (20 to 40 in KGJ's case).

There is a link to an explanation of how these scores are arrived at; basically, they start with 1,000 and deduct for dissimilarities. So, a score of 954 says KGJ was is very similar to Bryce Harper when they were both 20, and 900 says KGJ and Frank Robinson were similar when they were both 40.

I see that OOTPB provides the same career / at age option with a check box. That's good, but bear in mind that the methodology used by Baseball Reference may not be the same as that used by OOTPB. We have seen many situations where there are divergences in sabermetric calculations and the game developers do not describe theirs in detail.
