Just encountered a first for me - MLB Team moved and renamed by AI "owner"
So, I finished a season, and was cruising on to the pre-season for the next year and in my New and Mail:
I think the game design team forgot that the Boston fans would never tolerate a move of the Red Sox from their town. Don't they know that Boston fans have been almost as a riot when it was thought of before? Any team from Boston, with a name of Red Sox, should be marked with a "cannot move" flag in the game design. ::: chuckle ::: This is not a team like and Oakland sports team that can move back and forth in the same state and just have grumbling fans. It was interesting, since I am playing in Commissioner mode, and I would have expected I would get some warning before the overall announcement came. Nope...just moved. :::: chuckle :::
So I forced them back. For 3 whole days in my FL World, San Antonio had a professional MLB team. Then I kicked them back home before the Boston fans in game started rioting and wrecking my computer. |

In OOTP 15 I had a team move to Toronto (the Blue Jays were already there), then my next THREE expansion franchises were in Toronto. Some kinda bug or issue there.

It really is the first time I have saw an AI owner just up and move and rename a team in game. No chance for anyone to take over. If they don't have the teams go up for sale, they should not just up and move. IMHO. |

Sorry, mistype. Petes.
Either way, I agree. For an MLB team, it should have had something like Sixguns or Jets or SOMETHING better. Something that says San Antonio 'manly men' and not "be keep getting kicked so lets make our name say it". |

This is funny but you know you can disable that kind of thing from happening right?

Ah, automatic league evolution. The Sox leaving Boston for San Antonio. Now, there are varying degrees of possibility in any imaginable universe, I suppose. But when I read this, all I can think of is Godfather 2, when Kay is threatening to take the kids away from Michael Corleone, and Michael's menacing response:
"Do you expect me to let them go? Don't you know me? Don't you know that that's an impossibility? That that could never happen? That I'd use all my power to keep something like that from happening?" ...that's pretty much what the collective Bostonian response would be to something this far-fetched... |

i dunno guys. red sox fans seem to enjoy misery more than success. i think the team moving would be the nadir of fandom and therefore the pinnacle of happiness for those chaps.

I can see it now, the AI Boston mob starts spamming "Move the team BACK TO BOSTON" from my computer. Next thing we know we would have real riots about it and they would get blamed on "racial tension", because "no one would riot over a fake spam about their ball team". ::: chuckle ::: |

I wonder what John Henry thinks of the game now.

In all the time I've had league evolution on I've never had a team move. I kind of want it to happen. Then again if it did I'm sure it'd be a team I was annoyed at moving.

Spoken like someone who's only vaguely familiar with Red Sox fans thru myth and legend. I wouldn't trade the last 11 years of success for anything...

Non-Sox or -Cubs fans should try losing for the better part of a century and see how pessimistic they become. Doesn't mean they don't still love the team. |
