All-time League
Some folks from another baseball site and I are setting up what we are calling an all-time draft. We are selecting players from throughout history, creating a full lineup, etc. We were planning on turning this into a sim league. This was originally going to be run by someone else using Mogul, but he is stepping away from the site. So I said I would try to figure out how to do this sort of thing. With that in mind, three queries.
I know how to import players, since that can be done from the free agent screen (correct me if I'm wrong). Is it possible to clear out all of the fictional players created by the game (and would this be create a problem for future fictional games? Is it possible to set it up so that another human can help me set the game up and run it? |

To delete the fictional rosters, simply clear all rosters delete all free agents. Make sure that none of your historical players are in the free agent pool. To have two people set up the game, you would need to keep sharing the league files through a site like Dropbox. One person works on it, updates the files, and the other downloads the new files, works on it some more, updates the files, etc. |

Figured everything out, except this.
I managed to delete everyone. I went to my files to add the historical players' IDs to the proper document (Historical_Database.ODB). I have no idea how to open that extension. Is there another way to do this? |

Click Import Historical players. Select historical database.odb select options and the the list you want to import from. click import. done. You do not open the historical database.odb pull the players Id from baseball-reference.com it is in the website address line for the player. I'm not sure what or how many players you want to import, but one thing you may want to check out is the Laundry League quick start. It's set for the inaugural draft with 1200 of the best players in history. That might save you some time if it gives you the players you are looking for.

We only want specific players, so I think I'd rather do it by hand. I just don't know where to put this text file. Once I have that, I'll be all set.

Wow, did some more digging, and I was able to input the ID directly into the game, no documents or anything. Thanks everyone for the help.

Problem with this is that you have to do each one individually. That's we suggested the text file. The import one at a time was the original way, and then they added the all at once method. But whichever way you find easier is the way to go. |

Another question.
I turned off inaugural draft, amateur draft, all of that. It was supposed to just be the historical players. But the game somehow had an inaugural draft anyway. How do I empty the rosters and delete the players? |

To be clear, I don't want to put the players into the FA pool. I need to completely delete them.

put yourself in Commish mode. Go to each Team Roster Overview. lick the little bubble next to POS. This will highlight all players listed. If they have more then 25 players, View all players in organization right click delete.

I am trying to do exactly this, but every time I try, it says 'The historical player import failed'. Any help?

Means you are doing something wrong. Are you using the baseball reference player ID? example ruthba01 1927? If the player you are trying to import has initials for a 1st name like AJ Burnett, Pierzynski etc and it says a. in the player ID use AJ. Are you selecting the ODB or master.cvs?
