One last thing to do... have to manually create the schedule.

And then, AWAY WE GO.

The inaugural season of the South Island Recreation League.

Back to 1955.

Everything is completed... time to start the season.

Will just double check everything to make sure I have done everything and have all my league settings the way I want.

Each season will be only 10 games... running from April to early June.
Teams will play one home and one away game with each team.

One game a week played on Sunday afternoon.

Since it's only one game per week, do you just have an ace on all the teams who starts every game? Plenty of time for rest.

Yes... there is usually one pitcher that starts most games... but the other two pitchers are also starters and will used in relief... and if the #1 starter flounders and flops, then one of the others will get a shot... I manage all teams in the commissioner mode... and I will play out each game entirely... in the past I would play from the 6th inning on so I could make the pitching changes and substitutions... I have never liked the way the AI substitutes players... it double switches too much for me... it plays modern-day baseball and not 1950s style that I prefer with limited use of pitchers, pinchhitters and defensive changes.

It's a three-man staff.... with 13 position players... 16-man rosters... 10-man reserve rosters... I edit all players so they can play other positions... even the pitchers can play a some other position other than pitcher.

That how recreation ball is... players have to be adaptable and play more than one position because of the small rosters... in all my experience in church league and rec league softball, everyone has to play at least half of the game, otherwise they won't come to a game... to have enough players show up on a regular basis, they have to play most of the game... some players are happy to play half a game.

I definitely like the concept. Smaller rosters and players playing different positions. Less substitutions.

Also I agree with you about playing out the entire game. I used to do large playoffs, having as many as 24-32 teams and only playing from the 7th or 8th inning to the end. But I was finding that I was missing all of the action from early in the games. Now I prefer having smaller, shorter playoffs and watching all innings.

A big thank you to all who followed this original North Island-South Island League.

This thread will be continued in a new thread and new league... EC's South Island Recreation League... It will pick up in 1955.
