I read a post that said you can play as only GM or only the manager but there is only an option for GM. How do you set it up to be a manager and not have another manager listed also? Kind of sucks that it isn't more straightforward.

Under manager options set all but lineups/pitching staff to AI control. You are now manager only. I know it's not perfect, but it works.

Ok, I'm going to start with the Rangers in 83 since Bobby V actually started mid-season 85.

Here are the settings I'm planning on using:
  • Historic transactions and lineups
  • Three year recalc with current year doubled
  • Draft off

I have a couple questions:
  • Will I still be able to alter lineups/rotations even with historic lineups (meaning that only affects CPU teams?)
  • Will this give me mostly realistic production with some variance?
  • Will my altering of lineups and pitching staffs produce any noticeable differences in production or in the end will I just be getting the same basic results +/- a few games?

Thanks again for all the feedback. I'm ready to get going. Just want to make sure I have all my i's dotted and t's crossed. Anything else I might be missing?

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't use the real lineups feature. The 25 man roster rule isn't used when real lineups are used. This will be most apparent when it come to pitching staffs and bullpen usage.

Real Minor League Teams in Historical League is must/E. Historical League option is a must.

I would to take the Rays and and turn off Real Transactions/Retirement/Injures but only keep the people who they aqiured so like James Shields,Matt Garza and so on would not go on like the Royals or Cubs but Wil Myers,Jose Casneco would show up on the Rays when they did in Real Life, use real Minor League Teams so more we can have the full Draft Classes from each year and when get to 2013 Year I would turn back on Injures and so on because I would like to have a Rays Roster from MLB to Rookie Ball Current to former Rays.

Also Player Transaction News past 2013 season.

Simply not feasible for the earlier years of MLB history. At least, not without a massive amount of changes and/or departures from reality.

I don't think so, but maybe someone else can confirm this for sure.

Setting lineups and rotations won't have any effect.....the game will put the real lineups in the game....however, if you play the game out, you can change the preset lineup, if you want.....

Question

I am wondering, when I choose "Create a Custom Game", select "Historic Season", do the Transaction Databases come along with the Season which you have chosen to Replay? I have semi-real trades happening, usually guys who were Traded DO get Traded, on the correct day, but the deal is made with a different Team than Historically happened. Ex: Lou Brock traded to Giants.
I am just hoping that there is a way to set up a season with the correct player trades. Do I need to maybe run game in Commissioner Mode? I use the GM Mode, but the Trades are not correct.

Which brings me to... How do I do I add Transaction Database or Actual Lineups to Historical Season? Any help is gratefully appreciated, thanks.

later that day...
Got it, found it - Step 3/Custom Game has the Checkboxes!!

There is a checkbox in the settings for using historical transactions and lineups
