The world's hardest sports question

Which is the least dysfunctional organization? Mets, Knicks or Jets?

Would it not be most dysfunctional?

Or maybe the least functional?
As long as the Yankees are doing well, who cares about the others?

No. If, for example, you think the Mets & Knicks are the worst, then the Jets IYO are the least dysfunctional.

I'd say the Jets are the worst. Since the merger I think they won their division twice in almost 50 years of trying. But it's hard to separate the Knicks and Mets.

I was just thinking, if I had to take ownership for how one of these franchises ended up at this point, which team would I rather fess up about? I'd claim the Mets. But there is no good answer.

I don't know or care that much about the Jets, so I will say the Knicks.

The Mets despite how much crap I like to give them are somewhat successful. They made the World Series in 2015 for Christ sake.
They made another back in 2000.
They have not lost 100 games in a season since 1993. So despite some bad seasons they have never completely fallen off the rails.

The Knicks had their 99-2000 season which they made the conference finals. Since then...not good

In losing as many as they did in 1993, however, the Mets did set the most stupid record for eternity, finishing *seventh* in the National League East in the only season a team could do so, behind the expansion *Marlins*, and tied the 1962 Cubs' mark for worst record by an established franchise in an expansion year; and to even arrive in that tie, they somehow had to win their last six games, which they miraculously did.

I know nothing about the other stuff. I only know the Mets are embarrassing. These days it might be less embarrassing to just tattoo Chief Wahoo on your face...

Well isn't this a thread.

I guess I have to state the Jets' case here. I understand they get negative points here because they're team everyone loves to hate, but just because they've drafted poorly doesn't mean they're dysfunctional. The nature of the Maccagnan firing was poor, considering C. Johnson was talked into it over time it would seem, but let's not forget that 3 or 4 other teams have also fired their GM post-draft in the last half-decade to little fanfare (including Houston like a week after the Jets, a season after Bill O'Brien pushed out a top 10 GM in Rick Smith for one of 'his guys', only for the team to turn around and fire 'his guy' a season later; the team would later pick up a tampering accusation in their attempt to fill the role, and then decide that they would not hire a new GM, instead splitting personnel power between their megalomaniac head coach and someone they hired months ago for a lesser role, but no one really cares about Houston so they get a pass on all that). It's not like players avoid the Jets, nor is it that players on the roster demand to play elsewhere. The team is one of 10 franchises to make 2 conference championship games in the last 10 years as well.

I don't follow the other sports nearly as closely, but the Knicks have been a joke for years, they give out ridiculous contracts (which quite a few teams have been guilty of doing since the salary cap began escalating, tbf) with ownership seemingly reaching Donald Sterling levels of incompetence (including banning reporters from a paper he didn't like from an event they weren't allowed to ban them from). The team had a player who hadn't played in a year recovering from injury see so little hope in the team without him he demanded out.

The Mets are another easy team to laugh at in the same vein as the Jets it would seem. The fans seem to have great disdain for this owner as well. It seems a big part of their issue is that they've committed to batters that are injury prone (Cespedes) or just plain overpaid (Cano). Idk what Cespedes was like before they signed the contract, but it seems like the team's recent struggles despite massively talented pitching (which is struggling this season far as I've seen) is mainly down to poor salary management (also I remember reading an article about how the Mets are spending over a certain threshold in payroll for the first time ever but factoring out injured players' contracts they would rank bottom half in the league in payroll; so it seems like ownership has tight purse strings, never appreciated in New York).

tl;dr the Jets get way too much hate for just being a mediocre to bad team. The Mets appear to have been poorly handled from a finances standpoint. The Knicks need a new owner. I'm going Jets as least dysfunctional because they're not dysfunctional.

inb4 the Jets release Leveon Bell in week 5 and Jim Bob Cooter becomes the head coach by week 8

To the Jets' credit, they did make the AFC title game twice in a row in 2009 and 2010...

The Knicks won a playoff series in 2012-13 but besides that haven't won one since 1999-2000.

The Mets went to the World series in 2000 and 2015 and also won a playoff series in 2006, I think it has to be them. To be fair to them, their pitcher injuries have been ridiculous. Seriously hand foot and mouth disease?

None of you who give the Mets credit having heard about their clueless, dumb manager calling a beat reporter a smartass and mother****er and throwing him out of the clubhouse (after he was offered a courtesy beating by SP Jason Vargas), and it was bad enough that Jeff Wilpon had to call around and offer a wholesale apology on Sunday evening?

By the way, that was THIS Sunday.

The clueless, dumb manager still holds the reigns by the way, despite what ticked him off having been the simple remark by the reporter that he would "see you tomorrow".

Didn't bring up 1993 for nothing. That year Vince Coleman threw a firecracker into a girl's face, and Bobby Bonilla (yes, that guy...) offered to show Bob Klapisch (author of Worst Team Money Can Buy) around the hood.

Btw, Monday Bonilla will cash another $1.19m check from the Metsies for his non-services in 2000.

oh yes, the Mets make bad ownership choices and absolutely Vargas and the manager should be gone, but the product on the field is superior to what the other two teams are putting out recently.

I would go with the Mets as least. They have the money to field a good team. Knicks are the worst IMO.

I'm a Cowboys fan and they have been pretty pathetic in the last 20 + years, so I get disappointment. I am also a life long Knicks fan. But as a Knicks fan I have had plenty of good years to remember going back to the 70s.

I just don't see this with the Jets. Their last good QB was O'Brien IMO. Not counting trying to resurrect has been QBs, when was the last time they had a QB since then? Their last good team was when they had the NY sack exchange back in the 80s. The few good seasons they had around 2010 was a flash in the pan. Sanchez was always garbage. That team never gave me the same feeling that 80s team did. They were actually exciting to watch and I kind of rooted for them in the AFC. Since then the Jets had two good seasons and spun around the toilet bowl the rest of the time. Probably the 2nd worst franchise in NFL history just a few steps above the Cardinals.

Mets are most functional to me since they stumbled their way into the WS not 4 years ago

I'm going to go Knicks. The Mets had 1986 and one or two other seasons but the Knicks had a lot of runs. The Jets have been trash for most of 50 years so they're out. The Jets will be trash this year too. They'll win 6 games if they're lucky.

Happy Bobby Bonilla day!

The Mets are in the debate until at least 2035.

Ever notice how the Mets have had a lot of big name free agent signees over the years but they all seem to turn into crap? It started with Bonilla followed by Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar, Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez, and Johann Santana to name some.

Johan Santana gave the Mets their only no-hitter and is thus excluded from the this conversation. And he was not a free agent signing. He was traded for Carlos Gomez (who, now old and crap, came back to the Mets), Philip Humber (he of the perfect game), and others.

The other players on the list…...
