Worrying about starters

I've been playing thru a fictional season as my team and have been impatient with my 4-5 spots in my rotation. I'm into the 1st week of June in my first yr managing the team and started to wonder how other handle it and gauge when to make a change. I just traded for what I believe is a 22 yr old future #3 starter Jorge Salgado to slot into the fifth spot after this guy Han-Soo Pak blew it IMO

Is that too small of a sample to go off of? Did I react to drastically to his performance?

You got a better player by your talent evaluation, that is also much younger.

I don't think sample size is even relevant if the guy was a fifth starter. You should always be looking to improve the back end of your rotation.

How often do you skip your #5? In most modern MLB league my #5 will be skipped 5-7 times throughout the season and 3-3 5.60 is ok for a #5 when you are not the Yankees.

This is generally my thinking as well, I guess I'm wondering what others tend to do and whether or not they have success in similar situations.

I run my rotation on strict, on occasion highest rested but will usually override that aside from particular games and matchups, as I like to use all 5 as much as possible thru the order.

How is the long reliever pitching who replaces the struggling starter? That's the first place I look when a starter is struggling. Stretch him out, give him a few starts, promote your future ace to long relief, rinse and repeat, as necessary. It's what I do, anyway.

That would be Edwin Jones until a couple weeks ago when, as you probably can see, he is now my #4 lol. Never started a game in his ML career until this yr just a couple weeks ago actually.

In case folks were wondering record wise why I'm concerned....well I simmed 25 yrs until this yr and picked the team based on them having worst record in division as well as only 4 playoff appearances with 0 championships. Every positional starter aside from Osorio, McCray, and Rivera are rookies with less than 200 ABs, Rivera being the only with a full season under his belt.

All the more reason for you to try to get younger making that trade... you can't really be thinking "Win Now" after all... unless they are all clones of Ruth, and probably not even then.

I think I'd be more concerned with your leadoff guy hitting .184

17/44 BB/K in 43.1 innings with a .398 BABIP against? Bet you his FIP is around 4-4.20 or so. Perfectly OK at the backend of a rotation.

His FIP was 3.98. I tried to stay with him but I felt I could find someone better than that especially after a 7 run start really demorilized my feelings toward him lol

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
