historical league trades
Spring Training is in the air and it's time for my annual suggestion for historical league trades. I began playing with version 6.5 and have purchased every version since then, so this is indeed an annual event for me.
I realize there is an option that automatically makes trades on the dates they occurred. This option is just too restrictive for me. I'd like for Lou Brock to 'most likely' play for the Cardinals, but not definitely. First of all, so that my suggestion makes more sense, let me describe how I think the current trade system, (sans automatic trades) works. There first of all has to be some formula/algorithm that determines players' value or worth. It doesn't matter to me what this formula is. These values are changed in OOTP by: 1. Scouting abilities and budgets. Different teams are perceiving players; values differently, being either better or worse than they actually are. 2. Team mode. Players' values are altered by what mode the team is in, whether win now or rebuilding also changes how much value a team places on a given player altering the trade balance. I would like to see players' perceived values altered up by what teams they played for in real life. To use my original example the Cardinals will place higher value on Lou Brock, making them more likely to trade for him and less likely to trade him away in years that he played for them. This is just like a team changing their perceived value of Brock depending on where he is in his career and whether or not a given team is rebuilding or needs to win now. My proposal would ideally, (for me), be on a sliding scale similar to avg vs pwr sliding scale used in determining lineups.
