Online League Export - need some help with 4.29 and 4.31 patches

Greetings,

The 10.4.29 and 10.4.31 patches have wreaked havoc with 1 of the owners in my online league. He is from Australia so the time difference is making the back and forth of debugging difficult.

The league (and him) upgraded to 10.4.29 last week. Since that point, he is unable to export via ftp or download the league file in-game.

His exports via FTP gives this error message : Could not upload file. Error -202: Upload Error

His in-game downloads error out with a message of "Could not get file information", as if he cannot see the file on the server.

What we know for sure :
He has the proper version of the game (10.4.29, and 10.4.31 have both been tried).
His FTP settings are definitely correct.
He has blown away his entire league folder and re-downloaded a fully updated league file from me, and still runs into these problems.
He believes his firewalls are properly allowing the program to access the internet (vista firewall, and norton).

Any help appreciated.

A member of my league was having this same issue and he had to disable the Windows firewall temporarily to get it to work.

Thanks, i'll have him try that as a test.

Any idea what the file is that needs to be allowed? Is it just the OOTPX Executable?

For the person in my league allowing the ootp executable wasn't enough. He had to shut the firewall off, export or download and then turn it back on. I'll point him to this thread to see if he can provide some more info.

Just thought I'd mention I'm also having the same problem, and turning off Windows Firewall did not work for me.

Strangely, I too am in Australia at the moment.

Yeah, Stu's right. Any time I want to upload the league file or export, I have to turn off my firewall and wait for the upload/export to finish, then turn the firewall back on.

OOTP was already an exception, but I made sure to add it again, but it didn't help. I've tried multiple times, but no change.

For the export, I don't mind shutting the firewall down, but the upload takes some time, so leaving the firewall down for that long isn't the best workaround for this issue.

So my league member (from Australia) turned off his firewalls to test this further, and still ran into the same error messages.

Could something with OOTPX exports be timing out because of the locale?

That's now 2 Aussies with the same problem.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Hm, something does not seem to work with FTP when you're down under

Let's try to change some settings. You'll need to open the config/app file (OOTP Baseball Manual - Game Configuration Files)

Set the value for ftp_passive_mode to 0 (zero)

Increase the value for ftp_timeout_milliseconds to 90000 (90 seconds)

Set the value for trace_mode to 1 to get some debug info written into the file ootp.log, and send me the file, please.

I just sent an email to your league member (Charles) requesting the FTP trace.

Config/App settings

This is a copy of the email I sent to Andreas:

I've gone into the config/app file and increased the timeout value and set the value for trace_mode as you suggested. However, there is no "ftp_passive_mode" setting in the file. The only "ftp" settings in the file are "ftp_timeout_milliseconds" and "ftp_buffer_size". Could this have something to do with the problem?

This is a new setting which came with the new version. Please add the attribute at the bottom of the config file. Try both settings 0 and 1.

Hey there, just wondering if any progress has been made in diagnosing this problem. It's still happening for me, and I think I may have to drop out of my league.

Same here ... I've tried everything that's been suggested without any change.

In the FTP setup area, make sure you have a "/" in the Target Directory fields. Then test the connection.

We're really working on it, currently we're testing a new build. Before you leave your league due to these problems please note that you can do the whole download/upload stuff manually if needed, using a free FTP client. I know, that's not ideal and probably difficult if you're not a computer freak, but it's a work-around until we get this fixed.

Any news about the fix? I have the same problem and I'm also from outside the US (Germany). Would really be great if this could be fixed, I guess the commish would rather not give away the FTP password.

There is always the option of emailing exports until the problem gets fixed as well.

I'm also out of the country and having these types of problems, but I've found that eventually it just works after multiple tries, so I'm not sure if it's a related issue. Also, I'm using the Mac version of OOTPX.

Checking on this as well...when I try to download from my league, I'm getting Error: Could not download file. It connects to the server, starts to give the progress bar and immediately goes to that error. I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and have the 10.4.31 version. Firewall is off, has been from the beginning with this error. Been doing the manual download of the league file and then unzipping into saved game, kinda frustrating though since I had no issue at all in OOTP 9.
