Is OOTP older than you?

How many people that play this game today were born after the first version of OOTP was released? I started with OOTP 2 and still have the original CD ROM that I received in the mail.

I'm 31, so no, but it will certainly be interesting to see if anyone here is that young.

If the first version of OOTP came out in 1999, then no, it's not older than me. I'd have been 19 that year.

I turned 17 in 1999, so no...not older than me. But I'm surprised it took me this long to find it.

I was 19 when I first discovered OOTP in 2001. Crazy to think there's someone college CMH's age that is younger than the game.

I am older than Strat-O-Matic, but not by much. The first baseball game I played was Micro League Baseball on my Atari 400. I quickly learned that the roster files were plain text and started editing them for forced trades and player creation. Along the way I played Front Page Sports, Triple Play, and of course High Heat.

By 1999 I was mostly playing Baseball Mogul, but was playing around with Shaun Sullivan's pre-alpha game, that oddly enough, was played inside of Microsoft's IE. It was at that time I learned from discussions on Usenet that some German kid already had a completed game.

A German produced baseball game?

I checked it out, and the fact you could use the Lahman database was just awesome to me. It was like discovering the Holy Grail. I bought it.

When the second version came out I accidentally tried to use the product key for the first version to activate it. After I contacted support, I got an email from some guy named Markus Heinsohn who was very concerned about my problem. I had to sheepishly admit, that while I might not be his brightest customer, I was at least loyal.

So this seems sorta on topic, but what about Front Page Sports: Baseball by Sierra around 1994 or so. Was in my opinion the spiritual forebear to ootp. Even had player creation engine that would put out ratings if you punched in the RL stats. (I remembering using it to recreate Rico Petrocelli for my Sox teams)

They had a Football version as well, I poured stupid amounts of time into both of their franchise modes.

That was the first baseball game I ever really was excited to play. I first purchased it when I was 17 in 1973 and continued purchasing new seasons through the early 80's until I discovered the computer version of Pursue the Pennant
Oh and my kids tell me that I am older than dirt
