Post altering .dat files

i know this sounds like an odd question, but if i wanted to poke around inside the .dat files for a specific league, what program would i need to use to open them?

i tried opening said files with notepad and notebook, but neither of those opened the files properly.

any suggestions?

You would need a hex editor & the knowledge how to use it. You can download & install free hex editors from many download sites. Read up on the limits of hex editing a file (lots of web info) and make a backup of any file you want to edit. I would also suggest not editing any OOTP DAT files because if you make an error the game will crash for sure, and a crash in any program can lead to further problems with that program, and that can lead to more work for the OOTP support staff of 1 .

that is weird since II have opened up those files in Wordpad and I was able to change some files (The injuries and the cities) You can really do some cool stuff when you edit the injury file.

That is true, I am just speaking about the DAT files for a specific league - the DAT files within a .LG folder.
