Pitcher's Hitting...1 Contact
Hi. I am currently playing a historical league starting in 1899 with random players appearing in the draft year to year. Currently I am about 1/4 through 1912 and have been happy with the results except for one issue. The pitcher's hitting. More accurately, when a Pitcher with 1 Contact (1-10 scale) comes to bat I have the urge to pitch around or walk him because of the seemingly endless times he's able to get a hit.
I know this can be shot down as "small sample size" or "bad luck", but I looked at it a little closer. All Pitchers with 1 Contact are hitting a combined 336-1867 (.180). I realize .180 is pretty horrible, but maybe I expect worse from the bottom 10% of Contact ability. Pitchers with 2 Contact are 63-334 (.189) and with a 3 they are 71-315 (.225). The overall real MLB hit .269 in 1912, but baseball ref doesn't yet have the breakout what the Pitchers hit for that year. 1914 with a .251 AVE had the 9th place position hit .184 overall that year. While Jason Dickson went 0-13 in his career it is frustrating to see him go 15-43 with a split of .349/.364/.488. (including 6-7 in 2 games in which I played against him). So, has there been any notice of this by other historical players or should I just deal with it quietly ? I suppose my real question is...Is a combined .180 batting average acceptable for Pitchers with a 1 Contact in a league that hit .269 overall ? Thanks for the soapbox.

Thanks for that.
I'm sure in my current version of 1912 the Pitcher's totals are much higher (away from the game currently). I just wasn't sure if there was any kind of known issue with Pitcher's hitting overall better than they did in real life.

Pitchers hit .188 in 1912 in the last OOTP game I played but of course that is a different mix of pitchers and their AB's than IRL.
Best hitting Pitcher with at least 90 AB's hit .301 in 93 AB's in my 1912 OOTP game.
