Third Party Player Pic Renderer?

Hey everyone, with my NHA roster I've been having to make tons of jerseys and constantly test them in game. But unfortunately that method is quite time-consuming and sometimes mindnumbing lol. Having to export the jersey, boot the game, load the save, find the team, load a player, and hope that the jerseys rendered properly this time is a pain.

I was wondering if it was possible for the community here to create a third party program or photoshop plugin that would allow for quick rendering of jersey files? instead of having to do it through the game each time

i know its probably a giant endeavour, but hey who knows!

That would be nice. For both jerseys and goalie masks if it could be done.

You could probably use Blender to achieve this. Here is a sample rendering of just the jersey image file draped over an object. Would need to create a proper torso model in Blender on which to overlay the jersey with to give a good approximation of how it would look in the game (the image below gives you an idea of its potential). Swapping other jersey image files in and out is extremely quick as well (and for fun you could create full size jerseys, view from any angle, and even add name and numbers).

ooh that looks promising. wonder if there's a way to access the 3D model file from the game files and use that?

I wonder if this is the sort of thing that could maybe one day find it's way into EriqJaffe's Jersey Maker tool?

I don't know a ton about Blender but I have used it before. So, I figured I'd mess with this a bit this weekend. Unfortunately, I never could find a free hockey torso and I don't know how to create one. I think it's promising if we can again access to/or create a replica of the games 3d model.

Daz3D has a hockey set for their models, but the textures are set up differently than they are in FHM. IIRC the sleeves were sepreate from the jersey body.

Update... applied the team logo (from Wabba's Flint Pistons) and the base jersey color to the 3d model. This is just a 'proof of concept' test rendering, as the torso model would need to be redone with a higher poly count, and reshaped in various areas as well.

Amazing. Does anyone know how to open .fr3d, .eg, or .tri files? I want to add visors to helmet in the game. Could i do it in Blender or another 3D program?

The new torso model is starting to take shape. Still a ways to go... only have the front so far, and still need to bump up the polygon count to smooth out the triangles, as well as figure out the some of the seams not lining up correctly, but there is enough to show it with jerseys overlaid in this fictional match up promo. Many thanks to Wabba for these great jerseys.

some more progress ... I created a simple profile face plate with a cutout window in Blender to give an idea of how the rendered jersey would scale in the player profile section. Also created a mannequin style head for the torso to help model it better. An up scaled full length jersey can now be utilized to showcase all of its artwork as a rendered 3D model. To display the jersey only, you can simply click 'hide in view port' for the head and face plate models.

This continues to look greater and greater. I can't wait to try it out to see how some of my jerseys look on a 3D model

I'm not even sure I fully comprehend what this will all mean for making FHM jerseys but I'm enjoying watching this develop!

Added lighting and shadow effects, and did some torso reshaping for an improved multi sample rendering (armbands appear noticeably sharper). When the template is ready for release I will offer it in two versions,

jersey_template.blend (left image, instant rendering... best used for logo/graphics alignment testing in the provided profile face plate window, and as an all around preview of what it will look like in-game.)

jersey_template_multi.blend (right image, can take several minutes to render but has superior quality... best used for showcasing your designs at a higher resolution. As with the first template, you will be able to export these HD versions of your rendered jersey into various graphic formats)
