fictional world, starting with 1871 sort of - 1961 baseline for modifiers. Mostly historical players to start, but allowing fictional players as league expands.

I really like fictional, creating my own universes. I like not having preconceived notions about the players.

Historical random debut just finishing the 4th season, 1905. Based on 1976 stats, a test league, to learn and fix my mistakes. Trying to include unaffiliated minor leagues from which players can be purchased by Major League teams.

Fictional world starting in 1800 with a period world xml file. I keep meaning to type something up for the Dynasties forum, but it's so hard not to just play when I have the game open.

Historical MLB League - 1989 Season.
Managing the Kansas City Royals. Our opening day game (today) is at old Comiskey Park against Carlton Fisk and the Chicago White Sox. |

I usually go with historical and fictional leagues, but this year I wanted to immerse myself in the current MLB. However, I'm having some minor but annoying problems with my league, so I don't know how long I'll stick with it.

fictional starting in 1871. Start with 8 teams. by 2000 there will be 37 leagues all around the world. Fun to watch it grow and expand.

Fictional league, originally 4 regions (based on the book American Nations) of 4 teams divided into East and West with no interleague between divisions. Now the divisions merged into an East and West League where attendance drives revenue in a big way, so market size is important but doesn't save you. No revenue sharing at all. Teams picked to avoid multiple NFL/NBA/NHL/previous MLB teams (MLB died in the strike) for most part, so Jacksonville/San Jose/Indianapolis/Portland are some of the biggest markets
In Year 10, 2 years ago I created a "rival" league which decided to not allow any player who joins its league leave and refused to sign anyone part of the US Baseball (the association of the East and West leagues). Revenue in this league is based nearly completely on a national media contract and there is a pretty strict salary cap in response to fans being bored of the big teams dominating free agency every year in the big leagues. This is based in the border regions of America/Texas (El Norte in American Nations terms). The only time these teams face off is in the yearly Cup tournament, which happens after the 9-game US Baseball final between east and west champ and before the El Norte Summer-Winter season begins. Thinking about adding a Northeastern "Yankee" league after a few more years or possibly expanding the 8-team East and West leagues to 10 |

Tinkering with a 1901 or 1903 historical start, with a few independent leagues like the federal league so a lot of the players have somewhere else to play. Also experimenting with a AAA for the majors (since I hate reserve rosters) that I have to un-affiliate before the world series finishes and then re-affiliate afterwards so that the league will stay around until the real minors kick in around 1914 or 1915 or whenever.

I play a world with all modern leagues and stats, but fictional players. I can't do real players cause I get frustrated when they don't play like their real life selves.

Fictional/historical, although I think I'm also going to retry my GRAND League of Nations idea wherein I start in 1871 and make team transaction/special events based on real world history. It's super dumb and super nerdy, and I've always found myself wanting to put too much work up front into it, but I think I'm just going to soldier on through it this time around.

i play mlb a bit, initially. once the game is more complete i do my long-term fictional league.
mlb teams and mil names, maybe a bit shifted around and evened out in #'s per team. i change to 3 divisions of 10 teams each playing a balanced schedule but no interdivisional matchups during regular 162 game season (9*18=162, 9h/9a) they play each other enough that hte better team almost assuredly has the better record in those divisions. 7 qualify, 1 bye. 3 dividions winners and 4 WC at large. no 82-80 team is going to have a chance, that's for sure. an egregious error of the current system in real life to allow mediocre teams a shot in the playoffs -- if it can happen, it will happen, and it's your fault for setting it up that way and ignoring facts, lol... like allowing a non-majority candidate win in a supposed democratic election.. if ignored it is purposefully done in such a way whether ignorant of it or not... it's not as bad as the NHL at least.
