MLB Season 2024

Take me out to the ballgame.
Take me out to the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks,
I don't care if I ever get back
for it's root, root, root for the Mariners.
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes you're out
at the old ball game!

Doesn't really roll off the tongue with the three syllables at the end of line 5 there. I'm afraid Angel Hernandez will have to eject you.

An AL East team hasn't won the world series in 5 years which is the longest drought since 1970-1976.

No kidding, five years without an AL East champ winning it all?! That division always seems so competitive every year.

Two years, $62M total. Snell is a nice pitcher, but that sure is a lot of money for 160 innings per year....about 200k per inning.

Am I the only one who has a problem w/Special Assistant to the Commissioner Joe Torre making a surprise pitching change for the Yanks? In uniform, no less?

In Spring training, I really do not care what they do.
They could let a group of first graders from PS 121 into the dugout to manage the game.

The games are meaningless ways to try and get guys up to speed in time for opening day and also try and cut your roster down.

If this happened in a game that counted in the standings, it would be an issue.

I think the games being meaningless has nothing to do with it. I don't want a person in position over the entire league being associated w/any one team in the league. If they have an old timer's game or team reunion is one thing. But other than that, he needs to forget he was a Yankee.

Just saw the Dodgers roster costs 6xs what the A's does.

Had I not been a regular visitor of MLB.com I would have never known the Dodgers and Padres opened the regular season in South Korea last night.

Not good. Why does Manfred hate baseball?

It was talked about on more or less every spring training broadcast I watched for a week, all of which were from the Grapefruit League and far away from any Cali team. I don't know what other site would bother with it though. ESPN? Surely not during March's University Shenanigans Tournament.

I don't think it is Manfred's fault. It's the NFL centered ESPN that Monday was more interested in the Steelers acquiring a backup QB than the MLB Opening Day, Selection Sunday, the tons of conference tournaments & NBA/NHL playoff races. These leagues keep dancing for Disney $ instead of making business decisions that will promote the game. Manfred can only do what he is told by the owners: Sell TV rights to the highest bidder. He has no control over how the networks promote their assets.

The start times for the Korean games are 6:05 am ET. Not exactly a convenient air time.

(There's also the special roster rules which apply to the ML teams participating in the overseas openers.)

Ohtani's interpreter fired. I don't live by the ocean, but something smells fishy.

OH CRAP. We have a Pete Rose situation here, with this interpreter trying to take the fall for it.

How did the interpreter get 4.5 million dollars to gamble without Ohtani's blessing? Ohtani is either complicit, or an idiot.

If you read the article, this bookie allowed people to bet on credit.

But that is a lot of credit. Doesn't necessarily mean the claim from Shohei's camp isn't truthful. But that sounds mighty generous to me for someone running an illegal operation. The bookie could have been using the interpreter as a means to get to Shohei & that would explain his "generous" heart. Still.....................
