GM and Manager at odds
A thread from the other day got me thinking. I wonder what the effect of employing a much different team strategy than that of the field manager's? Is there a benefit to "being on the same page"?, and is it also beneficial to have players that reflect the type of strategies being used? Should manager's have opinions on they types of players they would like to see a GM bring to the club?

If there was a prolonged difference of opinion one or the other would be gone. In most cases the field manager would go first but a GM who couldn't hire people who shared his vision would not last very long.
This issue was a major and completely unrealistic part of Football Manager. No organization could function where every decision was met with rote disagreement up and down the line. IRL people would be fired for cause as it is not unusual to include a team philosophy agreement in contacts as a job description.

But how does having such different (diverse) philosophies work in OOTP currently? Theoretically you can have a team strategy that is completely different than that of the Field Manager.
This no longer seems to be the case in Football Manager. I believe the 2013 version to be very polished and free of many of those old issues. Back room staff meetings no longer have staff disagreeing constantly. Each personnel person does have his own philosophies, but SI seems to have rid of the constant disagreements. |
