differnt pitches

Does the different pitches in the pitchers repetoire actually effect batters?

ie if i pitcher has 100 fastball, what type of batter is most effective as the counter move?

if EYE and Avoid K's is a factor then would there be a difference if it is the pitch is 100 fastball or 100 sinker or 100 changeup

Good question - I haven’t reviewed the docs but I was wondering that too.

My gut feeling is that none of the pitch types matter except in their affect on the Stuff rating. With the possible exception of a Knuckleball, but maybe not even that. Would love to be proven wrong though.

You know how you can change a player's position? You can do that with starters, to set them to relievers, by selecting the player, then selecting the menu in the upper right corner -> set position -> Relief Pitcher. When you do that, their Stuff rating changes (typically it goes up). I've noticed that when a starter has one or more "blue" pitches, their rating goes up way more than if they have an assortment of green or yellow pitches.

And I feel like there MUST be some sort of internal thing we don't know about that relies on pitches. Otherwise what's the point of having the individual pitches rated? But I'm an optimist!

I believe they throw their different pitches. They have database stuff on how often they throw each pitch and how effective it is and I believe that's simulated but yes I'd love to be proven wrong as well. What I really mean is it's possible that that is simulated. One thing about having 3+ pitches, 4+ really vs. 2 or 3 or less is it can keep the hitter off-balance at the plate.

It depends..how much depth they go into this. But they have them listed on basic pitch ratings so I assume if that's just basic ratings that it is simulated maybe...?

Not sure if anyone (other than devs) know exactly what effect pitches have, but the formulas floating around that rate how a pitcher will perform do not include pitches but rather just the three ratings (STU, MOV, CON). It's also been proven that the hold rating has an impact, as could be guessed, on the running game, but IMO the impact was larger than I expected. Worth keeping an eye on hold if the players are rated similar using the 3 ratings.
