Today is Opening Day.

The Mariners begin their inaugural season with a nine-game home stand that starts with a five-game series against the California Angels.

The media is hyping the upcoming debut of Mariners 2B Julio Cruz.

In the bottom of the first, Jones brought home the first run in Mariners history with a two-out double.

In the top of the third, Bonds belted a two-out two-run home run 381 feet to give the Angels the lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Stinson drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring home the tying run. The Mariners then took the lead when Braun scored from third on Stein's grounder to short. Meyer followed with a two-out run-scoring infield single.

After three: Seattle 4 California 2.

In the top of the fourth, Solaita belted a lead off home run 417 feet.

After six: Seattle 4 California 3.

In the top of the eighth, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners. Grich delivered a game-tying RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Dick Drago took the mound for the Angels. Collins got a run-scoring single to put the Mariners back in the lead. The Mariners went on to load the bases with two out. Carlos Lopez put the game away with a 3-RBI double. With a runner on second and two out, Don Kirkwood took the mound for the Angels and got Braun to fly out to end the inning.

The Angels got 10 hits in the game but the Mariners got the win.

Final score: Seattle 8 California 4.

In the top of the first, Bonds delivered an RBI single.

In the top of the second, Grich led off with a 360 foot bomb. Later in the inning, Torres scored from third when Remy grounded to first.

In the bottom of the first, the Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Stinson flew to right and Bonds threw Cruz out at home as he tagged up and tried to score from third.

In the bottom of the second, Stein scored from third when Collins grounded to first.

After three: Seattle 1 California 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Meyer jumped on the first pitch of the bat and hit it 381 feet for a two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, Grich got a two-out 2-RBI double to get the Angels back in the game. Stanton made a shoestring catch on a Baylor flyball to retire the side but injured his shoulder and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Carlos Lopez.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cruz scored from third when Braun grounded to second. Ruppert Jones followed with a 343 foot solo blast with two out.

In the top of the sixth, with a runner on first and one out, John Montague took the mound for the Mariners. Chalk scored from third when Humphrey grounded to first.

In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on first and one out, Mickey Scott took the mound for the Angels. The Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Cruz grounded into the 4-2 for the second out. Lopez then grounded to short to end the inning.

After six: Seattle 5 California 3.

In the top of the seventh, Ruppert Jones threw Remy out at home as he tagged up and tried to score on a Bonds flyball out.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stinson got a run-scoring single.

In the top of the ninth, with runners at the corners and nobody out, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners. Grich delivered a 347 foot 3-run longball to tie the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, with runners at first and second and nobody out, Mike Barlow took the mound for the Angels. With a runner on third and two out, Stinson beat out an infield single to bring Lopez home with the winning run.

The two teams combined for 25 hits in the contest.

Final score: Seattle 7 California 6.

The Mariners placed RF Leroy Stanton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 8.

Chicago White Sox 3B Eric Soderholm will miss 5 weeks due to a strained hamstring.

In the top of the second, Jones threw Chalk out at second as he tried to score from second on a Torres single. Chalk left the game with a back injury and was replaced by Ron D Jackson. Remy delivered a two-out RBI single to tie the game. The Angels then scored the go-ahead run on a Grich single. Bonds followed with his own run-scoring single.

In the top of the third, Solaita got himself a 381 foot solo homer with two out.

In the bottom of the third, Meyer got a run-scoring double. Reynolds followed with a run-scoring single.

After three: California 5 Seattle 4.

In the top of the fourth, Rich got an RBI double. The Angels scored another run on a Baylor two-out double.

In the top of the fifth, Lopez injured his back catching a Solaita fly ball but he remained in the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Stinson scored from third when Lopez grounded into the 5-3 fielder's choice. Cruz followed with a two-out RBI single to make it a one-run game. Collins then sailed a three-run home run 346 feet and the Mariners had regained the lead with a five-run inning.

In the top of the sixth, John Montague took the mound for the Mariners.

In the bottom of the sixth, Don Kirkwood took the mound for the Angels. Meyer knocked in a run with a single. The Mariners went on to load the bases with two out. Cruz came through with a two-run single.

After six: Seattle 12 California 7.

In the bottom of the seventh, Remy was injured fielding a Meyer grounder and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Mario Guerrero.

In the top of the eighth, following a lead off walk, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners. Guerrero knocked in a run with a double.

In the bottom of the eighth, Mike Barlow took the mound for the Angels. The Mariners loaded the bases with one out. Braun grounded into the 6-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Jones struck out to end the inning.

The two teams combined for 28 hits in the contest.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jones drove in a run with a two-out single. Stinson followed with a two-run double. With runners at first and third and two out, Mickey Scott took the mound for the Angels and got Collins to ground out to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Torres got a two-out single for the Angels first hit of the game.

After six: Seattle 5 California 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Mariners loaded the bases with nobody out. Mike Barlow took the mound for the Angels and walked Stinson on a full count pitch to bring home a run. A 2-RBI double by Meyer followed. An RBI single by Collins made the score 9-0. A sacrifice fly by Lopez made it a five-run inning.

McLaughlin went on to record the complete game shutout. The Mariners out hit the Angels 14-4.

Final score: Seattle 10 California 0.

In the bottom of the second, the Mariners scored the first run of the game on a Meyer two-bagger. Meyer went on to score from third on a Lopez sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, Lopez suffered a back injury catching a Kusick flyball but remained in the game.

In the bottom of the third, Reynolds got a two-out two-run double.

After three: Seattle 4 Minnesota 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lopez got an RBI single. Lopez went on to score from third on a Collins sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, Stein injured his left hand catching a Kusick line drive but he, too, remained in the game.

After six: Seattle 6 Minnesota 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Collins roasted a two-run homer 340 feet. With runners at the corners and one out, Gary Serum took the mound for the Twins. Stein brought a run home with a sacrifice fly.

Abbott went on to record the complete game shutout. The Mariners pounded out 13 hits in the win.

In the bottom of the first, a run-scoring double by Collins put the Mariners on the board. Braun would bring Collins home from third with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the third, a Ford double scored a run. Bostock scored Carew from third to tie the game but, on the play, Lopez threw Ford out at home as he tried to score from second.

After three: Minnesota 2 Seattle 2.

In the top of the sixth, Hisle scored the go-ahead run on a Wynegar double. Wynegar, however, would be thrown out at home by Jones when he tried to score from second on a Cubbage single.

In the bottom of the sixth, following a lead off walk, Ron Schueler took the mound for the Twins. Meyer would deliver the game-tying RBI single. Lopez picked up a two-out double that scored Meyer from second with the go-ahead run.

In the top of the eighth, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners.

In the top of the ninth, trailing by just a single run, the Twins went down in order to end the game.

In the bottom of the second, Ruppert Jones scored from third when Stein grounded into the 6-4-3.

After three: Seattle 1 Minnesota 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ruppert Jones picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Stinson followed with a 337 foot two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, a two-out run-scoring single by Bostock put the Twins on the board.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cruz hit a run-scoring single.

After six: Seattle 5 Minnesota 1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Cruz injured his leg beating out a two-out infield single and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Larry Milbourne. Milbourne would end up being thrown out at home by Ford as he tried to score from second on a Collins single.

In the top of the eighth, with a runner on first and two out, Dave Pagan took the mound for the Mariners and got Wynegar to ground out to retire the side.

In the bottom of the eighth, with a runner on first and one out, Jeff Holly took the mound for the Twins and retired the next two batters to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, a two-run triple by Carew made it a brand new ballgame. Bostock tied the game with his own two-run triple. With runners at first and third and one out, John Montague took the mound for the Mariners. Bostock scored from third when Smalley grounded to second and the Twins had taken the lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Tom Johnson took the mound for the Twins with a one-run lead to protect. Reynolds delivered a 358 foot solo home run to tie the game. With the winning run at second and two out , Collins grounded to second to send the game into extra innings.

After nine: Minnesota 6 Seattle 6.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Dave C Johnson took the mound for the Twins. The Mariners loaded the bases with one out for Milbourne and he slapped a single to right to end the game.

The Mariners collected 15 hits in the win.

The series in Seattle between the Mariners and the Minnesota Twins concludes tonight. The Mariners look to complete a four-game sweep. The expansion Mariners have won six straight and currently have the best record in all of baseball.

Chicago White Sox SP Chris Knapp will miss 12 months due to a torn UCL.

Baltimore Orioles RF Ken Singleton will miss 8 months due to a torn labrum in his shoulder.

In the top of the second, the Twins scored the game's first run on a Randall double. Borgmann followed with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the second, Jones delivered a 386 foot lead off home run. Cox added a two-out run-scoring single.

In the top of the third, Cubbage knocked in a run with a single. A Randall single scored one as well. Reynolds was hurt as Randall broke up a double play but he remained in the game.

In the top of the sixth, a two-out RBI double by Ford put the Twins up by three once again. An RBI double by Bostock followed.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jones hit his second lead off home run of the game. This one traveled 336 feet.

In the top of the seventh, Diego Segui took the mound for the Mariners.

In the bottom of the eighth, Stein scored from third when Lopez grounded into the 4-6 fielder's choice.

In the top of the ninth, the Twins loaded the bases with one out. Cubbage went down on strikes for the second out. Pinch hitter Glenn Adams grounded to short to retire the side.

In the bottom of the ninth, Dave C Johnson took the mound for the Twins with a two-run lead to protect. Reynolds scored from third on a balk to make it a one-run game. Collins tied it up with an RBI single.

After nine: Minnesota 7 Seattle 7.

In the top of the tenth, Enrique Romo took the mound for the Mariners.

In the bottom of the tenth, Ron Schueler took the mound for the Twins.

In the top of the eleventh, Bostock got his fifth hit of the game. Hisle followed by striking out for the third time in the game.
