Most Heartbreaking OOTP Moments
What are some moments of yours in OOTP that have caused you to rage/cry?
My last one was when me, playing historical with the New York Highlanders, had the pennant lead going into September. They proceeded to go 7-19 in September, losing the pennant. |

My 1980 Blue Jays, from a Dynasty started with the '77 expansion, looked like they were heading for the playoffs. They slumped enough to end the season tied with the Tigers.
One game playoff time. It wasn't even close. |

In an online league where my team had something like a 27-2 run to get into the playoffs only to lose in the first round in decisive fashion.

2016 - My Rays made it into the playoffs as the Wild Card, and were holding a 2-1 series lead, with a 5-3 lead in the 9th inning of Game 4 in the ALDS against Oakland. That's when some no-name bench player who'd had just 60-something at-bats all season jacked a walk-off, 3-run homer to send it to Game 5, which we ultimately lost.
2017 - We again made the Wild Card, but my all-star, power-hitting outfielder got injured during the Wild Card Game, and we got swept by the Royals in the ALDS. 2018 - This time we won the division, and faced off with the Royals again in the ALDS. We were down 2-1 in the series, but had a comfortable 7-2 lead in the 9th inning of Game 4. The ninth inning went as follows: a single, two walks, an error that nullified a possible double play, a grand slam. The Royals tied the game 7-7 before recording an out in the 9th. We lost that game in extras. My most heartbreaking moment? The ALDS. In general. |

I've had several. One that stands out was the WS 7th game away to Cincinnati. We came back to take a one run lead in the top of the 9th. Got 2 outs and 2 strikes in the bottom of the 9th but the batter got an infield hit and the next batter hit the next pitch out to win it. I didn't play OOTP for a week after that.

Creating a team in OOTP, that on Hardball 3? won 117 games although they still lost in the ALCS, that sucked and won 86 games and was out of contention by mid May.

My first ever draft pick and franchise poster boy deciding to slam head first into the outfield wall for a massive concussion.
Now, he overcame that and had a huge year at age 36/37 the next year, but after that injury I was numb for days. And then there was that second World Series my Portland Raccoons made their way into, an intrastate Oregon affair against the Salem Wolves, right in the year after a July firesale that brought in a wealth of young talent that has grown into the core of our current dynasty. But that series, we lost in six games, three times in extra innings in the 13th inning or later, because of ZERO offense, and game 6 was lost on an error by a most-surehanded outfielder on a lazy fly ball. My screams could be heard for miles.

It is not my moment, but I once saw one of my friends play out the game in following circumstances:
He played Mets in NLCS, went a 0-3 hole to Braves, but storming back to take next 3. In Game 7 he has lead in 9th but Parnell gave up a HR to Jose Constanza (seriously). The game went into extra and he got a lead in 13th or 14th, but Braves had bases loaded 2 outs and the batter is Paul Maholm (Braves ran out of bench and relief pitcher), and...of course Maholm hit a walk-off 2-run single. My friend deleted the game afterwards |

Because you are a Braves fan or because it sounds like typical Mets?

Up 5-0 with 1 out in the 9th, throwing a no-hitter (I'd never had one before), stud closer on the mound who is on a hot streak, facing the worst team in the game ... and I give up 10 runs and lose.

Believe it or not...
I've been in online leagues since OOTP 8. I've made it to league championships in different leagues ten times now and have never won any of them. It's probably one of the most ridiculous scenarios I've ever seen. I've even made four game sevens and lost every single one of them. I'm convinced that I'm cursed and that OOTP hates me. I wish this was a joke. I get it sounds almost impossible, but believe me, it happened and is still happening. I just lost the 1989 Heartland Series in the HBL in 7 games, putting my winless streak in the double-digits.

I lost all five starters on one team one year. The team had an excellent offense and still missed the playoffs by three games.
Scoring four runs a game is great as long as the other team isn't scoring five. Or ten.
