Question Amateur Draft

In my Tigers franchise, I just completed the Amateur Draft and had some questions regarding ratings.

Most of the picks (especially second half) I took my scouting directors recommendation. But I was a little confused going through the first part of the draft. In the 3rd Rd, my scouting director recommended a guy that was rated 21/35 (not the highest at that point by far). When I clicked on the player, and looked at the scouting report it showed different for my scouting director (21/45) & OSA (21/21), which were both different from the rating (21/35) in the main listing. Furthermore, the notes in the scouting report from my scouting director stated that he would suck and had no chance making it to the majors, meanwhile other higher rated players had a much more positive review.

My questions are, why would my scouting director recommend someone that he thought was going to suck? Why are all 3 ratings different? Which do you find to be the most accurate? Should I ignore the comments in the scouting report?

Any advice or lessons learned are much appreciated. Also note I do have scouting inaccuracy set to Normal.

Well, the ratings are different since they're from different sources. It's meant to add some 'fog of war' to the process if you will!

As to why the scouting director would recommend a guy he thinks would suck, it's probably mostly because we need to do a better job of matching up the numerical ratings and the text descriptions of players, they can be a bit off at times.

It's a big job to get that totally accurate in all cases though, so it's very much a WIP.

Lukas, thanks for the reply! Couple follow up questions if I may:

I understand you have OSA rating (which is a league scouting rating?) & your scouting director rating. But which is the one displayed in the main listing of all the players, since that is unique as well?

Also, do you have any guidance as to which to follow more, your scouting directors ratings or the text descriptions?

As far as the text descriptions go, it seems too many of them read overly confident in their evaluation...

I'm not 1000% certain of this, could be wrong, but I think the main rating is more the default ai view of the player based on your evaluation settings. So almost like another OSA rating if you will.

Maybe I shouldn't say it, but I wouldn't put too much stock in the text descriptions

I think we did some work on them this year so they're better than they were, but they can be kind of wonky at times. We'd definitely like to give them a total overhaul at some point in the not too distant future.
