Poorly. 3 starts and a 9.26 ERA... and now he is injured, diagnosis pending.

April 23rd, 2013

Both starters allowed a single homerun, but while Edwin Encarnacion's hit was a solo job, Matt Weiters had a man on base.

Orioles win 2-1.

WP - Darren O'Day (1-0)
Save - Jim Johnson (6)
LP - J.A. Happ (1-3)

Record - 11-10

Here is the deal on the trade: I needed to make room on the 25-man and Rajai Davis was the guy to go. His speed is nice and I used him in the OF when with an ailing Bautista but he was the most expendable. Bonifacio can also play CF and DeRosa can also play the corners. Plus, when Leonys Martin gets healthy, he will likely push for a roster spot.

I traded for Tyler Colvin because while he is struggling at the plate just as much as Davis, he has a couple of minor league options left while Davis doesn't. I expect Colvin will stay in AAA barring injuries (and even then, he will have to compete with the likes of Ryan Langerhans for that injury call-up).

Oh, the trade with the Reds fell through. I like Sean Marshall, but not enough to keep ratcheting up my offer while using up my budget room.

Down 5-3 with 2 out and 1 on in the top of the 9th, J.P. Arencibia sent one out to tie the game. That just delayed the result, however, as a Travis Ishikawa RBI double in the bottom of the 10th gave the Orioles the 6-5 win.

WP - Darren O'Day (2-0)
LP - Mickey Storey (0-1)

Record - 11-11

R.A. Dickey has a partially torn labrum.

He'll be out for 3-4 months.

Oh boy...

Justin Germano was called up.

TRADE

To the Washington Nationals: Andy LaRoche

To the Toronto Blue Jays: Tyler Moore

Moore was assigned to Buffalo. Ryan Langerhans was called up.

This deal was similar to the Davis deal. LaRoche had no options. Moore has some serious upside as a hitter, though his defense grades out as poor.

This was a disastrous day for Toronto. First they found out that they had lost R.A. Dickey for most of the season, then as they were losing 9-3 to the Yankees, Mark Buehrle was forced to leave the game for the second straight start with signs that it may be serious.

WP - Ivan Nova (4-0)
LP - Mark Buehrle (2-2)

Record - 11-12

Brandon Morrow was not in top form as the Yankees knocked him around a little bit. The Jays lost 5-2 this Melky-fest as Melky Cabrera got a homer for Toronto and Melky Mesa got two for New York.

WP - C.C. Sabathia (3-2)
LP - Brandon Morrow (3-2)

Record - 11-13

Mark Buehrle is suffering from shoulder inflammation and is expected to be out the next five days. Due to a coming off-day, the Jays think they can survive that without a roster move.

Justin Germano had his first start for Toronto and while he performed adequately, it was not enough as the Jays fell 4-3 to New York.

Henry Blanco continues his nice season with Toronto, hitting a two-run bomb - his 2nd homer of the year.

WP - Andy Pettitte (3-1)
Save - David Robertson (5)
LP - Justin Germano (0-1)

Record - 11-14

The long ball was in the Blue Jay corner as Colby Rasmus and Edwin Encarnacion both went deep, leading Toronto to an 8-5 victory over the Yankees.

WP - J.A. Happ (2-3)
Save - Casey Janssen (5)
LP - Phil Hughes (2-2)

Record - 12-14

Josh Johnson seems to alternate between disaster and brilliance. Today the Blue Jays got the latter as he gave up only 1 run on 8 hits into the 8th, as the Jays eventually won 6-2.

Jose Bautista, on his first day back in the lineup, went 1 for 4 with a single and a walk but made some sparkling defensive plays, including gunning a runner down at home plate.

Jose Reyes had to leave the game after hurting himself throwing the ball. We await diagnosis.

WP - Josh Johnson (2-2)
LP - Ryan Dempster (2-2)

Record - 13-14

A tight pitching duel between Brandon Morrow and Clay Buchholz went Toronto's way as they got the Boston pitcher late, and then carried it over to the bullpen.

Morrow allowed only 5 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings pitched, giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 6.

Adam Lind got his 3rd homer of the season as Toronto won 5-2.

WP - Brandon Morrow (4-2)
Save - Casey Janssen (6)
LP - Clay Buchholz (1-3)

Record - 14-14

Jose Reyes strained oblique doesn't look as bad as it could have been.

He should be ready to play when he is eligible to come off the 15-day on May 15th.

In other injury news, Mark Buehrle looks like he will be ready for his next start and Dustin McGowan, of all people, looks to be ready to face action in a bout a week.
