Once again, the Blue Jays can't even beat the Astros. A comeback made it 6-4, but even that was mostly due to errors and sloppy play by Houston.

WP - Lucas Harrell (7-11)
Save - Bobby Parnell (22)
LP - Kyle Drabek (2-3)

Record - 49-57

A.J. Griffin held the Blue Jays to 2 hits and shut them out over 8. They turned in on against Sean Doolittle in the 9th, but it was not quite enough as the A's won 3-2.

WP - A.J. Griffin (10-7)
Save - Chris Resop (3)
LP - Josh Johnson (8-8)

Record - 49-58

Oakland got to Clayton Richard for 4 runs int he first inning before things settled down. The Toronto offense has been unable to muster that sort of impact so they could never make up the deficit, galling 6-3.

WP - Brett Anderson (9-6)
Save - Sean Doolittle (25)
LP - Clayton Richard (8-9)

Record - 49-59

The Jays have now fallen back into last in the division, .5 game behind Baltimore, 11 behind Tampa for the Wild Card and 20 behind New York for the division lead.

Jair Jurrjens had his second excellent start for Toronto, and is still without a win. He gave up his first run in his 16th inning of work but Rex Brothers proved again that he might not be the right man for the closer job as he walked two and gave up a walk-off grand slam to Willie Bloomquist, giving Oakland the 6-2 win.

WP - Mike Ekstrom (5-0)
LP - Rex Brothers (2-3)

Record - 49-60

August 1st, 2013

The Jays started off the game with Jose Reyes and Brett Lawrie going deep back-to-back and were up 4-0 before the Angels even came to bat.

But you can never count out the Angel offense. Albert Pujols knotted the game at 8 with an 8th inning 3-run blast and there it stayed until Matt Joyce scored Emilio Bonifacio from 1st with a double in the 14th, giving Toronto the 9-8 win.

WP - Tanner Scheppers (3-4)
LP - Scott Downs (0-3)

Record - 50-60

Randy Wells had a nice first start for Toronto, and he left with the lead - but Aaron Crow allowed the Angels to tie it up in the 8th. In the top of the 9th, though, Jesus Montero knocked Jose Bautista in from 1st to go with his 8th inning homer. That sealed the game for the Jays, 4-3 over the Angels.

WP - Aaron Crow (4-1)
Save - Rex Brothers (8)
LP - Ernesto Frieri (2-3)

Record - 51-60

I thought R.A. Dickey would be back this week but a setback has made it 1-2 weeks.

Just caught up on this. Good work again, man. I love how you drafted Thomas Milone -- I go to the same high school (even though I am younger)

It looked like a huge comeback as a 9th inning grand slam by Edwin Encarnacion tied it at 6... but in the bottom of the 9th, Mike Trout got an RBI double to win the game for the Angels.

And if an already struggling offense needed any more bad news, Brett Lawrie was hurt during the game and we await diagnosis.

WP - Sean Burnett (4-4)
LP - Aaron Crow (4-2)

Record - 51-62

74-40

They have a 9 game lead over the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers).

I make a lot of moves but they are currently sitting with the following:

Rotation

Matt Smoral
Marcus Walden
Jesse Hernandez
Matt Fields
Casey Lawrence

Bullpen

Dayton Marze (CL)
Scott Gracey
Neil Wagner
Ramon Ortiz
Trystan Magnuson
Tony Davis
Myles Duvall

'Usual' line-up

LF - Jonathan Jones
DH - Dalton Pompey
C - Lou Marson
1B - Gabe Jacobo
CF - Kevin Pillar
2B - Jonathon Berti
SS - Kevin Nolan
RF - Nicholas Baligod
3B - Kevin Ahrens

The rest

C - Pierce Rankin
1B - Luis A. Jimenez
SS - Luis Sanchez
RF - Brad Glenn

Both Marson and Pompey have an OPS over 1.000

The pitching is not that great (the best ERA among the starters is 4.73) so it is pretty clear that the offense is carrying this team.
