Owner's already got me miffed

I have not even started my 2018 Cardinals franchise yet and my owner has already made a demand I will not/cannot reach.
He wants me to sign Adam Wainwright to an extension.
I know Waino is a long-time Cardinal favorite, but has he watched him the past two seasons.
He is beyond being on his last legs and with the Cardinals' pitching depth in the farm system he could be their eighth or ninth best starter.
I was going to give him until Memorial Day to show he's still viable and if he didn't then banish him to the bullpen or run him over with a truck to land him on the DL to finish out his $21 million contract.
And my owner's No. 2 demand is to sign him to an extension?

As long as you have the "cannot be fired" box checked, I wouldn't worry one bit about fake DeWitt's demands. Trade away the mistakes from the last few seasons, and just go out and win. That's the most important thing, and very doable in 2018. No one is going to want those contracts after this season.

I typically dont worry about owner demands when you know what you are doing is right. Winning cures everything.

I'm just starting game one of the world series and my owner is undecided. His profile says he is about extreme winning but at this point I'm pretty sure he is just nuts. Wonder if I will get fired if I lose in 5 games?

No love for Waino?

I signed him, but mainly because he's a team leader. He actually pitched quite well in 2018 for me, but had to have season ending surgery and now I'm not sure if he will make it back.

I'll probably get him into the bullpen at some point in 2019 when he comes back - I need his leadership as we have been horrible in 2019 and Molina is struggling to keep the locker room functioning.

In the real world, I don't have much faith in Waino.
I am fearful he is pitching on guts and experience as the fastball isn't there -- or doesn't hang around long with a quick velocity drop after the first inning or two -- and he can't control "Uncle Charlie" like he used too.
He looked fairly good Thursday against the Brewers, but I am not sure about the long haul especially with pitchers like Flaherty, Dakota Hudson, John Gant and maybe even Hicks, if they send him back to the minors when some of the injured MLB-experienced pitchers get back and return him to being a starter, chomping at the bit to start in the bigs.
On my OOTP 19 team, Wainwright is doing fine. He's 2-0 with a 2.78 ERA.

Yeah OOTP likes him in the first season, after that.. a major drop off. I just keep him around for his leadership skills.

I thought we would finally dethrone the Cubs in 2019 but my OOTP Cardinals are doing horrible so far 50 games into the season. Might have to fire Matheny if we don't turn it around. Heck, we have the 6th highest payroll this season.

My team is playing fairly well.
Coming off taking two of three from the Cubs at Wrigley, I am 11-8 and a half-game behind the Reds going into a three-game weekend series against Cincinnati at Busch.
Ozuna has been a monster at the plate and Weaver is a dominant 3-0 on the mound.
My bullpen is ranked second in the league.
Some of my hitters, Pham and DeJong, are bit below what I expected but I am hopeful they will turn it around.
A mid-season trade for a second middle of the order hitter, and I just might be able to make the Cubs, who are without Kris Bryant and have just lost Jon Lester for five months, sweat.

This is the first OOTP where I might get fired. Year 2 with the Cardinals and my team is playing terrible, the locker room is in disarray and Molina is demanding a trade. (yeah like someone is going to take your $20 mil contract along with your 0.200 batting average)

I thought I had such a great off season too, my owner gave me a big payroll bump, I signed Harper and thought my pitching was in great shape. Flaherty is out for the season and we are 12 1/2 games out of first place. Ugh...

I just give my owner the 1 finger salute by checking the "cannot be fired" box.
