CPU to Player Trade Offers

So I'm in year 12 of my franchise in my 9th OOTP game and I was thinking...."I don't think I've ever gotten a trade offer from the CPU like was decent." Is there any way to tweak this? I'm sick of getting a bunch of trade offers like a 30-year-old 2-star reliever and a 1.5 star catcher for Royce Lewis.

Has anyone EVER gotten an offer from the CPU that made you say "Oh damn, this is a good offer!"

I've had a couple that eventually led to a trade but that required a lot of tweaking but nothing that made me accept a trade as originally presented.

I actually once got an offer that got my bullpen needs, saved payroll, and improved my team and all the computer asked for was a 20/25 minor league catcher and a guy I had already DFA'd anyways. I was like, "zomg it finally happened! A decent trade offer!".

To make it go a step further I even decided something didn't feel right about it, so I decided to counter offer and ask them for the trade that they offer as long as they would pay 100% of the guys salary and they did!

Sure, just yesterday in fact (in my fictional save) I received an offer that was very tempting. Even my assistant G.M. was mostly on board as it stood.
Now, I decided to pass as I am happy with my team composition right now, but I had to really think about it for awhile.

Granted, most initial offers are not going to be tempting at all. And for my money, that is at it should be. Any GM worth his salt is going to be looking to take advantage of the situation and the AI GM's should be no different. As has been said many, many times here, these are just opening offers. They are the starting point of negotiations, rarely the ending point.

Do I reject most of them out of hand without negotiation? Sure. But I also find at least a small handful of offers worth discussing each year of my save. And I have, now and then, even accepted an offer almost exactly as is, with minimal tweaking and negotiation. (I think at least once I just accepted an offer with no bargaining at all.)

I suppose it comes down to what you consider a decent offer too. I figure a good deal is when neither side is completely happy. Time is also a factor. What doesn't seem good now might seem very good later. I have a very good head scout and as a consequence I have often received moderate prospects who the other team was clearly less optimistic about then my scout, and several of them have gone on to be quite valuable members of my team. It's all in your perspective and sometimes you have to step back a bit and take a longer view.

I've gotten a few over the years that I had to consider and very few that were good and I accepted.

This is something that I would like to see worked on in the future by the devs

I've accepted two outright and negotiated a better deal a few more times.

I had a decent proposal for a average veteran reliever in exchange for a younger player I could afford to part with. It looked good but I asked them to retain 50% of the relievers salary and it was still accepted.

I feel as though the system to blame for this would be what the team is trying to do. We have labels such as rebuilding, dynasty and more. I wish it would let us edit them when we control a team. (If it does I had no idea)

When I take over some team I completely tank but still get offered trades for my prospects. If I could manually put my team in rebuilding status then it would alter the trades I get.

I know when I am a contender I look to trade with "Rebuilding" status teams to get their older players to help my team.

I've gotten a few over the years I accepted, but I'd say 90% of them are completely awful offers. Still, I probably make some awful ones myself so I don't get angry at the computer.

I notice the computer thinks you're weak at a certain position it'll constantly make you offers there, even if you don't think you're particularly weak (e.g., when you promote a 22-year-old 40/60 prospect, the computer only sees "below average").

You're going to get bad offers for sure, as you would in real life; but you can salvage some of these by making counteroffers. I never take the deal straight up: I discuss first, add players to the deal, take players off. The "Make this trade work now" button is your friend.

In short, you don't have to take the trades as is. You can tailor them to your needs. I would say I probably do a 15 or 20 trades a year, and a fair number of them start with offers from the AI.
