Convince me...

Last OOTP I bought was 8 after the split from SI. Not played it much, but I like to support the game so...

I'm on the fence regarding OOTP 10. Convince me why I should get it. This is serious BTW. I read the big list of new features but there may be other little touches so I'm hoping folk can convince me to lay down the $40. (That's Canadian so even with the discount...)

You will probably have to wait till it's released and then check the boards to see how much of it really works.

Well I ain't paying $50 for it which is what it'll be with the exchange rate.

Was hoping some beta guys, or people who know about other touches to the game can convince me.

yea, i'd like to know too. I bought ootp9 last year when the canadian dollar was soaring, but now, well we all know where the C$ is. So saving that extra 10 bucks would help. By looking at the new feature list i am extreamily unimpressed, so i'm standing on the 'not purchase' side of the fence, but still peeking over (like wilson from Home Improvement)

Yes, the US economy is collapsing, and yet their dollar is doing really well. Makes no bloody sense.

Given the exchange rate, it's ludicrous that OOTP will cost pretty much $50 Canadian. I paid less than that for Left 4 Dead, Spore etc...

So it's either buy with the discount or not at all.

While there's some interesting stuff in the main features I just wondered if there's other little things. I mean I've not really used OOTP 8. Mainly bought it out of solidarity seeing OOTP and SI part ways.

So I shall wait and see if anyone can convince me to part with my cash.

The scouting overhaul in v9 plus the pitching system overhaul, arbitration, FA compensation, and draft changes would be more than enough to make the upgrade from v8 worthwhile, if I were in your shoes.

Hopefully the AI is improved in handling game situations and roster management, but that's something I'd need to see to gauge.

If you really want detailed responses, I think you need to give some details about how you like to play. For anyone who prefers building and developing their team, v10 looks amazing. If you prefer historical replays, it probably doesn't look nearly as good.

The proof is in the pudding, and Bill Cosby is not ready to talk about it.

I am pretty sure that is what the Aztecs said to me before they removed my civ from the face of the planet.

I have seen very little from the beta guys this year. Either OOTP has told them to stay quiet, or they choose to not be very vocal. I have seen mixed responses from OOTP in the past on how much the beta team is allowed to discuss.

The beta team is not allowed to say anything about the game, unless pre-approved.

Convince yourself. Or don't. It's your job, not ours.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Same reason that gold is going through the roof; perceived value? Only reason that I can see at least.

As for buying it, meh I am after looking at the feature set, but that's just me. If I was a good salesmen...well I'd have a lot less time to do this forum.

I never understand the whole "Convince me" thread that always pops up. Maybe from someone who has never played OOTP before, but still. In the era of demos, it is a lazy man's M.O.

I would suggest reading the feature list, pre-order now if you don't want to pay full price, or you could download the demo once it is available to see for yourself, or you can hold off and wait for the inevitable price drop after baseball season ends.

There are plenty of options here for people to make their own decisions.

To me, it just sounds like he's trying to bait someone on the beta to post details about the game, or, at the very least to get Steve or Markus to jump in with some details.

They aren't going to say anything until they're ready.

Great responses! This board has certainly improved over the years.
