League Scoring
After 4-5 seasons I see that the league scoring is in a very tight range no matter what type of team I build. The league average is roughly 5.5 goals per game, pp goals around 1.17 per game, ect ect. Is this something essentially hard coded into the game?
Where if I play 50 seasons its going to be in these ranges? Can we get back to 80's with Isles and Edm of 7.5 to 8.0 goals per game? It just feels like no matter what type of talent I have, I am capped at roughly 4 goals per game average. has anyone had some legit seasons in PtG of 5-6-7 goals per game average because you built a monster team? I can barely get players to 100 points as well. |

Interesting question. In my experience, the game essentially cannot develop promising goalies, so once all the good goalies age out of the NHL ~2030 or so then scoring should skyrocket.

I would hope there are these cycles built in randomly....where maybe there are no good goalies so scoring is up and vice versa. So far I am noticing 2.5-3.5 goalies across the league putting up great numbers. Which is disappointing because it makes me think the game is locked in at these scoring numbers forever. Which would mean we can never have a Wayne or Mario come in and dominate.

If you play a sandbox game and select Commissioner Mode, you have an option in the league editing screen to change the average goals per game for the league. Since you can't do Commissioner Mode in PtG, it stays at the same amount.
That said, the lack of elite-potential goalies coming through the draft is something I hope they fix. I'm almost a decade into my PtG game and I've only seen 2 goalies with 4.5/5 star potential when they were drafted and it seems unlikely that their potentials will stay that high. |

I tested a game up until 2049, and there is a major lack of goaltending talent in the NHL. Hardly any goalies drafted are rated higher than 2.5 star potential. If there is an issue, I'm confident they will correct it.

But has that lack of elite goalies translated to more goals?
If you are playing PtG mode what are your goals per game for the time you have played? Seems to me that having a 5 star goalie does not even matter....and acquiring 5 star players becomes pointless after you have reached a certain threshold. |
